I don’t even like Jimmy Kimmel’s unfunny ass but ABC firing him is so alarming. They’re coming for the mid white men. We’re toast.
They characterized his description of the CK shooter as MAGA as “hate speech.” The FCC chair openly threatened ABC saying they can do this “the easy way or the hard way,” and ABC caved almost immediately.
This is wildly fucked up.
I can’t stress enough how mild Jimmy’s comments were on the situation and how deeply, deeply terrifying the reaction has been.
I know this isn't directly related, but I do think it's important context to add:
After CBS cancelled Stephen Colbert, Donald Trump immediately tweeted that Jimmy Kimmel was next.
That happened less than a month ago.
I don't think that and his firing over Kirk are unrelated events.
We are in a country where free speech is actively being repressed.
The FCC chair is a trump appointee btw. Some of this is people being scared for their own jobs and complying, but some of it - like the FCC chair’s threats - is institutional reinforcement from loyal fascists.
The reaction to Kirk’s death has been unhinged and alarmingly smoothly coordinated. Any reaction or mention of him has been used as an excuse to remove even the mildest critics from public view, whether from left leaning programs on tv or your uncle getting dogpiled on for a Facebook post. The flags at half mast and the government paying respect to him is underlining the media response and who it’s coming from, and who it’s coming for.
If people don’t express outrage, if they don’t protest companies like ABC and CBS and MSNBC, they’ll walk all over anything we have left.
my favorite part of the week is when we watch a guy turn chocolate into a fucking bike and we have to just accept that it happened.

- person who watched me stomp round the beach singing a made up song about breakfast foods to name a cat after and suggested more breakfast foods that would be good cat names
- guy who started a dance off with everyone across the road while waiting for the lights to change
- very tiny girl at the pharmacy interviewing everyone in the queue and every single one of us in turn sat down and answered this toddler's questions like we were on Letterman
The three pillars of humanity, in no particular order, are Joy, Absurdity, and Sharing

It's a little surprising that the "Monday's child is fair of face" nursery rhyme never caught on as an arbitrary personality-assigner in the same way astrology did. It makes the same amount of sense.
Imagine people going around saying "yeah I could never date a Wednesday child, they're wired to be miserable and emotionally draining and as a Friday child I know I'd end up doing so much emotional labour for them"
