“Serpensortia”.Okay so I am not sure if this has been done before but I woke up in a cold sweat because I had to make this post xD
I don’t really use pop magic or anything but this seemed like a good idea. Here are a couple of the spells from Harry Potter that could potentially be incorporated into your craft!
We’ve all seen the hashtag #wakingwitchblr or the term itself at one point. Still, I found that there’s a lack of info on what you can actually do to make witchblr more active.
So I took it upon myself to create a list of things that anyone can do to revive our amazing community! Enjoy !
1) Don’t Like, Reblog instead 📣
There’s nothing inherently wrong with liking a post, it’s just that due to how Tumblr works, liking a post does virtually nothing. Reblogging, however, lets that post be seen by more and more people. The surefire way to revive witchblr is by reblogging as many witchy posts as you can.
But what if some posts just doesn’t fit into your blog’s theme, even though you want to support it? Well, you have a couple options:
Reblog anyway. Diversifying your posts actually makes your blog more interesting. You can always tag it as ‘off-topic’ if the different theme bothers you that much.
Create a reblog/spam account! I have one and it is so simple. The post may not gain as much traction compared to if you RB-ed in your main blog, but trust me when I say a single reblog goes a long way.
Share it on other social media. See that arrow-like button down there? Click it and you can share the post anywhere. Send it to your witchy discord servers or your insta groupchat !
2) Get off the ‘Top’ page. Go to ‘Recent’ 💌
AKA reblog from lesser-known bloggers.
Not only will you support fellow witches creating content, this also give you a chance to talk to them and find your place within Witchblr! Which brings me to my next point…
3) Interact with The Community 💬
If I’m a witch who wants to move away from Tumblr, there will be only one thing that can stop me, and that’s the friends and connections that I’ve made here.
Join online covens and discord servers, ask your witchstagram and witchtok friends for their tumblr url, and just have fun together.
Interacting with other witches, making friends, even just giving compliments or advices. This is what makes us a community. It’s what makes us stay here. If we don’t interact with each other, than we’re just a bunch of people who likes the same thing without any connection. That’s not witchblr.
4) Diversify Your Tags 🎪
There is a kind of… exclusivity, when you look through the hashtags of witchy posts. Witches only ever tag with “witchblr”, “witchcraft”, and “magick”.
This creates an accurate, non-spammy post, but it is also a post that will only show up on other witches’ dashboard and no one else’s. The community will never grow in this way because there will be no new people finding the community. It’s just an echo chamber.
Instead, diversify your tags. I’m not telling you to tag your ritual oil with ‘cars for sale’, but if you made a travel altar yourself, there’s nothing wrong in tagging it #crafting, #diy, #handmade, etc.
Non-witches will then find the post and potentially become interested in the community, thus making it grow.
5) Make Original Content 🔮
Original content is the backbone of any community, and witchblr is dying because we’re not producing any. So if you want to revive witchblr, make content of your own.
No, it doesn’t have to be well thought-out. Heck, it doesn’t even have to be good. Original content can be anything! It can be you posting about a witchy thing that happened. It can be your drawing, or a picture you took. It could even be memes???
Or it could be a ‘how to wake witchblr’ post that you wrote because you have a script due 3 weeks ago and somehow this is your idea of procrastination
The point is: just click that ‘Make a Post’ button, and make a freaking post !
6) Share This, and Add Your Own Tips! 🖤
Now that you know these, it’s time to let other people know too ! I put a lot of thoughts into this post, but I have to admit that these tips will only work if everyone in the community is doing it.
If you have other tips or ways to make Witchblr more active, feel free to reblog with your own addition too.
I love this community, and if you’re reading this post I’m sure you do as well. It’s not gonna happen overnight, but I know that we can be as active as we used to be. We’ve got the heart, we just need the action.
This is your friendly reminder that herbs aren't inherently safe.
Natural doesn't mean Safe.
Lightning is natural. Opium, therefore heroin and opiate drugs are derived from poppies. Cinnamon oil will burn your skin. Lilies are toxic to cats and will cause organ failure. Activated charcoal will neutralize your prescription medications and literally anything else in your system. St. John's Wort will destroy your serotonin production and mess with your happiness threshold if it DOESNT KILL YOU FIRST.
