I was going to say, this is a great idea because knowing that an innocent life hung in the balance, people would be less likely to elect someone like the current guy, who wouldn’t think twice before plunging the knife in.
But then I realized, the people who voted for the current guy, and a good number of those who didn’t vote for him but failed to vote for his opponent, would probably cheer on the death of the code-holder. They’d probably cheer even more loudly depending on the code-holder’s skin color, sex/gender, sexual orientation, disability status, political affiliation, religious beliefs, ethnic and socioeconomic background, marital status, occupation, favorite sports team, etc.
Pardon my pessimism; it comes with the insomnia.
