While Grace is teaching the Eridians, he mentions how important socialization and pack bonding is for humans. Humans require a community to thrive and get depressed if they're left alone, so it's best to keep them in groups. However humans can pack bond with anything, and Grace is very close to the Eridians, so he's okay.
The Eridians misunderstand him, and proceed to panic because they only have one human. They only have one human but it turns out you need to keep them in packs. They can die if they're isolated for to long and they can't let Grace die this is bad bad bad.
So they send a message to earth, asking if anybody would be willing to volunteer to live on Erid with Grace. They stress that while this is a life or death matter, they need the human to be a willing participant. That all of their needs and wants would be met and that the Eridians would give Earth information and technology in exchange. The volunteer would be given a life of luxury in exchange for living on Erid with Grace.
Unfortunately, there is a mistranslation, and the humans think that the Eridians require a sacrifice otherwise they will use their resources against earth. In order to avoid a possible interstellar war with an alien species, they choose a convict who has a life sentence to be locked in a bare rocket and blasted off to Erid.
That is how Simon, the only survivor of his religious extremist cult, ended up on the SM-13 headed to an alien planet against his will.
Sun and Moon AU Fullbody Concept
Very rushed concept arts, I'm too lazy to do proper rendering but I had Simon's design floating on my head the whole day so here!! It's not my best work but i hope you guys enjoy
Finished Red Hood: Resurrection, and here are my thoughts
To get it out of the way out the gate, I do not like the costumes. I dislike the plasticy feeling, dark, desaturated, armored costuming style of live action Bat media. It's just not my thing. It's a) really hard to sell me on their ability to fight and flip in stiff clothing and b) disappointing to see a lack of color in what is such a colorful medium. And TAKE JASON ROBIN OUT OF THE ACCURSED TIM DRAKE ROBIN OUTFIT THIS INSTANT!
That said, what did I LIKE about the costumes? I think Jason was consistently well-costumed throughout. Nightwing and Tim feel like their costumes are just rentals, but Jason's clothing ties into the story beautifully as well as having more saturated color than anyone else in the show. The initial costume being his later comic outfit worked really well for me. It's casual; it's bright; it's distinctive, but it doesn't mean anything. Then he slowly acquires pieces of what will be his final costume over the show. His enemies helmet protecting him, his own past life's jacket on his shoulders, his father's symbol on his chest, adapted to mean something to him. And that monologue about what exactly a red bat symbol means to him was excellent. 10/10 Jason costuming.
While I am a cloth Deathstroke mask truther (pry it out of my cold dead hands along with the boots that are 90% cuff!), I liked his scarf. Finally a piece of a costume that feels like it's just for Fun. For Flair. And, looking at the credits, I see the body actor (clearly highly trained for the fight choreo) and the voice actor were different, which a helmet covers really well.
There is something interesting to be said for the villains having brighter, more eye-catching colors in their costumes (Jason's saturated red, Black Mask's bright white suit, the Joker's facepaint, Deathstroke's scarf and orange (albeit desaturated orange...) vs the heroes with darker colors (didn't even know that there was blue in Nightwing's outfit until the last episode because it was so dark and desaturated).
Now onto the show proper
This show. Makes me like Tim Drake in a way that I do not think anything else has. I like him. I'm rooting for him. I want to see him call Deathstroke The Terminator Mr. Stroke. I want to see him and Jason be friends.
Jason and Tim's actors were the best in the series, and every scene between the two of them was on fire, a rapid ping-ponging volley of charisma between the two. I never believe in the characters more than when it's the two of them.
The fight scenes were overall very good. My favorites are 1) Jason vs Tim (the pained squeak Tim lets out when slammed into something made me wince in sympathy; it felt like a real fight) and 2) Any fight with Deathstroke. (They capture Slade's ability to "see faster than other people" beautifully in how he reacts and moves, and I love Tim & Jason using him as a platform to roll off of! Great way to explore smaller, lither fighters vs a bigger, more solid one! And it feels so disrespectful! Love that!)
I like that this show is not an adaptation of Under The Red Hood or any comic story that I know about. It's taking inspiration from a few things, certainly, but it's telling an original story, and I have a huge amount of respect for that. I mean, Bruce isn't even there! WHat a bold move! Paralleling Jason & Tim was amazing and so refreshing against comics!Tim "See, Jason was reckless and impulsive and got himself killed, while I the Superior Robin follow my instincts and don't die." Making Dick & Tim the Bruce & Jason analogue was fantastic in that regard too.
This was one of my favorite interpretations of the Joker ever. The click! of his teeth snapping! And he felt like a cruel, sane man with a gimmick and penchant for violence, which is always my preference with the character. I also really like that the facepaint was facepaint. I know it varies based on comic era, and it's much more common these days for it to just be his face, but this choice lends itself more to his gimmick, the active choice he makes every day to be The Joker.
TIM MADE JASON A SANDWICH. YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND, JASON TODD EATS A LOT OF SANDWICHES IN THE 80S COMICS. HUGE FOR ME. HUGE. JASON & SANDWICH POST WILL BE OUT SOON, MARK MY WORDS.
Jason stole an extra 5 mill for himself <3 He deserves it <3
I enjoyed the final conflict a lot. I like that it's Jason choosing the third option (which, of course was never really a choice that could create a perfect win state for him), and that it is motivated by care.
The biggest characterization misstep in the series to me was Jason killing the shoulder wound goon in the first episode. Jason is not an indiscriminate killer; he's a very discriminate killer, which is a huge part of what makes him interesting. I think following through on his word would have added to the themes of the show and Tim's impression of Jason from the start far more than what they went with.
Seriously? Talia is here and has NO DIALOGUE?? Come on.
I was shocked by how much I liked Deathstroke in this. I was half-expecting him to be just a recognizable default mercenary, but they really leaned into his mental enhancements (the "seeing faster than other people" and just being able to think and analyze very quickly) a lot. My favorite beat of that was him seeing Black Mask!Jason and instantly knowing a) That isn't Black Mask b) That is the guy who's been causing Black Mask problems c) That guy is the kid from the League of Assassins. And communicating all that in 'Is that a new suit'. Excellent. He should have had boots that were 90% cuff, but I will take what I can get. I also like that he does not lose the physical fights he is in. Because he's freaking Deathstroke The Terminator.
Dick drove me up a wall in this in a way that lent itself perfectly to the themes the show was going for and the story it was trying to tell. 10/10 love to see a story make a bold choice and stick to it. Wanted to ring his neck when he pulled the 'Jason was a bad seed from the start' nonsense. But, again, the show is paralleling Jason & Tim. Dick says that; but I don't think the show says it, which makes all the difference to me. And Dick is proven wrong at the end!
Dick's actor was good on close up face shots, but, next to Tim, he did feel a little wooden unfortunately. I did love the shot of him stabbed calling out for Jason though.
Jason doing push ups while blasting music <3
Jason staring at the Bat Suit clearly wishing Bruce were really there and being so relieved he's not and maybe something in between that lends itself to stealing the outfit for himself like wrapping himself in Bruce's cape while also denying him. Bruce did not need to be there for me to go wild over the father and son of it all!!
Overall, was this my favorite version of The Jason Todd story? No. But I enjoyed watching it, found it to be a compelling elseworld, and would watch more if more gets made!
"Grace Ryland is Rocky's dog" is such a funny fucking dynamic when you think about it
Eridians are further behind than humans technologically right? They dont have computers, relativity, quantum mechanics, etc. In fact, Eridians probably dont even know about the Big Bang because their atmosphere would filter out most of the cosmic microwave background radiation we use to detect it. On a human timeline, theyre anywhere between like early-mid 20th century. Rocky's basically a cosmonaut.
So the human civilization is pretty advanced from Rocky's perspective. Rationally he understands this. On a conceptual level he knows this to be true.
But at the same time... imagine youre one of the first ever cosmonauts to make it into space. Then you meet a 10 year old alien dog who cant do 2+2 without pulling out its calculator. It forgets everything constantly and has to keep notes everywhere, like it basically lives in Memento (2000). Also if it doesnt nap constantly it gets even stupider. And you somehow has to reconcile this with the fact that this dog has a better understanding of physics than your entire civilization does. Like the dog knows how the universe started.
This isnt better from Grace's perspective btw. Eridians never developed computers, so all their ship systems are steered using basically the manual labor of 24 Eridians. Also theres no radiation shielding on their ship. Actually im pretty sure half the reason why Rocky is always busy fixing shit is because the radiation keeps frying all the onboard electronics, so hes always building and fixing and replacing components
Like imagine being a modern day sailor navigating the Pacific with GPS and strong hulls to protect against the raging ocean. And from portside you see like an honest to god viking ship. Except its made of some high tech carbon fiber material. But like, its still very definitely a viking ship. You can clearly see there's 24 oars along the hull where sailors are supposed to use to manually row their ship. Also the ship is leaking and theres like one little dude on board whos skittering around patching the holes constantly. Also this little dude is blind and doesnt know about water. Thats how insane Eridians look being an interstellar species without computers or radiation shielding.
Both of them thinks the other one is the completely ridiculous and absurd one and theyre both totally amazed at how far the other has come in spite of it
the upgraded xenonite suit was invented shortly after