So anyway.
Do some damn good research every time you go to eat, breathe, bring around your pets, bathe in, or smoke something. Be safe please.
Things I Wish I Had Known When I Started Practicing
Chakras are part of closed practices. Find a different theory on energy centres and how they work. I have my own here but there are many more that exist.
Do your research. Question everything. Don’t follow Tumblr posts blindly. Do your research, make sure that research is credible. Some authors out there are shitty (Edred Thorsson for example). Some Etsy shop owners appropriate. Do your research.
Support minority businesses! Support local businesses!
The best basic herbs to have on hand are: sage, rosemary, cinnamon, thyme, lavender, sea salt.
For the love of the gods, please ward. The first time you ward, you will most likely sleep upwards of 10+ hours because it is draining as hell but WARD. Wards will keep you safe from entities that seek to harm you.
ALWAYS have a good banishing spell and a good return to sender spell on hand if you need it. Here is Part 1 of a good masterpost on protections and warding.
Always be a skeptic. Don’t just believe things blindly. Is a god telling you they’re an actual god? Question them. Do your research on that god. Always question.
DO NOT INGEST ESSENTIAL OILS. They’re meant to be applied topically with a carrier oil. Don’t ingest them.
Some herbs will interact with your medication if you’re on them. If you’re on medication and want to try herbal remedies, talk to your doctor to make sure that your herbal remedy won’t negatively interact with your medication.
Tarot cards don’t need to be gifted or stolen in order to work. That’s a myth. However, if you feel like you’d like your tarot decks to be gifted to you, do that. Whatever you’re comfortable with.
Your first tarot deck doesn’t have to be explicitly Raider Waite Smith. My first deck was a variation on the traditional RWS style and it allowed me to read tarot more intuitively.
There’s no shame in using a tarot guidebook. There’s 78 cards that’s a LOT to memorize. I haven’t memorized them all and I’ve been reading tarot for two years now. Take your time and don’t be embarrassed to read tarot from a guidebook. I do paid tarot readings and still use my guidebooks.
If you’re worried about wasting food as an offering, it’s okay to eat them. I do it. Many others do it. If you’re still wary about eating the food, if you have plant friends, you can just bury the offerings (especially relevant for chthonic worshippers).
The Theoi website is one of the best for information on Hellenism. Every thing written on that website is cited back to an Ancient Greek text, or even several.
PLEASE PRACTICE FIRE SAFETY. If you’re burning an object in a metal bowl, don’t touch the bowl afterwards. You may burn yourself. Have something to put out a fire on hand should something happen. Don’t burn hair. Crack a window so you don’t inhale smoke. Be safe with fire.
Personalize your spells! If you find a spell on tumblr that you wanna try but don’t have an ingredient, go with your instinct and research what it could be replaced with! Tumblr spells are guidelines and you can modify that shit to your heart’s content.
I do not think chakras are part of closed practices. Correct me if I am wrong, though. It is just that the modern concept of chakras is founded on traditional Buddhist practices and beliefs, which most Buddhists highly encourage people who are seeking such a lifestyle and adapting it as their own (not in a way that shoves their beliefs down someone’s throats, mind you). Most Buddhists encourage the understanding of chakras as to improve one’s life and heal them, and they do not discourage anyone from using them. This encouragement extends outside of the racial and ethnic groups that practice it.
Even dating further than this is Hinduism, where the concepts were originally founded- specifically in the Vedic traditions that Hinduism derives from. Hinduism and Vedic traditions used chakras as a form of sacred meditation (there are multiple versions of sacred meditation, one in which is yoga) to help one better understand themselves and align them with the universe. Like Buddhists, they never discouraged the use of this among any group of people- inside or outside of Hinduism. In fact, most Hindus believe that the Buddhist adaptation is like an extension to this spiritually (as Hindus often view Buddha as the most modern reincarnation of the God Vishnu). They, like Buddhists, encourage everyone who is interested to explore the chakras to better understand themselves and align themselves to the universe. Even Yogis encourage tourists who visit them from all across the world this very thing, and they are essentially the top persons of Hinduism.
