literally ok so not a funny story but kind of funny? when I was nine I encountered rape in a book and I was like hey mom what’s this mean and she explained it and I was like oh. gross. and then like two weeks later a girl on the bus abruptly disclosed her csa and we were all like ????? what ???? but I was like wait hang on there’s a word for that ☝️🤓 and explained what it meant and that it was illegal and that you could talk to a teacher or my mom if it had happened to you and everyone was like ohhhhh I see I see and very somberly comforted the girl (she was safe she was removed from her home and living with my neighbor at the time so it wasn’t Urgent)

I think about this scene from the Weiss anthology a lot.. I really do believe Weiss absolutely says stuff like this all the time and no one even bats an eye cause she says it so casually XD I’m kind of obsessed with the “You’re so sweet Ruby, just like sugar.” line, I have it plastered everywhere on all my socials..

OP it is absolutely vital that you open comms with your pilot and say his name. maybe mention something about the ace up his sleeve or whatever. that should buy him enough time to set his mech to self-destruct or launch his signature weapon. if he can time it right he'll be able to eject just as the explosion covers his escape.

he might survive with an evil-looking scar and a new thirst for revenge. better than nothing.

listen i'm a character designer and animator. i get the distain for cartoon characters getting hit by the gritty realism beam.

but sometimes gritty realism beam looks cool as hell and is intentional as hell. especially if it's to fit a specific genre like 1980s space opera, or explore creative design choices like incorporating digitigrade legs or winged arms for your anthro characters. your jokes about "ewww they look like gross rotting animals" bore me.

if you by any chance wonder just how insane I am: I animated the whole thing last night out of nowhere. Just sat down at 9pm for a quick drawing sesh and didn't raise my head till 2am (I did take a break to record myself spinning a pillow for a reference, probably the only reason my back is still functioning)

first sketch. just basic poses and emotion (and clothes and hair and-)

first rough. Sun's hair felt a little off, so I decided to FINALLY go to sleep and see if I could fix it the next day..

..and I think I did. It's definitely more flowy, just the way I like it. I also added a little more frames for Sky in the beginning
