The Three Garridebs
“The clear, hard eyes were dimmed for a moment, and the firm lips were shaking. For the one and only time I caught a glimpse of a great heart as well as of a great brain. All my years of humble but single-minded service culminated in that moment of revelation.”

Fall in love with Moriarty the patriot, so I had to draw the characters. For now just William, but the goal is to draw most of them 😔🫵💞
Was also a great excuse to draw men again 💅
Very apropos of the fabulous Chairs Against Milverton Day, a cartoon I did last year for The Watsonian!
How Watson Learned the Trick
“I was thinking how superficial are these tricks of yours, and how wonderful it is that the public should continue to show interest in them.”
With about five hundred words, this literal bite-size breakfast scene is the shortest of all Holmes tales. Originally bound into a miniature book for Queen Mary's Dolls' House, it was more broadly republished than the earlier “The Field Bazaar” and tends to be the best known of the two stories, which are usually treated as parodies.
The fact that Holmes (a man who had never been interested in team sports) would suddenly care about cricket results and allow himself to forgo shaving (with the sole excuse that he owns only one razor which he has sent away for sharpening) makes his airy dismissal of Watson’s deductions quite suspicious. It’s also the first we hear of Barlow, his dentist, surely a man with a role to play when Holmes got his left canine knocked out in a fight.

I couldn’t find any Watson gifs and it was pissing me off cuz I need them for something so I just said screw it and did it myself. Making more soon, only made these first for my edit.
Hirano is definitely a character I relate to, and though it doesn't say outright in text that he is aroace, he is just so aroace coded and I love it.
The Sussex Vampire
When publishing in the mid-1920s, Watson would have had a good idea of the growing appeal of the vampire figure to the popular imagination, but no amount of fiddling around with chronology could enable us to place the events of this adventure before the writing of Bram Stoker's Dracula. At the time of Holmes' and Watson's visit to Sussex, the famous vampire story was Sheridan Le Fanu's Carmilla.
Serialised in the early 1870s, the novella tells the professedly real story of the young Laura, and her sexually-charged relationship with the mysterious Carmilla. Holmes' own vampire case, though eventually not supernatural, also relies on preconceived notions and fears of ‘unpredictable’ foreign women. Carmilla was partly illustrated by D. H. Friston, who would be responsible for the very first portraits of Holmes and Watson a few years later.

Deep thoughts
Albert's Moments That I Found Very Attractive.
There’s something about long-haired post-nyc Sherlock that makes me go feral. Yeah, obviously, there’s something. Young Sherlock with a ponytail and nothing but coins for apples? Horrible. Disgusting. Immature. How could he. Surely do not relate to his destructive indulgence of interests, non-conformity and dramatic performance and surely do not hate him because I relate to his young self, no, no (huge /j). Old Sherlock? Tired eyes? Liam’s spirit following his every second sentence not as a ghost of Lord of Crime but as a ghost of someone he loves and cannot have? With a suit? Hating the rich even more than before? Playing to Liam’s tune again knowingly? Swallowing all of his desires and letting them out in circles of smoke for the sake of the man who forgave his crime? Lovely. Delectable. I need more.
(All the hate for young Sherlock is with a big /j and was created for dramatic purposes because aritealeaf is not far away from theatrical sinking in the chair after his brother told him not to love women)
this might piss some people off but I don’t think some of you actually ever tried to unlearn your hatefulness. you just came out as queer and decided your new targets really truly deserve it this time.
you. you get it.
everyone tagging this as “racism in the queer community” you’re 100% right
