“Awww, where’s your sense of style, Helvar? No fun in assassination if there isn’t some panache to it. How are you planning on wearing his face if it’s still attached to his body?”
Matthias felt his fists tighten, the urge to throttle Brekker growing stronger by the second. These men didn’t deserve to be collateral in whatever sick game the demon boy played at. They may not quite have been his rightful brothers, but they were his countrymen nonetheless. They hadn’t agreed to play his games.
“Inej said none of them had to die,” he growled, taking an almost involuntary step toward the thief.
“Then you better pray to whatever snow god it is you believe in that none of them get in my way,” the boy practically purred. He gave his knife one last twirl, then winked at Matthias.
“Catch you at the harbor, soldier boy.”
