this video really helped me feel more confident that i was washing my hands the right way
So it’s very late but I want to share the best piece of wisdom my mother has ever offered me.
One time, when I was having a very hard time, bad enough that I admitted I was struggling to my mother. My mother looked at me and told me: “Don’t make big decisions in February.”
I was very confused, because it was not February at the time, but she explained that one year, when she was younger but old enough to live on her own, she was having a very hard time, much like me. She found herself feeling especially low and especially stressed in February. And she decided she wouldn’t make any big changes for the rest of the month.
And the month went by, and she had a hard time, but time passed and it happened that by the beginning of March, she was feeling a lot better. And she was able to make big decisions she had avoided in February.
So now it’s a mantra for me: Don’t make big decisions in February.
February being whenever I feel down or angry or stressed.
Boss or coworkers being crappy? Don’t make big decisions in February.
Feeling lonely and it’s 2am and you have a bottle of hair dye just sitting on your bathroom sink? Don’t make big decisions in February.
Give yourself space to think through your decisions. Bad moods rarely give you the best judgement. Anxiety disorders, depression, and other mental illnesses will try to convince you the wrong decisions are the right ones, and in the moment, they sound very convincing.
So give yourself time to figure out if that’s what you actually need, what you actually want, and what would maybe feel good in the moment but have consequences you’re not willing or ready to deal with.
Try not to make life changes in February, whatever February is for you.

currently thinking about how self isolation and quarantine will unfortunately lead to more domestic abuse cases world wide.

Epi Pen PSA -- could save a life!
In addition to my breast cancer, I have the joy of multiple autoimmune diseases. One of them causes me to have anaphylaxis to myself, so in addition to the bi-weekly cancer chemo I receive monthly Immunotherapy. They will not administer it at your appointment unless you have your Epi Pens with you, because the Immunotherapy itself can cause anaphylaxis and you may need it on the ride home.
I had Immunotherapy Monday, and as the chemo fog has fried my brain, I decided to get out my box and check on when my Epi Pens expire while I was sitting there for my 30 minute post delivery observation, My Nurse noticed me looking at the box, and I told her I was checking the expiration date.
She walked over and told me the date I was looking at was only the expiration date of the prescription, not the actual Epinephrine syringe. Where I live, pill bottles and the like typically say “Drug Z, Filled 1-2-33,Good until 1-2-34, 5 refills expires 1-2-34” so Drug Z was good for a year and so was the prescription.
The tag on my Epi Pen box said “Filled 4-10-19 Expires 4-10-20”
She told me that Epi Pens were different, the tag on the box was the date for the prescription expiration only. The medication, the actual Epinephrine expiration dates were only on the syringes themselves. She then proceeded to open the box, remove the sheaths, open them and remove the syringes, and show me the expiration dates.
My Epi Pens had been dispensed in April 2019, and had expired in July of 2019. My Epi Pens, on which my life might depend, had expired SEVEN FREAKING MONTHS AGO. They had had a lifespan of three months.
I was angry, and horrified. They immediately sent a new scrip to my pharmacy of course and I thanked her for telling me as it potentially could have saved my life. I also asked her to inform every single patient who came in that office, and she will.
She told me that every single time I pick up an Epi Pen prescription, immediately go sit in one of the waiting chairs, open up the box, and check the dates on the syringes. If it’s not a year, go back up and demand they take them back and order new syringes with a one year life span, as typically we are renewing them with a few days lee way either way once we know the true expiration date..
If for some reason they refuse call your insurance company and they should raise hell. Apparently this is legal because when the pharmacy gets a scrip and orders the pens, the manufacturer is not sending expired merchandise. And of course, if there’s an issue, the consumer didn’t fulfill their responsibility to check the expiration date.
Two years ago, I anaphylaxed alone at home. It progressed fast, and as soon as I unlocked the front door and called 911, I delivered a pen through my jeans into my thigh. It didn’t stop the progress. They gave me a dose of Epi, and a giant dose of steroids in the ambulance, and they met us with an intubation kit at the hospital.
The responders and Docs in the ED at first were wondering if I had delivered the pen properly of course, but as they quickly removed my clothes they saw the syringe bruise and the drop of dried blood right in the right place. For the remainder of my hospital stay they couldn’t figure out why the Epi Pen hadn’t stopped or at least slowed it down. That’s what they do, they don’t reverse it.
Now I look back and wonder. I had tossed the used pen in the trash immediately, and thrown out the other in it’s box when I came home from the hospital with a new two pack. What if the syringe I had used had expired six or seven or nine months before? What if my new kit had expired four months later?
I am furious, and frightened for those who don’t know, I’ve already contacted my best friend for her husband, and my niece for her little girl. I will be contacting my GP to see if he knew this and every one else I know eventually, and asking them to spread the word.
Check your Epi Pens, tell every one you know, and please signal boost this and REBLOG IT to spread the word.
Thanks guys, and be well. Love xXx
Hey guys, this is something to go check and fix right now.

