While this is a funny joke, as far as I'm aware this company is actually pretty cool, and the purpose behind the Liquid Death (sparkling or still) water is quite wholesome.

Part of the reason for it being a tallboy is that aluminum cans are more recyclable than water bottles, potentially infinitely so, while water bottles either have a limited amount of recyclability potential or aren't actually recyclable at all.

The other reason is to literally make it more fun and appealing to drink something other than alcohol at concert venues. Part of getting over addiction or even getting away from a culture that is doing you harm is, in the US at least, heavily associated with becoming "no fun". The idea here is to make water as fun in terms of packaging as alcohol, so people who are going sober, who can't drink, or who are the Designated Driver don't have to feel like they're relegated to the "no fun zone" forever and still get to order something with a silly name. We had these at my brother's wedding as an alcohol alternative and tbh it was really neat.

I mean. It’s not as funny of a story as the title would lead you to believe, it’s more of an acab story than anything else bc apparently the butthurt firefighters who got their asses clown kicked stirred up shit the next day, hence the term riots rather than barfights.

back then firefighters were privatized, individualized companies and both them and the cops were in the same small but violent protestant groups that got all the important jobs in the city, largely known as the Orange Order.

Which is why there was barely (if any) police intervention when shit hit the fan day of. The firefighters had rooted up a bunch of their pals from the orange club on a vengeance warpath and the police took every effort to stall intervention. Apparently it took the mayor showing up and reportedly preventing a fireman from clown murder by prying an axe from his hands to start shutting the whole situation down

And apparently this, in accumulation with a bunch of other bullshit that involved anti-catholic riots and I think a bank robbery (?) was the impetus of widespread police reform. Like complete overhaul kinda reform. Like every-single-person-fired-and-replaced-potentially-multiple-times kinda reform.

Which is also why I can say clowns were an integral part of 19th century police reform.

having museums full of reproductions would be even cooler than having museums full of sacred artifacts because when modern craftspeople are able to replicate those artifacts, it’s usually because they still make the same items the same way today

this means that you could have description tags emphasizing that such-and-such item has been made by these people in almost the same way for hundreds of years

having museums full of beautiful reproductions takes the emphasis off of Things and places it on the People who make them, which is really as it should be
