I do not care about boomers and their property tax. If you can't afford your property tax it's because your house value is too high, which means you're rich.

Plenty of folks that are dirt poor have houses. Houses they struggled to get into and will owe on for the next 30+ years of their lives, because they want their kids to have a yard to play in, or because a house was actually cheaper per month than rent in their area, or because they wanted that ‘American dream’ everyone’s been force fed for the last 100 years. “House Poor” is a term for a reason…

Regardless, certainly the majority of people who have houses wouldn’t ’make a million dollars’ if they were forced to move. That’s just ignorant fantasy talk. Most homes aren’t even valued at $1 million, much less earning PROFIT that high.

And most people really affected by property tax increases DON’T have expensive houses because, fun fact, property taxes aren’t always calculated on home value. My state, for example, charges per square foot of all buildings on the property. House, carport, storage shed, cobbled together greenhouse to grow some veggies in…. If they can justify that it’s a “building”, they tax it. No matter how fancy or how dilapidated or leaking through the roof it is.

So the households struggling to make $40k a year get charged just as much as someone sitting pretty earning $350k.

I get it hun. Tax the rich and all that. But you’ve gotta focus your ire on those that actually deserve your scorn. Not just every person that lives in a house…

The million dollars was hyperbole, but if your property taxes go up and you can't afford them anymore, it's always because the property value increased, and you could profit by downsizing. Pay your taxes and shut up

The state can raise property taxes whenever they choose. And it can affect EVERYONE who owns property. Millionaires AND poor struggling families alike. And some folks are living so close to the edge of their means because the cost of living just keeps going up and up and up…. that that increase on the whim of the state pushes them past what they can literally afford to pay if they want to also eat. (I again urge you to look up what ‘House Poor’ means.)

That is a real thing that happens to real people. Not hyperbole.

Poor folks that did nothing wrong. Except for the crime of choosing to live in a house apparently, which makes them bad and clearly all actually rich people who should “pay your taxes and shut up” according to some…

Again hun, your fight should be with the actual people that are the actual problem in this world, not just being angry online at everyone who dares to live in a house instead of renting…

Focus that anger where it's actually useful and actually deserving.

No one should be forced to move for any reason, including you. That’s the fight we need to be fighting. I know how easy it is to get into a “suck it up because I have to so you should too!” mindset but you shouldn’t have to do it either.

This is why I oppose outright removing property taxes but support reforms to homestead exemption so it scales with increased home values/inflation. Homestead exemption helps lower and middle class people stay in their homes (and afford to own in the first place) while the wealthy or landlords or vacation home owners still pay their fair share. It allows an amount of untaxed property in the form of the home you own and live in. Anything above a certain appraised value or any additional properties are taxed. So the person who barely owns a trailer pays little to nothing. The person who owns a mid-range home pays a little. The person who owns a McMansion pays more. The person who owns multiple properties pays more.

There are middle grounds that offer the largest amount of harm reduction so it’s worth it to watch for and support those. You deserve better just as much as they do so look for the options that support that.

the more i think about the fox cardigan in project hail mary the more obsessed i get. like, it's a vintage knitting pattern that can only be handmade and they even modified the original wolf design into foxes for the film. and then ALSO the crochet earth ball and beanbags.....

so now my question is: was the cardigan a gift from someone who correctly identified him as the exact type of man who would own a fox cardigan or did ryland grace knit that sweater himself

does he knit. does he crochet. is that how he relaxes after dealing with middle schoolers all day. i need answers

I have to believe this man knits and crochets, there's no other explanation he had to have knit that sweater himself like he's not close enough with anyone on earth to reach the Knit You A Sweater level of a relationship. Like as a knitter I can verify that none of Ryland's earth relationships would be able to overcome the sweater curse and survive so like if Linda knit it for him the sweater wouldn't exist and no one else in this man's life is close enough to make one for him like sorry Marissa I know you are very close friends with Dr. Captain Ryland Grace but I'm just not seeing that relationship overcome sweater curse entropy, and then everyone else he meets after he already has it.

Also Stratt included the sweater in his pack, sweaters are very bulky items that would've taken up a lot of space and been largely unnecessary in a temperature controlled spaceship so like she had to have included that for sentimental reasons, like the rest of his wardrobe is graphic tees
