something that is so important to me about vox is that he's an invasive creep and a violent sadist who will gleefully hurt people on purpose and has committed countless atrocities on both small and large scales—but he is not, as a rule, physically threatening. he could be! this isn't a function of him being weak or unable to overpower people, it's a preference. the only people Vox shows any interest in personally brutalizing are Alastor and Angel Dust, both of whom he has an intense personal grudge against. they're also, as far as I remember, the only two people he's ever actually assaulted with his own hands (at least as a demon—brighter doesn't qualify and we're not acknowledging it), and even then only a couple of times, which is interesting given that his propensity for inappropriate, invasive touch is literally a key plot point. for the most part when Vox attacks people he does so through his wires, which I think should be taken as a kind of visual symbolism for the one step of remove he keeps between him and his victims. he's the executive who just consigned your family and countless others to death by signing a piece of paper, he's the eyes on the other side of the screen paying to see your degradation, he's the debt-collector hiring people to come to your home and the reactionary influencer inspiring his audience to commit hate crimes. he gets off to watching people suffer, not torturing them himself, though he's happy to orchestrate the creation of new material. and of course this guy is canonically attracted to valentino and alastor, two characters who represent much more direct and personal forms of physical violence

incidentally this is also something I think should be taken into account when we consider Alastor's captivity and how little Vox took advantage it given the kind of leeway he was given. While I do think there were a lot of factors going into that, many of which had to do with his personal relationship with and perception of Alastor, it's also important that Vox is just... not that into physically torturing people. Seeing people physically tortured, sure, but imo it's a testament to how extreme and intimate his grudge against Alastor is that he goes out of his way to inflict physical pain at all. Instead, the first thing Vox does is publically humiliate him as thoroughly as possible, which a lot of people seem to interpret as some kind of subconscious mercy, but like... y'all. This is the guy who experiences a total collapse of his public reputation and immediately responds by trying to kill himself and everyone else. Vox's preferred forms of sadism are social and emotional in nature because social and emotional suffering is what scares Vox the most. Ruining Alastor's reputation was the worst and cruelest thing Vox could imagine doing to him—anything after that was inevitably going to be step down in his mind. As far as Vox is concerned, once you've been turned into a pariah or a joke, you might as well just fucking die.

I’d like to add this photo I took last night in Victoria of the statue of Captain Cook. Though I myself am not indigenous, I 100% agree that these murderers, kidnappers and rapists shouldn’t have huge statues and plaques that decorate them and say how “great” they were.

Here’s another photo of the legislative assembly from yesterday. Later on there were more items, candles and signs at the memorial, as well as a big poster with 1505 painted on it but I didn’t get a picture

I had seen the first picture of the church, but not the second.

I went to a “Cancel Canada Day” event and burst into tears - not because I was surprised to learn of the unmarked graves (survivors told us they were there. Our government pushed it aside, and we let them), but because seeing all the people gathered in mourning drove it home: They. Were. Children.

This is my country’s legacy - and it’s not history. The last schools closed during my lifetime. My Father went to school with students who lived at the local residential school, after it was changed to a boarding house (read: holding centre) for indigenous youth who went to local schools.

They were all children, injured, abused, and killed in my country’s attempt to erase them. I want the world to see this and hold the state accountable to *active* reconciliation> I mean we could at least truly adopt UNDRIP in action instead of words for god’s sake.