creepy tim drake you will always be famous
The Joker's iconic look is a fun little pop culture fossil. Like, he's not a circus clown or a birthday clown or a rodeo clown or any other kind of clown you might bump into today: he's specifically a vaudeville clown. We don't have those anymore, so that specific type of clown is now just "the Joker".
I was wondering why so few clowns sport a tux with tails like he does.
Yeah, the kind of clown that the Joker's classic look is evoking is very much a clown for the stage. The idiom of the vaudeville clown has more in common with Charlie Chaplin than with Bozo.
Nine year old Dick making extremely specific digs about the inferiority of vaudeville clownery and how pretentious someone would have to be to be a fan of vaudeville when they are CLEARLY the lowest and lamest form of clown. The Joker is being read for filth by a kid still in single digits and the true horror is that Batman gets the reference and is visibly smothering a laugh
look, just because vaudville vanished a decade before clown eggs became a thing is no excuse for him to not get his own egg NOW this doesnt change that he's Doing It Wrong
Dick comes from a circus background. *Of course* he considers vaudeville to be the lowest form of clown.
Yeah, in my mind the humour of the proposed scenario is very much that Dick and the Joker are both being pretentious assholes about the history and practice of clowning, but, like, from opposite directions.
I live for clown discourse
That's why we're on tumblr
[ID: Tags that say, "#as much as i enjoy the little jokes about dick teasing him for “not being a real clown” #he is actually a real clown #just not a circus clown #or a type of clown whose medium exists anymore in general". End ID]
kind of like Miss Piggy in that way
this is my Batman villain OC he’s a rodeo clown and I call him The Jokester
wait go back how does Miss Piggy figure into this?
her character archetype, an aging starlet from the golden age of hollywood reduced to performing in a theater variety show, doesn't really exist anymore in wider pop culture except as references to Miss Piggy herself
I saw this interview and my mind went immediately: yea. Those are absolutely Dick (🥰) and Jason ()
really incredible website just dropped where you larp being an ai and respond to people's "prompts."

