the most exciting part of coi to me is james’s inevitable realization that ‘acting like i’m in love with cordelia’ has slowly shifted to ‘i’m not quite sure if i’m acting anymore.’ when the ‘only in public’ tenderness between the two of them starts happening naturally. when he’s hanging out with the thieves talking about what he’s going to do after cordelia breaks off the engagement and has a momentary lapse where he forgets that the engagement isn’t real. when james is talking to cordelia and intertwines their hands without even thinking about it. when he realizes that everything feels more real now, when he starts actively trying to be around cordelia as much as he can, when he’s up at night and can’t stop thinking about her.

of course, james has always been in love with cordelia, but due to a certain bracelet, he doesn’t know it yet. and i can’t wait for the slap in the face that is james herondale realizing maybe, just maybe, he’s been in love with cordelia this entire time. the big question is, by that time, if he’ll be too late to do anything about it.

A Great Expectations / The Last Hours Post

oof fun time to remember tlh is based on great expectations in which our main character (pip/james) has been “in love” with a cold, distant girl (grace/estella) but at one point he actually tries to marry a different, kinder girl who was in love with him (biddy/cordelia) but by the time he comes to his senses she is already married to his brother figure (joe/matthew) i HATE it here

HOWEVER tlh is a loose adaptation. tid was also a loose adaptation, a notable difference being that jem doesn’t actually die like sydney does in a tale of two cities. a lot of pip/james’s wants to be with estella/grace have to do with his own upbringing and social class. the gracelet in tlh makes the story entirely different as we can see that without it, he wants to be with cordelia, and he will probably want to be with her after it is taken off permanently. i personally don’t think cassie is going to have poor james end up alone, as cordelia is his first and, knowing herondales, only love. more than likely we will end coi with james braceletless and in love with cordelia, except cordelia, who has said before she’d be willing to anger or hurt him to make him safe, will probably have done something so they can’t be together. she might get with matthew, and even though i doubt that for numerous reasons, it would kind of fit with great expectations in terms of joe and biddy getting together for NO REASON. i’m honestly betting on cordelia breaking off the engagement along with possibly being forced to move back to the country, but that’s just me. lol this was way longer than i intended i just wanted to mention some points.

btw also miss havisham aka tatiana dies in great expectations from burning alive in front of pip/james... and cordelia and james are both often comparing each other to fire... and james is known to have set the blackthorn’s stuff on fire before... so what i’m trying to say is... james (or cordelia) might kill tatiana blackthorn there’s hope lads.
