everybody temporarily body-swapped and an 'only speak the truth' curse! Somehow I think that would be fun (and lots of chaos ;D)
Oh man, this would be such a lovely mess.
I mean, you say “everybody” body-swapped, which immediately makes me think of an ensemble cast, Persons A, B, C, D, E, F, and G (and so on). And wouldn’t it be hilarious if the body-swap wasn’t a simple back and forth? If Person B was in D’s body, and D was in C’s, who was in A’s, A is in E’s, who is in G’s, who is in F’s, and F is in B’s.
Just… try for a second to actually picture that mess as they line themselves up and go “who’s who now?” and constantly get confused by who they’re talking to. Picture it with the Avengers, with Young Justice or the Teen Titans, with the Flash or Flarrow or Legends groups.
I can only imagine it was a powerful witch or spell that created this mess, tbh.
Okay. So take Person C, who is in A’s body, and Person A, who is in E’s body. Imagine that Person C and A are in love but haven’t admitted it yet? That pining, slow burn, ‘they could never love me back’ thing?
And Person C is gonna’ be a cinnamon roll, okay, who can’t tell if it’s the jackpot or a nightmare to be stuck in their crush’s body because wow this is great but whoa this isn’t okay, how can they be in this body and make sure that they’re 110% respectful? Do they close their eyes when they change? But then… damn. It’s okay if they peak just a little, right? No that’s wrong! But… *dreamy sigh*. And then oh shit, shower time. Poor little Cinnamon Roll Person C is an embarrassed mess – “it’s your body right now” they remind themselves every 30 seconds “it’s just a body. it’s no big deal. hey where did this scar come from? why did [Person C] never mention it, it looks like it was a deep one? and huh, this birthmark is super cute :3 and… oooooh shit I’m naked in the shower.”
Meanwhile, Person A is also in love with Person C and is low-level freaking out about Person C stuck in their own body because they’ve been pining after Person C for ages and they’re pretty sure that Person C will never ever look at them the same after this. They’re secretly also jealous because they sort of wish they’d been stuck in Person C’s body in reverse, instead of in Person E’s. And Person C is treating them totally different and they can’t tell if it’s because of the general discomfort of this body swap thing or if they’re already not able to look at them the same (it’s neither. it’s that Person C is used to flirting with Person A but isn’t at all attracted to Person E so their instinct isn’t to flirt when A is stuck in E’s body and A has never /not/ been on the receiving end of C’s flirting and doesn’t realize how Person C treats literally everyone but them).
But okay, with /that/ mess in mind, layering on the “only speak the truth”? Gosh it would be a lovely mess.
“How was your shower?” A asks seemingly-benignly but secretly worried about how C might see them differently after seeing their scars, etc.
“Amaaazing” C responds dreamily before clapping a hand over their mouth and going red. “I just mean – you’re super ho – I mean very fit – yes you are very fit that is a fact that anyone would say obviously it is the truth haha or I couldn’t say it yes.”
Person A (in E’s body) eyes them like they’re crazy and doesn’t respond for a moment.
“Were uh, you thinking about me in the shower?” Person C asks back to deflect the comment back on A.
“Yes.” Shit. “I mean, thinking about you using my body in the shower. And I would say that sounds worse than I meant it, but I mean it both ways. Shit.”
Cinnamon C’s eyes go wide. “What are both ways?”
Cue the stilted embarrassment of Person A admitting they were thinking of whether C was going to touch themselves in the shower and C blushing and saying they didn’t and A admitting they wouldn’t mind and both of them being mortified and not knowing how to interpret one another even with the truth curse.
Annnnnnnd in this case, Person E, who is currently stuck in G’s body (but person A is stuck in their’s) ends up being a matchmaker for A and C “but not until you have your own goddamn bodies back! don’t use me like that!” because they can’t stand watching this trainwreck any longer. Person D (the current occupant of C’s body) spends the whole fic amused because Person A (in E’s body) keeps checking them out and it’s not subtle. At the end, Person D and E get together because of it.
