Ok so listen I know “people with tails” is a very common fantasy trope, whether we’re talking tieflings or lizard folk or cat people or whatever, but why do you only ever see depictions of tailed people with the tails out?
Like people will be wearing pants, but the tail is out? I kind of feel like people with tails would be more creative or adaptive in their lower-half clothing. Like it would make sense for tailed people, male or female or nonbinary, to wear high-waisted skirts or long tunics. Like if you’re going through the trouble of covering your legs to protect them from the elements, would you not also go through the trouble of protecting your tail, especially if it’s a really useful tail? Like why not a third pant “leg” for the tail? A sleeve? A glove?
Especially if in this speculative fiction your character is running around out of doors in places with dangerous plant material and people shooting at them.
I just think it’s kind of uninspired that nobody is doing interesting stuff with tail-influenced fashion. I know this is kind of because the tails are novel to us so we want to see them, but the tails would not be novel to them. That’s just a limb you’re failing to protect. I want to see lizard dudes in like big high-waisted skirts and tiefling ladies who’ve figured out good light armor for their tails
This post brought to you by some “garak with a tail” fanart. That man is a tailor. You cannot tell me he’d constantly just be letting it hang out like that. It would be covered in upholstery fabric. Like come on.
