basically chenle & you were acquaintances

chenle invited you to go to an arcade with him & the dreamies

the whole time you were playing a pinball game

chenle thought it was cute how focused you were on the game

eventually he tapped you on the shoulder

and asked you to explain the game to him

he also asked for pointers

not that he was interested in the pinball game

he just thought you being passionate about the game was cute

he eventually got you to play one of those basketball games with him

he got a little smug after he won

but not too smug because he didn’t want you to think he was being mean

after jaemin started complaining about being tired chenle took you to the ticket prize thingie

he was like crushing on you at that point

it’d only been like 40 minutes and he already liked you

so when you were like a few tickets short from a dolphin plush you had your eyes on for the whole night

he basically threw all his tickets at you right then and there

after you got the plush he had this really prominent grin on his face

after that he invited you to a few more places with the dreamies

and then just with him

you got comfortable with each other pretty quickly

like you could be in your pajamas & your hair would be messy from just waking up

and chenle would be at your door asking if you wanted to hang out with him

he’d also be really patient w you

like if you weren’t ready

he’d sit down and watch you get ready

and chenle’d be so taken by you

like hand under his chin

while you’re just fixing up your hair

watching you pick out an outfit to wear

~ explanations ~

jeno, mark - they love being called pet names. for mark, if he was having a bad day and you called him “bub” he’d immediately feel better. he just loves pet names, he thinks its an easier way for him to show affection for you too. for jeno, i see him jokingly call you a pet name and you reciprocating it while jokingly patting his head. his breath would hitch and he’d ask for you to say it again, but he’d be caught off guard so he’d probably just like stumble over his words while asking.

renjun, chenle - they don’t like...love pet-names, necessarily but they’d probably like it if you called them a good boy thats all i’m gonna say. imagine calling either of them a pet-name + him blushing,,, especially in public like you would let him have it the whole day and he’d get mad at you for bringing it upjfjg.

jaemin, jisung - honestly they would be kind of taken back. both for different reasons, jaemin mostly because he was usually the one to initiate skinship between the both of you. jisung would stare at you for a second before awkwardly chuckling and hiding his face in embarrassment. its not that he doesn’t like pet-names, its just more so he’d like it more if it was in a more romantic scenario. he’d be kinda confused if it was just out of the blue.

haechan - i see him as thinking of pet-names as more of a joke. like if he wanted to annoy you, he’d call you a pet-name and speak in a really squeaky high voice. so if you seriously called him a pet-name one day, his first instinct would be to laugh at you or sorta just look at you like ??? so yeah. if you asked him he’d probably try to think about it more seriously but yeah

Two hundred and thirty-two days. Five thousand five hundred and sixty-eight hours. Twenty million forty-four thousand and eight hundred seconds.

That’s how long it took for Jaemin to finally snap.

Jaemin was never the jealous type. He rarely ever felt insecure about himself, especially when you were around. With you by his side, he felt like he could do anything.

But that was until you started hanging out with C/n. The warm and innocent smile you’d once show Jaemin was now for C/n. The way your eyes lit up when they entered the room made Jaemin’s heart drop.

It’s not like you stopped talking to Jaemin.

It’s just, you were in love. With someone that wasn’t him. Slowly, Jaemin became the most important person in your life and eventually turning into an afterthought. The only reason why you hadn’t completely forgot about him was because he’d initiate conversation at seemingly random times.

To say that Jaemin hadn’t caught on would just just be a lie. That’s the whole reason why Jaemin reached out to you all the time. He didn’t want you to forget about him. He was so scared of losing you. He didn’t care if you thought he was annoying, he loved you. He didn’t even care about you not loving him, he just wanted to be an option.

And thats when C/n stopped talking to you. Seemingly out of the blue. Jaemin took this as an opportunity. An opportunity to show you that he was the one. The answer to your prayers, the person that was right for you after all.

He was oblivious to it at the time, he was so blinded by love. He was so lovesick. Still agreeing to meet up with you at the field you used to occupy on the weekends, getting dinner together, walking you home after everything, he had finally realized.

He’d been through two hundred and twenty-five days of hell.

His heart hurt after every meeting, every compliment, every text message. He didn’t even know if he could call his feelings towards you love anymore. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t get you out of his mind. He had you muted on his phone.That’s when you noticed something was up.

He just wasn’t Jaemin anymore. He was just a miserable version of himself. Everytime you saw him, he barely even bothered to brush his hair or get dressed up like he used to. His former giddy attitude turned into something you could only describe as worn out. He was so cold compared to how he was just a few weeks ago.

While laying on the soft grass of the soccer field, you started getting sentimental. Jaemin looked bored. You tried to think of anything to say to make things less awkward, so you just started talking about C/n again.

“I wonder how different things would be right now if C/n liked me back. I’d probably be so much happier right now, don’t you think? I wish C/n loved me.”

Jaemin stared at you while you started going off on that tangent. He didn’t even blink before blurting out a quick

“I wish you loved me.”

You stopped midway into your sentence and turned your head towards Jaemin. He was still looking up at the clouds, but after a few seconds of you looking at him, he turned his head towards you.

It finally hit him.

After all this time, he finally said it. What he’s been dying to get off his chest. It was finally out in the open, but this isn't how he wanted it to go. He always dreamed of the perfect confession, a perfect and clear atmosphere, him shyly opening up and you running into his arms. Instead, you were looking at him with your mouth agape, questioning what to do next. Jaemin took in your expression and started chuckling under his breath.

You looked around for something, anything that could get out of of this situation. All that was in front of you was the road both you and Jaemin walked on to get there. It looked like you'd be walking back by yourself.

You sprung up on your feet, dusting off your pants and looking at the road. You apologized to Jaemin, its the very least you could do. You led him on all this time, it was embarrassing. You couldn't even look him in the eye. You felt your eyes water and your breath hitch, thats when you turned around and started frantically walking to the other side of the road, away from Jaemin.

Jaemin watched you leave. He watched the road disappear beyond the horizon, and your back disappeared shortly after as you made your way back home. He looked up at the sky as he noticed the sun slowly falling, getting closer and closer to the horizon. He raised his chin as soon as he felt a tear slowly stream down his cheek.

He refused to let himself cry. He'd spent enough time trying to explore his feelings, he couldn't handle this. Staring into the sky again, he lost track of time. He peeked at the time on his phone and realized it'd been two hours since you and him arrived to the field. He thought about you again. He knew he messed everything up with you. Even if he put his mixed emotions aside for you, you'd be ashamed to face him.

You were home and laying in your bed. Your pillowcase was stained with tears and your eyes were puffy and tired. As soon as you got home, you threw your phone on the couch and raced to your room.

Little did you know, Jaemin was trying to call you. After the first "your call has been forwarded to..." he gave up and started ranting into your voicemail.

"hi. did you get home? i know, its awkward, and i get why you're ignoring my calls. look, y/n. i know i fucked up, okay? maybe we could make it work one day. maybe in the next life. it’s okay. i’ll wait for you until then.”

His voice got shakier after every word, by the time he was done talking, he was about to break down. After the last sentence, he pressed the big red button on the bottom of the phone screen. He sat up and grabbed his phone before walking towards the same road you exited on.

After fifteen minutes of walking, rain droplets started dripping on Jaemin's back. The small drops started pouring onto his face. Eventually, the water attached itself to Jaemin's eyelashes. The boy started shivering, he didn't know if it was because of the cold air or the sadness he was engulfed in. He slowly disappeared into the horizon, shuffling his feet onto the wet road that rarely ever got rained on.

usually a soda and a bag of chips

tonight it was nothing different
