Buffy swallows thickly. Cordy can’t know about her and Spike, right? That would be crazy. Still, the timing is suspicious, and why else would Cordelia be breaking their streak of no contact?

“Just in case what?” Buffy says cautiously.

“Well, I know you’re fond of a man with fangs, and I wouldn’t want you getting knocked up over it,” Cordelia explains. “Especially since Darla had no way of terminating the pregnancy, mystical or otherwise.” Shit.

u know what else about spike getting his soul? maybe it's just me but something about angel representing what booktok and manosphere incels today call an "alpha male" like. as someone that reads a lot of romance books i can tell you angel is exactly the type of mmc that's ubiquitous in this genre BUT. he's really only the aesthetic of it because usually guys like this in books are so beloved because they are so obsessed with the fmc that they'd do anything for her. and doesn't that sound more along the lines of spike? a dude that's so down bad he barely comes across as endearing more like pathetic and ridiculous and embarrassing. he wears makeup and dyes his hair and cries very often and he's funny and kinda short, he paints his nails and loves poetry and soap operas and long coats. he's evil but he loves the world he lives in, he's not resentful towards humanity in general and is actually overall quite joyous and whimsical, especially when he's having fun doing evil stuff that evil villains do etc etc. and HE is the one that went to the ends of the underworld and did the impossible for the woman he loves. HE is what myths and legends are made of, not angel the mysterious manly man that men love to mimic. angel TO ME represents just how fucking shallow words are without actions to back them up

we have dandelions EVERYWHERE, they are basically our State Weed, it is absolutely impossible that my mom has never interacted with a dandelion before, this requires further investigation

So after extensive interrogation I have an update:

my mom is in fact aware that dandelions exist. she temporarily forgot the name and there was some miscommunication.

the truth is actually weirder

she’s aware dandelions look like this

she is familiar with this flower. she knows the name of this flower. she declines to believe, however, that these are also dandelions

she does not believe these are the same plant. I tried to explain, and she thought I was either misinformed or lying. so I asked her what exactly did she think the yellow ones were called?

she answered, with complete confidence: Daffodils.

anyway all this to say. spike is the only man buffy ever got romantically involved with that would pass The Ted Test which is just one multiple choice question and looks something like this:

so, it turns out buffy hates her mom's new boyfriend and thinks there's something intrinsically wrong with him. perhaps he's not human, she isn't sure, but she is sure the vibes are off. your best course of action is to ______:

a. tell her she's overreacting and needs to try harder to get along with him. after all, he could be her stepdad sometime soon, and doesnt joyce deserve a little happiness?

b. ask if she really has to talk about this now, you hardly get to see her and you want to talk about [insert subject here]. brood if she keeps talking about him

c. tell her if she hates him so much, you could always try to kill him for her. he probably doesnt deserve joyce. and in any case, if buffy says something's not right with the man, he's clearly ontologically evil and cannot be trusted (especially not with joyce)

I love how in beer bad buffy daydreams of saving Parker from vampires and him being thankful and confessing his love for her. As if?! Angel, riley, Parker, none of them like being the damsel in distress and would always prefer to be the hero and save buffy. Spike my princess is the only damsel in distress who would be thankful and immediately declare his undying love for buffy, the hero.
