Deciding to move on into Super Mario territory now, here's something i have been working on for a few months now.
I present to you: My take on the Koopalings' real parents; Morton Koopa Sr and Lena Von Koopa!
The idea of these two came to mind by following the "The Koopalings are Bowser's ADOPTIVE children" theory/take, and wanted to make my own designs as of what the 'Lings biological parents might've looked like.
Senior is based on the fact that Morton has a "Jr" in his name, while Lena is based on the character of the same in from the very (and i mean VERY) wacky Super Mario live action film of 1993.
Morton Koopa Sr. was the childhood friend of Bowser, and a high ranked general in the army, leading the troops into battle. He was a hulking beast of a Koopa, and like his son Morton Junior, he wasn't exactly the sharpest tool in the box in terms of intelligence. However, what he lacked in brains he had it in pure, raw physical strength, which made him a powerhouse and asset to the troops, earning him his place in the army's ranks.
His wife, Lena Von Koopa was also a general, but she in turn was in charge of the Koopa Army's Magic Division, having once trained under the the Magikoopa and King Bowser's royal advisor Kamek, her skills in the mystical arts having earned her the position after years of working in the Division. Lena was vain and prideful, but cunning, intelligent and calculating as well, making her a perfect strategist and tactician. She was also known for having a cruel schtick, especially towards enemies, being given the nickname of "The Sapphire Witch" because of this.
Despite them being feared by both soldiers and enemies alike, they were surprisingly good parents to their children, and loved them all the same as much as they loved eachother.
I imagine that they would have a similar dynamic to Wish's original concept of King Magnifico and Queen Amaya; two clearly evil individuals who are madly in love with eachother and make a dangerous team. Also balance eachother out as well in terms of abilities; whereas Morton Sr is the brawn, Lena is the brains.
I have pondered and developted a lot of ideas as of what could've happened to them, but out of all of them, this one is the one i've settled with: They were both sent to Dinosaur Land a few years before Super Mario World, with the intention of taking over the whole archipelago to establish a new koopa colony in it. Yoshi and other members of his tribe go after them to face them after the rest of their people were captured and enslaved. In the climax of their final battle against Morton and Lena, Yoshi and co end up accidentally killing them both.
I'm actually thinking about making a whole, full-on story with it. It is just very fun to think about, in fact, i even made some concepts and wip scenes for it! So, if anyone's interested (probably not-), stay tuned for anything regarding it soon!
