@dumplingkid
can anyone tell me the watch order for every movie ever so i can understand all references and homages
@dionrevel PLEASE share the link.
Lol sure!!
For movies, here is the beginner's list:
Beginner's guide for getting in the loop.
And the more advanced list:
Advanced guide to getting in the loop. Supplementary to "Civilization Essentials." If a movie is on this list, then it has one of these: -Po
Not all these movies are necessarily good, but the ones that gave me small pop culture epiphanies. It made me realize that 30%-40% of the jokes from modern sitcoms are references/parodies- and these movies are their source material.
^^ This is also true for socializing. So many people I thought were naturally funny were just doing movie bits.
[I actually do have a job, I am just a big fan of lists and graphs and flow charts etc.]
Oh I adore this. As someone who missed a bunch of stuff by way of chaos and poverty. This is a nice tool.
Maybe lean out
would you look at that, fandom.com has started adding completely content-blocking popups to their page that totally prevent you from using the site unless you turn ad block off.
it sure would be a shame if people went to their URL bar and typed "anti" in front of "fandom.com" in order to go to the antifandom.com mirror of the page they were trying to reach, which shows all the same content but without any ads,
If antifandom dot com isn't working for whatever reason, you can also use breezewiki.com
Hate it when you have An Appointment in a few days and you're like well now I have no time to do anything at all because there is An Appointment in my future
One of the most heartwarming things I’ve ever heard a dog trainer say “A pushy pet who makes small demands and communicates their needs to you is a safe pet. It means they trust you and aren’t afraid of your reaction if they misbehave and push your buttons a little”
and honestly it's just fucking insane that every time we try to talk about harm to children in particular we have to talk circles around the fact that these things are very, very overwhelmingly done by parents/family members/teachers/religious leaders/known and trusted adults in a position of power over a child, to the extent that many people's suggested solution to child abuse is "give the people most likely to abuse a child EVEN MORE strangling legal and material power over the kid"
you're not supposed to actually address who is abusing children and what can be done to give those children recourse and the ability to leave abusive situations because nobody actually gives a shit about child abuse beyond the familial property rights violation it represents to them and the cudgel against minorities which it can be turned into
You see something broadly similar in nursing where you have to tip toe round the fact that nurses can directly and intentionally harm patients; one of the most common phrases you'll hear when trying to address an issue is something like "well no nurse is coming to work deliberately wanting to hurt their patients". I don't say this to derail from the issue of protecting children from their parents/guardians, i say it because i think it highlights the consistent problems that not offending the sensibilities of people in positions of power over vulnerable people is seen as more important then actually protecting those vulnerable people. "How dare you suggest I'm a bad parent, I'm not going to listen to anything you say because clearly you just hate me, and my feelings are clearly the real issue now" type mindset that means you end you talking circles around issues trying not offend anyone instead of directly addressing what is wrong
I told my little nephew that I'd wave at his airplane when it flew over my house today, and he very calmly and politely explained that it wouldn't be possible to see me due to the limitations of human vision. I said he just had to squint real hard, and he took a deep breath and went into the toddler version of "see, what you're not understanding–"
There is not even time for a quick jerk off
dont take bird noises for granted
next time ur outside and you hear birds just think about how awesome that is and how much it would suck if they were gone

I wish it were more common to have "bilingual" stories. By that i mean stories where it's important that 2 or more languages are spoken throughout. There isn't any translation, there's just multiple languages spoken by the characters. I understand why this is seldom done considering how heavily limiting it is to the number of people who can actually read or watch it. But idk I think the world would be better off with some stories like that.
Many of us live bilingual lives. What those lamguages are, what they mean to us, the historical and political state of those languages, are very very important! So at some point I think it would be nice to write something that is simultaneously English and spanish, and there would be a pretty sizable number of people who could read that.
A story like this would probably be impossible to translate into a third language though, for obvious reasons. Which i feel conflicted about, because I on one hand believe that all art should be in all languages and have as many accessibility options as possible. But I also think this specific type of story *needs* to be in those languages and removing one or swapping them would miss much of the point. Hrmmm...
Translate it into a third AND fourth language
Actually reading something like this even as a monolingual person would be very cool because you would have to figure things out yourself. And you would pick up some of the language possibly.
I love rebloging. It’s the adult equivalent of showing everyone the cool rock I just found.
We live in a system that makes money off of your misery and ambivalence. It relies on people thinking that they are inherently bad for the planet and that the world is ending so why change? Why try? --This is untrue! We belong here, on this one beautiful green earth and we have to work together to protect it. You have the power to do more than you know. You have a role to play in your ecosystem!
“you support gay rights so you must be gay”

Follow the money behind America's data center boom. Track 2,300+ projects, PAC spending, and the politicians who sign off on it.
Reasons for hope: Lots of amazing people did a ton of work to make this fantastic, fully interactive resource available - because no matter how bleak things seem, there are millions, and millions of people doing everything they can to protect both the world and their own communities.
You can use this to view and subscribe to updates, project statuses, and for at least some of them even whole dossiers. This is an amazing resource, I highly recommend checking it out
IDK about other places, but a ton of cities in Kentucky have preemptively banned data centers from being built
This is really the one issue that unites people on all sides of the political spectrum.