That is not to say that some people are not offended though, but as a whole, most of them encourage it as they consider their spirituality to be welcoming and opening- which is the pinnacle of both Hinduism and Buddhism- the understanding of one’s self and the acceptance of others. This is coming from a student earning a Theological Anthropology degree, who was raised by a Buddhist, and dated a Hindu. Though, I do have textual back-up too to the fact it is not a closed practice (I listed these below).
That is not to say you should practice chakras and so forth. It is okay if you do not want to because you feel it might be offensive. You do you. After all, one’s crafted IS meant to be personalized to them and their feelings/emotions/opinions on the matter. So if you feel you might offend the cultures and religions who practice these, then do not do it yourself if it makes you feel better :) Though, just know it is not closed- that is for anyone who is interested in practicing them or are already practicing them.

What Do I Use For My Grimoire?
You can use anything for a grimoire! For a physical one, journals, binders, and notebooks are good. For digital ones, Notion, Tumblr, Docs, and even just your file folder are great.
Hi, friends! I'm back with another witchy FAQ from the past couple weeks. This time from the world of tech magic!
Here are some quick TL;DR technomancy tips for those who may not want to read the long FAQs post beneath the cut:
1. Chest spells (like a jar spell but with a chest filled with in game items that match the intent)
2. Poppet spells using the game characters by giving them items or altering their names/appearances
3. Similar to a chest spell but not necessarily magic per se - using chests or sheds with in-game items as altars and/or offerings
4. Build a shrine / altar / temple with offerings, or leave an item such as a torch in the game world as an offering
5. Burn/bury/destroy ingredients to activate a spell with the desired effect
6. Write an affirmation or a spell on a sign or other in-game item and destroy it to activate as a sigil
7. Build a golem or animal pen or something as a servitor for protection
8. Use some form of sympathetic magic connecting in-game items to IRL items
9. Light sticks, flashlights, plastic lightsabers, and toy sonic screwdrivers make *awesome* wands, especially if they light up and make noise.
10. The possibilities are limited to your imagination!!
(I am choosing Wittgenstein from The Brave Little Toaster movies as my mascot for tech magic, simply because I like him and because I can. Image credit - Fandom Wiki.)
What is technomancy?: Technomancy, techno magic, and tech magic are all terms for a form of magic that utilizes common modern technology, such as smartphones and video games. Technically, “technomancy” could refer specifically to divination with technology; however, in my experience, the term usually has a broader meaning in common usage. I personally tend to use these terms interchangeably, with perhaps a slight preference for technomancy, since I learned that name first.
What are some forms of technomancy?: Common forms of technomancy include digital sigils, emoji spells, shufflemancy, video game spells, and video game altars.
How do I create a digital sigil?: The ways are about as unlimited as creating a physical sigil on paper. You can use a drawing app on a smartphone or tablet, find a digital sigil generator online, use a photo editor on a picture, or even add a string of charged letters to an email signature (just make sure they blend in!).
OK, and what's the deal with emoji spells?: Yes, this is an actual thing (though not a thing that I'm particularly experienced with). They're pretty straightforward. They can be done like a sigil - string emojis together and charge them. Or like an actual spell - put them together and send to cast, or like to charge and send/reblog to cast.
What kind of games can you use for technomancy?: Any of them. Minecraft is a very popular one. So is Stardew Valley. Skyrim and other RPGs are other common choices. As with other forms of magic, the only real limit is your imagination.
What kind of spells can you cast in a game?:
Chest spells - like digital jar spells - are very common.
Poppet spells are another common choice. In games that allow you to create a character, or in games where you can give items to an NPC, you can turn the character into a poppet of someone and give them an item to cast the spell. For example, if I wanted emotional strength, I could create a Skyrim character as a poppet for myself, and have the character drink a strength potion to cast a spell of strength for myself in the real world.
Burying or burning items in games like Minecraft can be done to cast spells that are similar to physical spells that require burning a paper, bay leaf, or other ingredient.
