I never guessed that in my adulthood, Iād be relating to Calvinās parents as much as I do in this comic.
Because damn ⦠Calvinās dad was so right.
This is part of an arc where their house got broken into and they have to deal with the ensuing fallout.
Calvin and Hobbes was some real shit, my dude.
Reading Calvin and Hobbes as an adult is a VERY different experience than reading it as a kid.
I always liked this arc because they were out of town when the house was robbed (I think at a wedding?) but Calvin forgot Hobbes. So when they get home and realize theyāve been robbed, Calvin is super scared Hobbes mightāve been stolen. For some reason the last panel when the parents are happy that Calvin has his buddy again just always moved me.Ā
Also this part:Ā
LOUDER
I think the mentality of "why bother doing something if you're not good at it?" feeds directly into "if you're good at it why aren't you monetizing it?". At its core I really think its about commodifying every last shred of labor and experience.
THIS
Adding that this is literally a huge reason we donāt leave unsolicited criticism on things like fanworks- fanfiction, fanart, fan crafts etc. Because thereās a LOT of people out there who are just doing this for the fun of it. Theyāre doing it for the same reason people go on walks- to feel good. And receiving crit they didnāt ask for doesnāt feel good.
ācome back with a warrantā
i felt that. i shall start using that answer. itās perfect.
Someone not responding to you right away does not mean that youāre not important to them. I know it can be hard, but other people are allowed to be busy, or even just not have the energy to respond to you. This doesnāt mean they donāt care about you.
Ahhh but when you see them active on other things?š¤
Sometimes people have the energy to be āonlineā and look at posts or whatever else, but donāt have the energy to reply to people. And thatās really valid.
so this happened to me today
fucked up some bird tried to steal your car like that
Heās not stealing, heās robin

I keep accidentally slamming my boyfriend's head with the fridge door, and one of these days it's going to hit hard enough to leave a mark and I'll have a hell of a time explaining how the fuck you do something like that by accident.
How the fuck do you do something like that by accident tho
our apartment is tiny, his computer desk is right next to the fridge, the fridge door opens a full 180 degrees and he is seated right in the danger zone.
I still domt understand how the head is the damaged area but I appreciate the explanation

4. They look cool as hell
[ID: Photo of a laminated paper sign on a wall. The title and the first word of each point are in caps. It reads:
We wear our masks in public for three reasons:
1. Humility: I donāt know if I have COVID, as people can spread the disease before they have symptoms.
2. Kindness: I donāt know if the person nearby has a child battling cancer, or cares for their elderly mom. While I might be fine, they might not.
3: Community: I want my community to thrive, businesses to stay open, employees to stay healthy. Keeping a lid on COVID helps us all!!

5. They disrupt the de facto surveillance state.
6. THREE NEW RESPIRATORY VIRUSES: Apparently thereās a ton of nasty crap to catch this fall (November 2022), and kids are especially susceptible to the new respiratory viruses going around right now. Letās not kill the kids m'kay?
7. If itās cold out, it keeps your face warm
7.a) keeping your nose warm now has scientific evidence backing up that a warm nose = stronger resistance to airborn viruses/etc.
so not only does a mask reduce the shit u put into the air, it actually *does* keep you personally more safe in a different but equally true way.
8. I don't have to regulate my facial expressions to come off as "normal" to the general public
i know its the mets, but this is the coolest shit iāve ever seen a human being do
Smoove with it tooĀ
This is the kind of shit you see in anime that shows that a certain character is stronger than other characters.Ā
āPathetic. Ā You canāt even hold the bat you dare step to the plate? Have you no respect for the sport?ā

@caw-oticdork I am CRYING about this tag
the new family drama iām obsessed with has been the saga of my eight year old cousin trying to understand how our uncle is related to our grandpa and not our grandma. the answer is our grandpa cheated on her with a nurse and had our uncle, but NO ONE wants to explain cheating and adultery to an eight year old so theyāve just been telling him to ask someone else. so far itās gone my mom -> me -> his mom -> his dad and he still is no closer to an answer. we are very quickly running low on knowledgeable adults and i cannot wait to see where he goes if that trail goes dry
my roommate weighs in on the issue
my mom brought up a good point, which is the fact that this kid is heavily religious. was named after a biblical figure and watches bible retellings for fun religious. in his mind he cannot physically comprehend how you can have a child with someone you are not married to, which is a very interesting addition to this case.
i should also add that, when the concept was first brought up to him, he went, āso was grandpa the one pregnant???ā and iām so obsessed with the fact that his brain considered mpreg before literally any other possible explanation
have i not suffered enough already. was it not enough for youtube shorts to cover me. must this be my eternal fate