@thebibliosphere, you probably already know about this, maybe some of your followers could use this info?
Welp, I’m off to check my new Epi-pens cause I’ve been using the date on the box this whole time.

Tumblr: *rolls out “best stuff first”*
My blog:
on the one hand this is a joke post because lol i have never made a good post in my life, but also, if i hadn’t made the connection between this update and my sudden nosedive in activity, i would have been really fucking discouraged about all the shit i’ve been working on lately. i guarantee there are people on tumblr right now who haven’t made that connection, and who are trying to figure out why suddenly no one likes anything they’ve made. and that fucking sucks.
Reminder to go into your settings and turn off ‘Best Stuff First’ because my activity’s tanked a couple days ago for no reason so this stuff IS happening.
You WILL miss content with that setting on.
i ain’t joking when i say that my activity looks JUST like this too and i wasn’t sure why
I can only find the option on the app under Settings > Dashboard Preferences.
To support content creators do us a favour and turn off “Best stuff first”. Open the tumblr app (Android or iOs) and go to “Settings > Dashboard Preferences. And please reblog this post, so that everybody will see this. Thank you very much!
I assumed I just wasn’t writing very well, but maybe it’s not just me.
Am I supposed to pay to get my writing in front of followers now?
We interrupt your regularly-scheduled sci-fi content because this is important for app users, and it sucks. We all follow blogs because we want to see their content, not to have a crappy algorithm decide what’s best.
This blog is down approximately 80%, which doesn’t affect me other than as an annoyance (as this is a hobby and @okayto is small-ish) but the issue undoubtedly hurts others.
Below are instructions for turning it off. You have to do it individually–it doesn’t matter if a blog you follow turns it off, you’ll still be affected unless you do the same.
We don’t normally reblog PSAs, but this is very clearly affecting us, too! If you haven’t been getting your daily dose of RPG humor, this setting is probably why. Turn it off so you can see all the silly shit players say!
Trying to reblog the versions of these instructions with the most notes, so they’ll actually show up for the people afflicted by this update.
homeless, freezing
i dont even know what to say about this. it is -5 degrees outside, and icing. i have no place to stay or stay inside of, and the cheapest motel room is 75 dollars. i am scared im going to die tonight. i feel defeated. i dont know if theres a point in boosting this, but i thought id give it a try.