Enchanting! Use the enchanting function in a video game like Skyrim or Minecraft to enchant a physical object. For example, you might choose to connect a physical scarf to a shield in Skyrim, and when you enchant the in-game shield with a damage resistance effect, voila! You now have a fancy enchanted scarf to protect yourself from spiritual attacks.
Customize your avatar to your advantage! In games such as Sky: Children Of The Light, where you can accessorize your character, you can equip different items to cast a different spell on yourself. For example, you might use the Saluting Captain's staff as a cosmetic to cast a spell of protection on yourself, or you could use a particular cape as a spiritual veil.
For deity work & spirit work, consider creating a space in your game (e.g. a chest, shed, home, biome, character, etc.) dedicated to the entities you work with. For example, temples and altars in Minecraft are common. Devotional sheds and chests are popular in Stardew Valley. I’ve named some appropriate Pokemon after an entity or dedicated the critter to them. You can even place a torch or candle in the game world as an offering.
There are lots more out there, too! This list is a starting point, not a limitation. Use your imagination and swap ideas with others, too!
How exactly does all of this work?? How is it possible?!: OK, so the principle behind tech magic is that you're harnessing the energy of multiple sources.
First, the device itself (and if you're using something like a Switch, the cartridge or other physical media). Each of these items has its own materials - electricity, glass and metal, etc. And each of those materials has a magical property that you can use... Glass and metal come from the Earth and have their own correspondences, while electricity is pure energy in itself.
Second, you have the energy of symbolism, or as I like to think of it with a butchered sociology term, symbolic interactionism - i.e., the idea that we create our own reality (or our *perception* of reality) via symbols. In other words, the power of correspondences! A candle is still a candle whether it's physical or digital. Lapis lazuli has the same qualities in this world that it does in a pixelated version. And so forth. So when you use the correspondences in digital spell work, provided that you raise the energy, it can and does have real world consequences. Similar to doing magic in the astral as opposed to the physical world... you are making a conscious decision to connect a digital item to an effect either in the astral and/or physical worlds.
Finally, you're also harnessing the power of belief and the energy of attention, which is where the chaos magic concepts start to come in. The digital worlds are real because you believe they are and you pour parts of your energy and personality into them - and so do *millions* of other people, in many cases. All of that energy is sort of like a reservoir in these games and it's just waiting to be harvested for spell work!
So… This is another subset of chaos magic, then.: Pretty much, yes. I haven't seen it categorized as anything else yet, except for in those cases where technomancy is given its own category.
And what did you mean by “energy of symbolism” again?: Correspondences. Both traditional ones and your own. For example, obsidian corresponds with protection IRL. So if you were making a chest spell in Minecraft for protection, you'd want to consider adding an obsidian block to your spell. Some of this is also stuff that you can brainstorm on your own and explore! Like for example, in the Elder Scrolls series, there are several plants and items that don't exist IRL, such as the corkbulb root - but in the game, that item can be used to make a potion of healing, so for me, it has a healing correspondence. Also, if the game you’re playing has spells already, you can consider how to adapt those spells to affect the real world in a logical, realistic way! Many pop culture magicians have done a great job of turning Pokemon moves into real spells, for example. So feel free to play around (pun intended) and see what works best for you!
How come you only mentioned shufflemancy once in this whole entire post??: That, my friend, needs to be a post for a later date. I assure you, I absolutely can (and probably already have, and probably eventually will) write an entire post about shufflemancy.
How come your formatting is crap?: Because I wrote all of this on a smartphone and pieced it into a post with the mobile app. Bear with me. XD
Where do I learn more and fact check you, smarty-pants?: Tumblr. The answer is usually Tumblr for this kind of thing. Or sometimes Discord. Like pop culture magic, techno magic is simply very new. Some tags to search include tech magic, techno magic, technomancy, video game magic, etc.

