@kiridune
its really unfortunate that padme no longer used the body double approach to security after aotc because the concept of the queen of fakeout deaths being married to the guy who loses his shit at the thought of her dying is honestly the wildest fucking thing and i think it's underutilised. let's give anakin a few trial runs before his big breakdown ok. maybe seeing padme getting assassinated live on space tv on a monthly basis will let him microdose on acceptance and inner peace. he can get into a different stage of grief each time and maybe when rots rolls around he will be fine
As a Greek, in response to the current controversy about Matt Damon being cast as Odysseus, I'd just like to share that one of the moments that changed my brain chemistry as a kid was reading a novelized version of the Odyssey and coming across the following description of Odysseus when Circe sees him for the first time and thinks he's hot: "his hair curled like a clematis and his eyes were very brown".
So may I present my own casting choice for Odysseus:
Excuse me???
you are right and you should say it.
Is this the face of a man who would put his own infant in front of a plow to avoid going to war?
Absolutely not
You know who would try that shit?
Is this the face of a man who would defy the very gods to get home to his wife?
You know who would defy the gods just to show he could get away with it?
The last thing Penelope's suitors ever see:
I have so many questions
So I've been a massive fan of your silm fics for a while and I was wondering if you've ever listened to Willing and Able by Noah Kahan? Because all I've been able to think about when I hear it is Feanor and Fingolfin and I have no one to talk about it with😭
Thank you so much!
I had never heard the song before, but I listened to it just now, and you are absolutely right - it is a very Feanor and Fingolfin song. I especially like the lines about how "Oh, I'll stay here 'til morning/Oh, we can fight like we used to fight." Because the tone is so wistful. It's not a defiant declaration that he's prepared to fight; it's an offer to fight, in the same way someone might offer to play a childhood game again. I always like exploring Feanor fighting with Fingolfin as both a very genuine expression of his anger . . . and at the same time his refusal to let go of the relationship entirely. And on the flip side, I like to view Fingolfin arriving in Beleriand to find Feanor gone and being furious that not only has his brother done all the things he's done, now he's gone and put himself beyond where they can even properly fight about it.
So, yes, I very much agree; it's a great song for them!
Being from Greece makes a lot of the arguments people give on why Israel should be destroyed sound even more ridiculous and weird. (especially when these people are also fellow greeks) ''Israel is an ethno state!!!''- You mean a nation state, and yes, so is Greece
''The founding of Israel was based on displacement of Palestinians''- Look, I don't want to minimize that at all because people losing their homes is fucking terrible but that doesn't mean the solution is expelling Israelis now. There was a population exchange between Greece and Tuurkey in 1922. Both sides ethnically cleansed people. It was a terrible thing to do. But both Turkey and Greece exist now as two seperate states with clearly defined borders (if you ignore some shit erdogan tries to pull in the agean). And you don't question Greece's or Turkey's right to not be wiped off.
''Israeli identity is fake because it was based on smth that happened 3000 years ago!!!''- Ok sorry to break it to you but us Greeks have made our entire national identity revolve around who we were 3000 years ago. And if you want to argue abt fakeness of identity I would argue ours was a less organic one. Jewish people maintained the same religion and basic belief systems for 3000 years. They continuously felt the connection with Eretz Yisrael. We switched to Orthodox christianity from whatever 12 god shit we had, we lost most of our literacy that allowed us to keep tpuch with ancient texts, we embraced so many customs from the Ottomans and YET it was still valid when we tried to reclaim our ancient greek identity to build a nation partly on the basis of that
''European colonial powers helped prop up Israel which means it is an imperialistic state!''- Do you think Greece got independence or gained more land purely through OUR military strength lol?
BTW one of the reasons i support a 2 state solution so much is bcs I think us and Turkey did a relatively fine job at accepting that although both turkish and greek populations have historically resided in both greek areas and asia minor (which today is turkey) there needs to be a compromise so that we both live in peace.
these are more insulting that what you find on incel forums
Okay that’s skillz
Training herding dogs side of tumblr, please explain
It's called shedding. Sometimes you need to single out some animals from others in the herd for some reason, this lets you do it in a field relatively quickly and with less stress for the animals compare to other methods (like running them all through a chute or a race).
It's a higher level sheepdog skill, they usually do it in trials too.
There's a cool video on it here
Dogs with jobs are always superb but I'm especially delighted to see that the Mission Impossible theme still has its uses. 💜
Just finished reading Brandon Sanderson's Isles of the Emberdark and it has reaffirmed my love for Sixth of Dusk for being so absolutely hilariously unbothered by the weirdness of the Cosmere.
