oh boy oh gee!!!!! ipods are lovely gadgets!!!! they came in four main types: the classic line, the nano line, the shuffle line and the touch line, with two “mini” ipods being produced earlier in the product’s history. the classics were the larger ipods with more memory, the nanos and shuffles were smaller ipods meant to be as portable as possible, with the shuffles having the ridiculous gimmick of having no screen and only playing your entire library on shuffle, and the touches were really just iphones that couldn’t make calls.
the best ipods to buy at the moment would probably be the 5th gen classic (more often referred to as the ipod video), the 3rd gen nano and any of the minis, since these are all relatively easy to repair, and the former two have the lovely ability to play video! you can find classics for around a hundred bucks on ebay, but it’s common to find good deals on less popular secondhand sites (I got my ipod video for only 95 on shopgoodwill)
as for audio quality, the 5th and “7th” gen (really just a revised 6th) classics are considered to have the best quality, but all of them sound pretty alright to me 🤷♀️
you can find quality replacement parts at elite obsolete electronics’ website! they sell new aftermarket parts so you don’t need to track down probably faulty batteries from twenty years ago. im pretty sure they do free refunds if there’s any problems with your product too. they even sell brand new custom housings in a ton of colors.
lastly there’s a huge modding scene for ipods, some common mods include solid state storage and bluetooth capabilities, i don’t know too much about it but it’s definitely really cool and worth checking out!!!!
oh also. cnvmp3 and spotidownloader will get you all your music. sometimes they glitch out but it’s manageable, other than that they’re super quick and convenient