You guys help me keep TheoryofMagick running and bring major appreciative vibes to this happy Green Witch! :>
these arent so much spells, but more like focuses for minor energy work. i just call them spells because im not sure what else to call them.. but, anyway!
these particular thu’um spells dont require any physical components since they use your own energy. however, if you want to use physical items, it would likely be a bit stronger that way! ive seen people make thu’um spells before, but they all have physical components that i personally cant acquire, so i thought id think up some that dont require any!
to perform these spells, follow these steps:
put yourself into a meditative state in a good calm place. with practice, this can be done in normal or intense situations as well
focus hard on the effect that youre looking for in the shout. visualize it happening to you
focus on the words in the shout. visualize the words’ power
shout the words, whether its using your mouth or in your head. shout it with feeling. release all the energy youve built up through the words
thats it!!
and here are the shouts, their meanings, effects, and imagery associated with them! i didnt make stuff for all of them, but heres most of them!
My grandma taught me never to draw first blood. But that if a soul hurts me maliciously, the old gods will consider my vengeance an act of self-love.
Step 1: State your case.
In a dim, quiet, private place… shuffle your cards, as you recount to them every detail of how you were cruelly injured. As if writing in a diary, divulge aloud your agony. Let your heart fill with ache. Let your body swell with rage.
Step 2: Choose the punishment.
When your pain and fury are at their peak… find the card in the deck that in your soul you believe to fit the misdeed.
Death: Serious illness
The Devil: Emotional abuse
The Tower: Sweeping chaos
The Moon: Damaging secrets revealed
Five of Wands: Friends turning foes
Seven of Wands: Crippling stress
Nine of Wands: Paranoia
Ten of Wands: Bone fractures
Five of Cups: Bouts of depression
Two of Swords: Significant errors in judgement
Three of Swords: Sudden loss of love
Five of Swords: Defeat in competitions
Eight of Swords: Mental or physical imprisonment
Nine of Swords: Insomnia and anxiety
Ten of Swords: Festering cuts and bruises
Knight of Swords: Physical and verbal abuse
Five of Pentacles: Financial ruin
Step 3: Decide the duration.
Find a second card in your deck. Remember that even the smallest cut left unchecked can lead to death. So unless it is warranted… be fair and be prudent.
Ace of Wands: A few days
Ace of Swords: A week
Ace of Cups: A month
Ace of Pentacles: A year
Step 4: Carry out the sentence.
Hold both cards in your hands, with the punishment on top, and the duration behind it, hidden in the back.
Gaze at the card… and with every fiber of your being, imagine it moving.
If it is the Knight of Swords, watch him gallop on his way to cut your oppressor in half. If it is Death, see your oppressor lying lifeless by the Reaper’s horse. If it is the Ten of Swords, let your oppressor take the place of the corpse in the card. Watch their back ooze with blood from every wound, gash and slash.
Step 5: Let it go.
Your raw vulnerability in admitting your injury has connected you to the higher power you have faith in, be that the Universe or a deity.
They have heard your appeal, which will soon be fulfilled. Offer them your gratitude in advance. Your wounds are now in good hands.
It could take days… weeks… even longer. It will happen once your oppressor believes they have gotten away with bruising you. At that moment, a colossal flame will engulf their contentment. And you will know in your heart that the debt has been collected.
don’t incorporate the practices of closed cultures into your craft - it’s not your place to do so; this includes “smudging,” the use of dream catchers when obtained from non-natives, engaging in practices that are exclusive to poc if you are not a poc, etc.
Stereotyping
don’t buy into the idea that all witches are evil, female, worship the devil, are wiccan, etc.
