I hate posting news, but I haven't seen anyone else really talk about this on here. I know most people don't care about politics unless it's US or UK politics, but this is important and I don't think it should be ignored. I really think that banning kids off social media is a bad idea, and I don't know how they plan to enforce this yet. I'm an adult, but will this affect me? Will this turn into me needing to show my ID or my face just to use tumblr?

First of all, thank you for bringing this to my attention! I have heard rumors and seen news about Canada's social media ban and internet censorship laws in the past (2025) ,but I haven't heard any recent news until now about it.

Let's get into it.

I don't think this is a good idea. I do not think companies and the government should have that much of an overreach of power online. That should be a parents responsibility to set limits and blockers. The government is not trying to help children, or else they would make laws that actually help minors. I addressed the negative effects and what will actually happen/is happening because of the internet censorship/social media bans. It's up in my popular posts on my blog. It starts out with "Oh sweet summer child". if you want to take a read. What they are actually trying to do is censor media so that the youth stays uninformed. How can you organize or protest if you don't know what is going on? The answer is you can't, or it's gonna be pretty hard. Especially since most of our communities are online nowadays. That is what they are planning on taking it away so that we can't fight against them. These laws affect TONS of vulnerable groups of people on the internet, not just minors!