For anyone who might be writing fic in order to raise money/donations for a cause, please remember not to mention that anywhere on AO3. It is against the Terms of Service to charge money for fic, even if that money is not going to you, personally. Please don’t mention commissions or donations or fundraising or patreon or kofi etc etc in a fic or on your profile. ❤
I will boost this signal, mostly for myself because my brain is apparently a fucking colander and I can’t remember shit sometimes; and also add, if you’re the one who commissioned a fic, don’t mention that on ao3 either. Not even in your bookmarks! I forget other people can see my notes there. Please don’t get your writing friends in trouble, like I almost did a couple of times :(
Just say ‘i asked for this pairing/trope/continuation/whatever’ Don’t say ‘i commissioned this’.
i’ve had “if you enjoy my writing, click here” with a link to my kofi in all of my end notes for a couple years and nothing’s happened, so maybe try that
Nope. You’re still breaking their TOS by having a site like ko-fi directly linked, and if anyone finds that out or someone reports you, you can lose your entire account. They have to enforce these rules in order to protect us from copyright laws. It’s why for decades individual fandom creators used to put “I do not own this work or profit from it” at the start of every fic/chapter.
What you can do, is say “follow me on tumblr” and promote your ko-fi on your tumblr. But I’ve seen people do the link to their ko-fi/patreon without explicitly mentioning them and still losing their accounts or getting hit by warnings cause someone reported them. (The one person I knew who outright lost their account just kept doing it repeatedly despite multiple warnings, like a doofus, so that was on them.)
(I think there may be exceptions for certain charity drives, but I don’t think ko-fi and patreon are protected by that)
as far as I can tell, ko-fi and patreon are absolutely not protected by that even if it’s charity, because both of those places are also ways you could essentially be making money off of the links from your fic.
Like, heck, as far as I know you shouldn’t even mention/link to unrelated-to-fanfic stuff like your Etsy or whatever because technically speaking if people went to your Etsy from your fic, you could make money from the advertising you did within that fic, and that’s still making money off it.
promote your ways of making/receiving money on your social media, and link to that. Don’t advertise even non-fandom-related stuff on AO3, because that’s still advertising and that’s still making money on fanfic, even if I don’t know if that’s currently explicitly banned. It certainly could easily be used against you or AO3 in the event of a lawsuit, so could probably still get your account taken down, so don’t do it.
Ko-fi and Patreon links are absolutely not allowed. Do the roundabout “If you like my work, find out more here” and then link to your social media of choice - your twitter, tumblr, dreamwidth, pillowfort, whatever. And THERE, on your social media profile, put a link to your donation page. That way you aren’t soliciting donations on AO3, but people who follow the link can still find a way to donate if they choose. Likewise, don’t post that something was commissioned - you can say it was a gift for someone, or that so and so requested it, that’s totally okay, but avoid the implication that money was exchanged.
Same with charity fundraisers. You can say “To find out more about [issue], visit this link”, and include a link to an information page about, say, the fires in Australia, or a domestic abuse hotline, or helping a specific individual or group, or whatever it may be, and that page can include donation info. But you can’t say “Donate here and I’ll write you a fic!” on the Archive itself. Do that on your tumblr or twitter or wherever else.
Also, this is why it’s REALLY IMPORTANT to keep your email on AO3 up to date (aside from obvious security issues, like if you ever need to reset your password). If something is reported and the Policy and Abuse team need to contact you, they will use the email associated with your account. They will always, always contact you first - nobody’s works or account get removed without them having attempted to contact the person to inform them of the issue, and waited for a reply, and giving the person a chance to fix it. If someone’s works get removed, then either a) they haven’t replied to attempts to contact them or b) they’ve replied but refused to change things or c) there have been repeated infractions, as mentioned above. They can’t contact you if they’re emailing your old hotmail address you deleted three years ago, or your college address when you graduated in 2016.
You are wanted. You are loved. You are needed.

This really a strong ass picture. Black women are super heroes!
I love everything about this, but might I ask. Why the FUCK is schooling so bad in America that a woman who just gave birth has to prepare for an exam tomorrow? @the American education system, bitch
I remember getting ready to fight a teacher because he kicked out a single mother who’s babysitter fell through. The baby wasn’t even crying. I got his ass fired.
I remember my friend taking her exam while her water was breaking, because her professor wouldn’t allow her to take the exam at a later date.
you know, maybe we shouldnt glorify this shit and start working on making it so that women can have fucking kids and not get fucked over by the system.
i was gonna say….this made me kinda sad lmao she should be resting. this isn’t “strong” it’s a sign of a failed system

me: hello yes I would like some “100% fully wool socks”
Every single website in the search results: would you like a wool blend? Polyester? Fleece? Which is cotton. Would you like a cotton blend sock?
Me: Cotton will make me cold if it’s wet. 100% wool please.
Website: this one is wool
Me: 100%?
Website: it’s % Wool.
Me: WHAT PERCENT
Website: 15%
Me: Fine, at this point as long as it’s not blended with cot-
Website: 85% cotton.
commission me for secret 100% handspun and dyed wool socks
the secret part is a bit ominous but for real send me some details
Wait, wool doesn’t make you cold if it’s wet??:/
yeah the point of wearing wool or wool blends when you’re working outdoors is so if you get wet, you stay warm. Anyone who does outdoorsy stuff in cold climates knows the phrase “cotton kills,” because cotton saps the ehat out of you once it’s wet.
Wool is far more water-resistant, especially if it’s wool with lanolin specifically made for wet work, and it’ll keep ya warm. Wool and wool blends are The vital base layers. If you’re allergic, synthetics are also doable. Just Never Cotton.
I found this on Facebook and it's actually super important:
