Radical Feminism is a really interesting movement and while I don't agree with most of it's ideas, I can understand where they're coming from. When I was younger it seemed to be largely defined by a hatred of Trans People (specifically trans women), and while that's still a big part of it today, it seems that (at least on Tumblr) the community has become more fleshed out.

I am a trans woman, and I can relate to a lot of the problems these women are sharing. Yet they claim we are so different and that my very existence is a threat to theirs. It's like listening to a poor white southerner complain about immigrants when his real enemy is a bunch of fucking billionaires and corrupt politicians.

Basically this post is a warning that I plan on interacting with a bunch of Rad Fems on this blog, just to satisfy a general curiosity. Tons of them claim to be open to this sort of thing so I figure why not. I'd like to hear about why my decisions over my own body are to the detriment of feminism. And to all willing to listen, I'd love to share my perspective.

I'm not trying to change anyone's mind, I just want to understand their mentality.

If you're really interested in having good-faith discussions about this topic, I think that starting off with metaphors about what radical feminism feels like (the "poor white southerners" thing) isn't productive. It's best to put aside assumptions and generalizations like that for now. Instead, read about basic radical feminist views and then present really specific questions about why those are valid or correct compared to the perspective you hold, one by one. If you're asking for real answers respectfully, you're likely to get respectful responses and you might find that the radfem positions on transgenderism and gender ideology are not as unreasonable as you initially thought.

I can tell you up front that none of our views concerning transgenderism are about hating trans people. It's about rejecting the idea that thoughts and feelings define womanhood or manhood (in the same way that "feeling like" another race doesnt make me that race, nor does "feeling like" a cat make me a cat) and it's about protecting the rights and safety of women who are having their single-sex spaces encroached upon by biological males. These spaces were sex segregated long ago because everyone understood that males pose a very real potential threat to women's safety, and you only need to look at rape statistics (99% male perps) and violent crime statistics (78%+ male perps in the USA) to understand why.

I don't personally debate this topic, but there are lots of radfems who seem to enjoy discussing it with people who are genuinely open to learning.

It was simply about how I related to many Radical Femisists in their descriptions of misogyny, and it made me curious to hear more since their descriptions of Trans Women were less than sympathetic.

Since making this post I've had a lot of very pleasant conversations with Radical Femisists and only strengthened my idea that we're not all that different. You're right to point out my ignorance of the whole community, I'm not an expert in people who dislike me.

I read the article you linked, the reports of violence in it are upsetting. However I'm not going to act like this is a reputable source. It's language is clearly biased against people like me, and while you claim that Radical Femisists/ Gender Criticals aren't antagonizing trans people on the street (a claim I never made) half of these stories involve discussion of bills that the removal / passing of would immediately harm trans people, thus, they're going to get pissed about it and try to disrupt that. I condemn any violence used but half of this isn't even violence, it's people getting angry and screaming at people who are also angry and screaming.

I really am happy to talk about this with anyone who actually read the post but you and so many others are just ignoring everything I say to talk about bathrooms. I've used the women's restroom like three times in my life, every time was because there wasn't a gender neutral option. Going into the men's increases my risk of being sexually assaulted, so my choices are either risk that, piss myself in public, or just use the womens. I'm done pretending like that's an entitled thing to do. Like you see how that's an impossible choice for me to make right? Second tweet: calling a woman a “failed” woman because she has endometriosis, which affects her uterus. (I thought TRAs say a woman isn’t her reproductive system 🤔 how is she a failed woman then?). Claiming he (a male) has better estrogen.

Third tweet: again calling a woman they don’t like “bitch”. Saying she can’t be feminist because her reproductive system “doesn’t work properly”. Attacking her for having endo and being a women essentially.

Fourth tweet: I don’t think I have to explain this one but I will. An unwanted sexually vulgar tweet, telling her to masturbate to trans women. Essentially also calling her ugly and saying him (a male) is hotter than her.

Fifth photo part one: calling her a cunt. Again, calling her a failed woman. In that same sentence he basically said “stay on your failed woman keyboard grind” which also translates to “know your place and shut up”. Calling her an “ugly ass bitch”. Wishing her death from her reproductive system. Again calling her reproductive system “failed”

Fifth photo part 2: saying men will have more power than women (“terfs have no power over us”). Telling her that no one will care or listen to her even if she’s the victim. The last sexually charged tweet by telling her that he’s going to have sex.

This is what male socialization does. These tweets scream male socialization. Do some women do some of the things I mentioned too?? Of course but not to this extent because women are told to “shut up and stay in our place”. At most women block and leave the discussion. This MALE harassed a woman and called her a failed woman because she didn’t bend over backwards for a male.

Radfems regularly condemn the use of trans specific slurs (not just outside the community, also whenever gender critical women use them) but if you are a gender essentialist, you can use sex based slurs like “cunt” and “bitch” that don’t apply to you, and no one will think it’s hate speech. I think this is one of the most notable parts of that whole dumpster fire of a comment section. Trans women literally think they’re oppressed because… they’re criticized. To them, a cis woman criticizing them is on the same level, or worse, as actual women being raped, stalked, killed. The idea of criticism being oppression is so excruciatingly male. It’s just another way trans women behave the exact same way as other men.

the fact they're so consumed by the idea that all terfs must be attracted to them and the fact they're so obsessed with breaking a woman's spirit, to submit to them and give up on the things she wholeheartedly believes in reminds me of the type of men that purposefully go for women with opposite values than them, because it's fun for them to trap them in toxic marriages or relationships, manipulate them into resigning their own and taking on their religion, ask them to give up her job to stay home, stop doing the things she's always done before, like going out clubbing (even tho he first met her in a club) and slowly turning her into dependant, submissive woman.

Then they feel like they have accomplished their goal of shaping a woman into their own ideal, breaking her character in the process. He doesn't care about the pain he causes her.

Same with the males in these screenshots. Those are not only stupid posts but real confessions about how they feel about women in general and their entitlement and objectification of women's bodies. They are no different, not worse, not better, than the men I described before. Only difference is they inject themselves with artificial hormones.

whatever you think of gender critical feminists and trans people, the way this violence is framed--sexually--is fucking sick. as a black lesbian, i sometimes experience extreme feelings of alienation and even anger when i'm confronted by white supremacy and homophobia, but i haven't ever thought, "wow, i'd love to rape a nazi" or even "all homophobic people are secretly gay", the latter being something the author is clearly implying with regard to transwoman and TERFs.

this actually reminds me of the discussion around the writing of eldridge cleaver, a black panther and convicted rapist who raped black and white women as "revenge" for white supremacy. he did this as political praxis, the same way fucking and killing TERFs is framed in this novel. cleaver did renounce his view that rape is an appropriate tool for revenge, so when his work is taught now this aspect of his early political philosophy is usually just glossed over. but it happened, and he, for a time, glorified it. men can get away with absolutely insane shit. so, not only does this "horror novel" revel in violently misogynistic imagery, it also dwells on the "taboo" (clearly a fetish, for the author) theme of corrective rape as punishment and praxis.