on the same note, if you follow the wiccan ideology of the rule of three and “harm none” and all that jazz, don’t assume that everyone follows your path because, and this might be shocking to you, we don’t
Over-harvesting
refrain from using herbs that are endangered, threatened, or even sacred to some cultures, such as white sage or palo santo
there is always an alternative and an endless amount of herbs you can use in place of the popular ones you see floating around the internet
Purposely posting harmful information
before you freak out, hear me out: there is so much awful information out there, and part of me wants to believe that these people just don’t know any better but the other part of me knows that they legit believe in things like essential oils as a cure, and that vaccinations and healthcare providers are evil
don’t be that person
know that science and witchcraft can exist in the same world, and that you should not ignore medical advice in lieu of a magickal cure
Content theft
even if you’re saving things for your own use at a later date, tumblr has this nifty feature in which you can “reblog” things rather than save them and reupload them yourself - don’t repost, reblog
also please don’t screenshot popular posts and reupload them to places like instagram, pinterest, or facebook; rather, reblog our posts or find our instagram accounts to follow and support the original creators
it may seem utterly ridiculous, but believe it or not, content authors like myself put a ton of work into the stuff we post here - don’t think that because you reuploaded our work elsewhere that you’re “doing us a favor” and “helping to spread information” because you’re absolutely not
if you see content theft, please tell OP so they can report it and help put an end to the seemingly never ending content theft in this community
Gatekeeping
know that your path will likely differ from the next witch, and understand that there’s a difference between belittling someone for their beliefs and having a mature, educated discussion about it
the same goes for correcting actual misinformation or information that can be deemed harmful
it’s 100% okay to have different beliefs than what you see presented here on tumblr, just don’t be a dick about it
don’t like emoji spells? don’t use them. not a wiccan? who cares. perform curses? great!
in the grand scheme of things, we are all users on the same website - what we do with our practice in our own space is our business so, ultimately you should do what works for you but be open to criticism if you decide to post it publicly
RefDuring my research into Heathenism, I have been discovering undertones of racism in the strangest places. Just today, I picked up a version of the Poetic Edda to find the translation and the author’s explanation to be riddled with supremacist rhetoric. So I wanted to create a hot list, so to speak, of words and phrases to watch out for. If you see them, be wary for you may be reading some racist propaganda mixed in with your Heathenry.
The Hot List:
“Protect our Heritage”
“Preservation of our Heritage”
“Universalism” [this is not a bad word, but many racist materials will condemn universalism]
“Internationalism” [this is not a bad word, but many racist materials will condemn universalism]
“Heathenism’s True Followers”
“True Heathenism”
Overemphasis on our Ancestors or the Ancestors of those Practicing Heathenry
References to being “Born with Heathenry in your blood”
References to blood purityReferences to anything “running in your blood or heritage”
Overemphasis of Heathenism belonging only to Northern European peoples
A failure to mention that ANYONE can practice Heathenry, or a failure to use open invitation/welcoming rhetoric for anyone who may be picking up the book.
Because I keep getting a LOT of reblogs with misunderstandings…
1. I understand that heritage plays a large role in why people choose their path. Nothing wrong with this :)
2. Ancestor veneration is a huge part of Heathenism. But an emphasis ancestors needing to be Scandinavian is elitism/racism.
3. Being white does not make you racist. Being White and Scandinavian does not make you racist. REQUIRING someone to be white/scandinavian to practice Norse paganism makes you racist - or at the very least, elitist.
4. Believing that being White, and/or Scandinavian is a prerequisite for Heathenism or Asatru IS white supremacy, elitism, and frankly - policing other’s path. It is also feeling entitlement/elitism and ownership of Asatru due to your family ties. Since we had to reconstruct Asatru due to the willing conversion of all of Scandinavia to Christianity, no one owns the religion.
5. “Appropriation” is defined as the practice of cultural and religious staples outside of the proper and original context. Someone practicing Asatru who is not Scandinavian is NOT Cultural or Religious Appropriation.
And Finally I am not a SJW (Social Justice Warrior). I don’t go around finding causes to be my holy project to feel better about myself. I don’t get offended on behalf of other people for the purpose of feeling superior. I just don’t want elitism to remain the norm when I go to Blots, or meet other Heathens - I’m sick of it. I don’t want Hitler’s politics (1939-1945) to shape Asatru. Hitler’s BS white supremacy views were not historically part of Scandinavian culture or perspective. Racism is recent in this region and began in WWI-II. In the interest of reviving the TRUE faith and protecting Historical Norse Culture, I adopt their multicultural and open mind toward diversity. After all, they had achieved world trade a thousand years before any country in Europe. ANYONE can find comfort in the old gods, and many cultures have a deity based on Odin.
Final note - Vikings were not racial purists - they had sex with anyone and everyone on their travels. Even Native Americans.
I reblogged her late last year and my 2024 has been very satisfying work-wise and (secure enough to not stress out) money-wise so far. Money Snake is wise and good.