Bun's Ask Game
I saw a few similar ideas from these posts (ana/byrds) but wanted to try a slightly different approach for my own style. Asks will be filled on Tumblr or my Ao3 (Bundollier).
How to Play:
Suggest 1-2 characters, pick a number between 1-200, and optionally select a feeling/trope and/or a universe.

You can suggest things outside the list too, I'm pretty open.

I won't do crossovers to other fandoms, Titans 2018 TV show, Young Justice 2010 Cartoon characterizations or DCEU. (DCAU is perfectly okay.) Also note the rarer the character, the less likely I'll feel comfortable writing them.
the true sibling bonding

I'm an absolute sucker for clingy zoro, so here's some wholesome zosan brainrot
zoro will go and sleep in the kitchen when he knows sanji's there because he likes the sound of him moving around
while sanji's doing something that requires staying in one spot a while(e.g. washing dishes), zoro will just sit behind him and rest his head on his shoulder
likewise he'll find sanji sitting and just lie down in his lap for a catnap
sometimes he just sits in his lap and fall asleep, hugging like a koala, which means sanji just carries him around whenever he needs to move
they go shopping together when there's too much food and because zoro gets lost so much he will grab onto sanji's jacket when it gets too crowded
sanji will hold or fidget with zoro's fingers because he knows it helps him fall asleep
after a long and tiring battle sanji will insist all of them take showers but zoro never actually washes himself he just soaks in the water, so sanji just goes in to wash him wish soap and shampoo properly
(bonus↑)zoro would never say it out load but he loves being taken care of, especially having his hair washed
