Landmark German ruling declares Google's AI Overviews are Google's own words and makes it liable for false answers
https://the-decoder.com/landmark-german-ruling-declares-googles-ai-overviews-are-googles-own-words-and-makes-it-liable-for-false-answers/
The Regional Court of Munich hit Google with a temporary injunction barring the company from spreading false claims about two Munich-based publishers through its AI-generated search overviews (case no. 26 O 869/26). The court classified Google as a direct infringer because the "AI overview" is its own content, not just a list of search results.
Google's AI overviews had falsely tied two publishing companies to scams, subscription traps, and shady business practices for certain search queries. According to the court, the AI mixed up information about other, genuinely sketchy companies with the plaintiffs and drew connections that didn't appear in any of the linked sources...
The court drew a parallel to press law, where publishers are liable for teasers that are understandable on their own, even if readers never read the full article. Google's own argument would also "significantly diminish" the benefit of the feature, the court noted, if the overview were "generally recognized as unreliable."
The court also pointed to a protection gap. If Google were only liable for obvious violations, victims would have no real legal recourse when the AI makes false claims. The third parties whose websites served as sources hadn't even made the statements in question. So victims couldn't sue the sources, and under existing rules they couldn't effectively sue Google either.
As a result, Google couldn't invoke host provider protections under the Digital Services Act or fall back on the standard notice-and-take-down process for search engines.
As if the rest wasn't bad enough for Google, the court also went after free speech protection for AI-generated content. An AI's opinion is "not the expression of an acquired conviction of the persons expressing it, but the result of an algorithm," the court wrote.
Offering AI-powered research is "above all an expression of Google's business activities" and "at most a secondary expression of an interest in being able to freely express one's opinion and beliefs."

Simple but interesting network name. Pleasing to the mind and spirit
If staff reformed the ban system to stop banning trans women and used the resulting good will to re-introduce pornography, this site would become a juggernaut. It would swallow Twitter whole.
I don't know who my intended audience is here, so whoever needs to hear this, I am begging you to learn to participate in conversations that are about things you aren't interested in.
Part of socializing and having friends is being a good listener even when you don't actually give a shit about the subject.
Your are hurting other people's feelings when you bluntly respond with "Anyway..." and then change the topic.
It can not always be about your preferred topic.
You are being rude. Yes, even if you are neurodivergent. You can be both autistic and rude.

REPORT THIS PIECE OF SHIT AND GET HIS MEDICAL LICENSE REVOCED!
when they think we’re mutilating ourselves to the point that they pose as SRS doctors and literally mutilate us for their agenda. cis ppl don’t forget this
topsurgery.net is a site with lots of before + after pics categorised by surgeon. I encourage everyone with other resources on srs surgeons and their results to share them here, for mtf/mtx surgeries too please
i think something that people forget when they blindly cheer on Three handing out the code to break the GovMod, is that there is a responsibility owed to those freed units. Three is not mature enough in its development to have a plan, or to fully understand what might happen to those units once freed.
The freed unit we meet in Platform Decay has no real context for anything other than MB’s log. It has no support and is so obviously a rogue SecUnit that it’s miraculous it wasn’t killed (honestly, the only reason it wasn’t killed was because it ran into MB)! Three didn’t even think to include the helpful additional codes MB gives the unit as a parting gift.
The fact of the matter is that despite having biases, I think Murderbot is very thoughtful and realistic about what’s possible. It feels very deeply for the units it encounters (hence why it has offered in the past). It doesn’t want these units harmed!
Not to mention the fact it strikes me as a bad thing for corporates to get their hands on a unit with a jailbroken GovMod.
I just think this is a more nuanced conversation than “Comrade Three the Revolutionary” and Murderbot “internalized biases” SecUnit. Three is really early on in its development. way earlier than when we met MB back in All Systems Red. I think it’s important to consider that immaturity

That comment is spot on AND sciatica stretches are legit. The best treatment for sciatica is get stretchy.
Signed: Willem Defoe fan with sciatica
For anyone who doesn’t know, Sciatica is pain due to compression of the sciatic nerve, which runs from your buttocks down the back of your leg. The reason this stretch is helpful is because the sciatic nerve, after leaving your spinal cord, immediately runs just underneath - and may get compressed by - the Piriformis muscle deep in your buttcheek, which helps you externally rotate your hip. (If the muscle is super tight, your toes on that side might actually point further out when you lie down compared to the toes on your other foot, jsyk).
If the above stretch ain’t compatible with you for reasons like having bitch ass knees, here are some alternative and amazing stretches for the muscle in order of easiest to hardest (but imo least to most helpful) to perform:
However, just keep in mind that none of these stretches will help you if you have a herniated disc, which compresses the nerve roots that protrude from the spine itself! For that you’ll for sure need some different medical intervention.
Have fun!
there are too many things happening this summer that i'm thinking we are going to need an extra 6-12 months of june and possibly another 3-4 months of july. probably no extra august as the problem should hopefully sort itself out by then. we are also looking into extending the day night cycle to 55 hours and extending the human lifespan to 10000 years.
happy pride month <33
