Static Electricity

I yearn for minutes long past,

For days in forgotten sunshine

Long before I made all of these

Voltage controlled decisions.

Each path chosen with a series of

Dials, switches and rusted levers,

Methodically and surgically

Shifting through life like a

Robot designed to be studied.

Nonetheless, I am human.

Electrically controlled,

But Mother Nature’s love

Guides me from within.

Distance

The inevitable severance of blood from bone

Leaves a longing I cannot control.

Oh how I desire to be normal and

Not a shadowed figure of my former self.

A lantern’s light flickering in the wind

Reminds me of love and friendships

I’ve lost to space and time and grime,

While my empty veins run from the flame.

Inch by hellish inch I try

To claw myself out of the pit

I dug for myself. Deeply,

Desperately.

Breath by ragged breath I inhale

Gravel and mud and clay,

Dust and dirt, suffocating,

Sacrificial.

With each passing day I spend

Buried beneath passing glances,

The sky illuminates while

I climb deeper below and

Mumble “Ad Astra!” In defiance of

Of my fate.

Garden Walk

I quietly stroll down

Overgrown paths,

Admiring my flowers

And my trees.

The sun shining through

Leaves me with a warmth

I’ve not felt in quite some time.

As my body ages with the earth,

Someday my walk will end,

But while I remain breathing

My soul blooms with new ambition.

Coal Mine

75 degrees on the 4th of February,

I’m afraid it’s too late to

acknowledge the canary.

A lifeless and quiet

Imminent warning,

A bird in a cage,

A mother in mourning.

Fires and

Strikers and

Prayers, oh my!

Deniers, and liars,

“Who cares, we die!”

Well not so soon,

I’d like to think,

But that’s wishful thinking

On the brink.

Abandoned

Cobwebs in my skull,

Dust on the silverware,

Life isn’t fair I’m told,

Why should I even care?

Spring melting frozen water,

A growth breaking through the earth,

My anger’s only getting hotter, but

I’m in control for what it’s worth.

Someday I’ll come to my senses,

And set fire to all I own,

Until then I’m left defenseless,

Quietly frozen to the bone.

Resolutions

With sore muscles, funny dreams,

And a new brain it seems,

I welcome January with open arms.

It’s about time you arrived.

Arrival

Long lasting inner peace,

We made it!

Look up to the stars,

See the swirling galaxies

While butterflies flutter by

Escaping from my empty stomach.

Aren’t we surrounded by

Such a wonderful ever expanding

Place to call home?

Above the Clouds

Radio static and cracked leather,

We cruise above

the clouds together,

In a vibrant nostalgia of

Purples and pinks,

Thrust back in time

Before eyes blink.

Happily trapped

we float abound,

Peacefully protected

from the sound,

Of everything expected

To keep our thoughts infected

With a future we don’t want around.

Induction

Hearts beat at synchronous speeds,

A magnetism between strangers.

Connections among stars and sea,

And a heightened sense of danger.

We observe with eyes of old,

Remembering all we see.

Nature replies with love so bold,

And the resonance between leaves.

Diseased

My ribcage rattles

With shallow breath,

My weak lungs swell

Engaged with death.

My diseased body rots

From the inside out, so

Plant me in the earth

That I may sprout.

How is it going?

Solid question, work and school and a lack of sleep have all quickly burnt my brain out and made life difficult, but I have some pretty great friends who, even though they’re busy as well, I know I can rely on if I need them so overall I’d say it’s going well enough to keep going, thank you for asking!

Night Light

You are moonlight.

A reflection revealing

Mountains in shadows.

You are guidance in flight,

A hug after a fight, a radiance

admired by owls and tired eyes,

And a vibrant painting in cold skies

Whose brush strokes in the night

Are a warm and welcome sight.

I am starlight.

A visual clarity

In the darkest night.

A glow of temerity

So grand and so bright that

My fire consumes the universe.

You are sunlight.

A loving warmth given

When I am angry and frigid.

You are a bright and beautiful

I forget to count, and the reason