Dusk: *Experiences horrors beyond his comprehension* I don't get it.
Dajer: The Cosmere is far larger than your primitive brain can comprehend
Dusk: Yeah dumbass, so are some fish back home, what's your point?
Dusk: *Sees a god of myth and legend* *PICKS UP HARPOON*
Starling: Dusk! Are you ok? That almost killed you!
Dusk: A lot of things have almost killed me, what makes this one special?
The man simply cannot be bothered with being bothered.
The fun thing about Brandon Sanderson's magic systems is that, like ttrpg players, his characters are constantly trying to exploit the system in novel and insane ways.
What do I have to roll to get around the connection check on these metal minds?
I want to make a bond with the spirit without making any oaths. Just, like, as friends.
What if I fed the magic worms to a different kind of bird?
I'm going to use these deadly, explosive spores to make a gun, which is also deadly and explosive, so it shouldn't be that hard.
I'd like to put even more points into my rock stacking modifier. I want even a crit fail to count as a nat 106.
A YA romantasy writer filed suit against another writer for copyright infringement, and as is always the case with these things, she padded her claims with delusionally spurious examples. The judge issued a 160-page ruling against the plaintiff where you can tell from the start how resentful they (or whatever clerk actually did the work) are to have been forced by duty to have read the works in question.
"Alaska is a place known to the public, so setting a novel in a Alaska is not copyrightable."
I used to consider myself a leftist. I no longer do.
"What made you change?"
Nothing. I still hold the same beliefs, the same values, the same morals. I'm still the same person I was when I attended Pride, when I volunteered, when I was loudly fighting racism, sexism, and inequality.
But at some point you found a dusty old sign in your grandfather's attic. You gave it a lick of paint and proudly placed it on the front door.
"NO ZIONISTS ALLOWED"
it reads. "Don't worry" you told me. "We like you. We just mean the racists, the fascists, the evil ones. We don't mean you. You're one of the good ones."
But the thing is, I'm not stupid. And you didn't do a very good job. The paint has already begun to peel, and the original words are peeking through.
"NO JEWS ALLOWED"
Stop dehumanizing.
I mean it. Stop putting quotes around the word people when describing those who are bad or evil. Stop calling them "things." You're letting them off the hook. People do wicked things; that doesn't make them less of a person, because people are indeed capable of wickedness.
It doesn’t matter what political party, religion, ethnicity, nationality, age, or gender you are, you NEED to be able to acknowledge the humanity of those around you. Yes, even the people you don’t like. Yes, even the people you disagree with. Yes, even the people you would literally rather chew broken glass than spend time with.
We’re all people. We’re all the same on that basic, fundamental level. Even when we have absolutely nothing else in common, we have that.
we poke fun at obi-wan for saying "sith lords are our specialty" and then getting his ass kicked by dooku, but in fairness, he was at the time the only person in living memory to have actually killed a sith. he showed remarkable humility honestly.
OP these tags are amazing, please
EXACTLY EXACTLY EXACTLY
"But it's ok, I can get high and watch my sports and gamble on them"
But Venezuela didn’t do the real socialism, it’ll be different this time.
Hot take, but even if you ARE punching up (instead of punching sideways at a group that is in the same boat as you), there's a limit to what you can say without sounding like a violent facist but woke this time.
Making fun of a group of people that are privileged over you is one thing, but wishing non-cartoonish violence and death on them ("they should fall off a cliff" vs. "they should be wiped out"), wishing sexual violence on them, dehumanising them, claiming that they're less capable of creating art or living meaningful lives, saying that their relationships are inherently shallow and fake - these things are fucked up. I understand venting and saying extreme things when in pain, but when you find yourself regularly posting about wanting certain people tortured and killed, you need to examine that.
When the only thing stopping you from completely dehumanising someone is your own judgement regarding their privilege level relative to yours, you are not a safe person to be around.
"convince your followers that their Oppressor Class (whether real or imagined) is less deserving of human rights" is the oldest and most reliable trick in the book to incite mass violence, and you're not immune to it because you're a Good Person with Correct Opinions. you will continue to be a potential breeding ground for fascist thought until you stop dehumanizing people in any context, regardless of whether they deserve it or not, or how serious you are. there can be no acceptable targets.
Pretty sure most genocides in history, including the Holocaust, were justified with "we're punching up." 🤣 "We're killing our oppressors" has always been a convenient excuse to justify atrocities.
It's pretty much the standard thing, it couples in with the 'X group is simultaneously stronger than us and weaker than us' view that is used to justify all forms of hate.
