@luonnoslurks
Last year JK Rowling personally funded a group called Sex Matters to amend UK law so that trans women *overnight* went from legally women to legally men. This has resulted in mass exclusion of the trans community from numerous organizations, along with ongoing violent assaults on both trans and cis women alike.
With the new Harry Potter series she will be making a reported $20 million per-season renewal + other performance dependent royalties. She has been open across multiple interviews regarding her intentions to use said funds to push forth even more trans targeted legislation in the years to come.
This isnât a âshe gets paid no matter whatâ situation. The more eyeballs on this show the more money she has to actively harm vulnerable communities. By engaging with it you are directly supporting this and otherwise making a conscious choice to consume HP over doing the literal very least possible to not destroy the lives of trans people across the world.
If my stating the objective facts above upsets you then feel free to unfriend and move along. Your nostalgia-goggles feelings for a tired, problematic franchise mean nothing to me compared to the welfare of my trans friends and loved ones."
If you care more about badly written children's books and imaginary wizards more than you do about real people in the real world do it far the fuck away from me.
Don't try to be in my life.
In fact, you are cordially invited to eat shit and die.

The other day I told a friend of mine that I never forget to take my ADHD meds because I fucking love my ADHD meds. I'm in my late 30s, I didn't finally get a diagnosis and meds until less than two years ago, and they have changed my entire life.
And he raised his eyebrow at me. We'd been discussing addictive medications a few minutes before, like the Tramadol I finally got from the pain specialist to take once a week or so to give me a break from my chronic pain, so I reassured him that methylpenidate (Ritalin/Concerta) is not addictive (at least not in people with ADHD).
His response? To raise his eyebrow even harder and say "Well it sure SOUNDS like it's addictive!"
And I had to explain to this man - who works in a healthcare related job by the way - that just because medication makes you feel good and helps you, just because you look forward to taking it, that doesn't make it addictive or dangerous. And he wasn't convinced.
The simple fact that I was excited to take a daily pill that has literally changed my life, after decades of fighting to get that medication, made him think I shouldn't be taking it so often. That it must inherently be dangerous.
I'm not even in America, but I'm pretty sure this attitude began there and then spread over here to Europe. This Puritan idea of "if something feels good, you must beware of it. Pleasure is dangerous, it is sinful, it is addiction, it is evil."
I know too many people who subconsciously believe that pleasure = addictive = dangerous = bad. Joy is a slippery slope to hell.
So here is your reminder for today that you don't need to be afraid of feeling good. If something improves your life, use it. Even if it is addictive - learn what that addiction means, whether the addiction is inherently dangerous or not, and whether the benefits outweigh the drawbacks and risks.
My ADHD meds are, in fact, not addictive. But I will take them every day because they make my life orders of magnitude easier. I will enjoy them every time I take them.
My tramadol is addictive. I will still take it. I will keep it on a schedule to avoid becoming addicted, primarily because addiction in this case would mean reduced effectiveness. But I am not afraid of my painkillers. They are life changing.
Take your meds, everyone. Don't let anyone scare you away from doing something that improves your life.
There is something so sinister about the idea that a medication made to improve your life cannot be trusted if it improves your life so much that you like taking it. Bleh.
It puts this weird moral obligation on suffering. Like if youâre actually comfortable with yourself and your treatment youâre somehow failing. That you need to be ashamed somehow that the medication helps you and need to be looking for alternatives.
But you donât. You found a solution that worked great and then you moved on to something else.
There's also this weird thing that *should* be in opposition to this but is held by a lot of the same people, where "having to take a pill for the rest of your life" is bad.
Why?
Literally, why? I take three prescription meds, at least two of them will be for life, and very possibly the third as well. I take them because they fix things, or at least improve things, that are fucked up in my body.
Why is that bad?
having some thoughts on misogyny in transition but im not sure how to phrase it
there's all this excitement and joy and positivity (that i do think is warranty) about mastectomy that women don't really ever have. if you get ffs or implants or god forbid vaginoplasty you're just kind of expected to keep it to yourself. or at least that's what it looks like from the outside.
Men altering their bodies to fit their ideal self is revolutionary and celebrated. Women altering their bodies to fit their ideal self is antifeminist and mourned.
âHeâs so strongâ
âShe should have just learned to love herselfâ
âHe looks so much happierâ
âSheâs just reinforcing harmful body imagesâ

i love this new gen of pop stars so much
an absolutely humungous update they just keep getting better
I think this needs an important addendum:
Not only did Billie Eilish donate $11.5M, she also called out a room full of billionaires, including Mark Zuckerberg, directly to their faces, saying "If youâre a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but, yeah, give your money away, shorties."
The $11.5M she's donating is about 1/4 if her net worth. Imagine if a billionaire did that? If Mark Zuckerberg donated 1/4 of his net worth, it would be about $55 BILLION... and he's still have over $100 billion left.
And, yet, unsurprisingly, people are mad at Billie Eilish for what she said and not at the billionaires for hoarding all the money and resources

Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.
>:)c
May I present to you, nationalclothing.org?
It doesn't have everything, but it's still my first source when researching traditional clothing from other cultures.
There's also this resource on historical fashion: Claireâs Historical Fashion Reference & Resources
another addition as far as physical media goes there is the encyclopedia of national dress (that i still need to buy myself bc this kind of thing is super important to my sort of fantasy designing) but yes i do agree i wish there was EVEN MORE documentation on this
Reblogging to spread awareness
the goldmine folks
Every time I see this quote I realize how poor even very smart people are at looking at the long game and at assessing these things in context.
One of my favourite illustrations of this was in a First Aid class. The instructor was a working paramedic. He asked, âWho here knows the stats on CPR? What percentage of people are saved by CPR outside a hospital?â
I happen to know but Iâm trying not to be a TOTAL know it all in this class so I wait. And people guess 50% and he says, âLower,â and 20% and so forth and eventually I sort of half put up my hand and I guess I had The Face because he eventually looked at me and said, âYou know, donât you.â
âMy momâs a doc,â I said. He gave me a âso say itâ gesture and I said, âFour to ten percent depending on your sources.â
Everyone else looked surprised and horrified.
And the paramedic said, âWeâre gonna talk a bit about some details of those figures* but first I want to talk about just this: when do you do CPR?â
The class dutifully replies: when someone is unconscious, not breathing, and has no pulse.
âWhat do we call someone who is unconscious, not breathing, and has no pulse?â
The class tries to figure out what the trick question is so I jump over the long pause and say, âA corpse.â
âRight,â says the paramedic. âSomeone who isnât breathing and has no heartbeat is dead. So what Iâm telling you is that with this technique you have a 4-10% chance of raising the dead.â
So no, artists did not stop the Vietnam War from happening with the sheer Power of Art. The forces driving that military intervention were huge, had generations of momentum and are actually pretty damn complicated.
But if you think the mass rejection of the war was as meaningless as a soufflé - well.
Try sitting here for ten seconds and imagining where weâd be if the entire intellectual and artistic drive of the culture had been FOR the war. If everyone thought it was a GREAT IDEA.
What the whole world would look like.
Four-to-ten percent means that ninety to ninety-six percent of the time - more than nine times out of ten - CPR will do nothing, but that one time youâll be in the company of someone worshipped as an incarnate god.
If you think the artists and performers attacking and showing up people like Donald Trump is meaningless try imagining a version of the world wherein they werenât there.
(*if youâre curious: those stats count EVERY reported case of CPR, while the effectiveness of it is extremely time-related. With those who have had continuous CPR from the SECOND they went down, the number is actually above 80%. It drops hugely every 30 seconds from then on. When you count ALL cases you count cases where the person has already been down several minutes but a bystander still starts CPR, which affects the stats)
That Vonnegut quote brings this particular moment to mind:
Yes, itâs just a pie. Yes, the pie itself doesnât do much direct damage in the grand scheme of things. But the pie is resistance, and resistance inspires resistance. Resistance inspires survival. Throwing pies sometimes starts a movement. Throwing pies sometimes saves lives.
And of course, we havenât spoken about the inherent morality of throwing pies at oppressors in a world where oppressors have outlawed pie throwing. At the very least, pie throwing is a reminder to the oppressors that no matter how much money they have, no matter how much power they have, there are still some people, some moments they canât control.
Iâd rather go out throwing pies than just rolling over and accepting that pie throwing isnât going to solve anything. Yeah, the pie throwing doesnât immediately solve the problem, but it doesnât have to because itâs just a starting point. So throw the damn pie.
So throw the damn pie
I want you to remember:
The fascists hate you too and they just will pretend otherwise until after they've killed the rest of us, before they turn on you.
Thanks to whoever tried, but I knew they'd never allow it.
Let's do it the old fashioned way. Spread it far and wide.

generally speaking when it comes to mental and physical health, if you're asked "do you struggle with this" and your answer is "no, Because I Have A System," then your answer is actually yes
Also, for ADHD symptoms specifically, if they ask something like, "Do you have trouble waiting your turn in conversations?" and your answer is, "No I'm a grown up I don't interrupt people," but you are constantly finishing sentences for people in your head and have formulated three replies before they finish talking.... the answer is yes, yes you do.
And if you can stay in your seat but are constantly bouncing a leg, clicking a pen, tapping out a rhythm on your thigh, or otherwise fidgeting, the answer is, yes, you do have trouble staying in your seat.
Neurotypicals do not require iron clad self control and three coping techniques to sit still during a meeting.
What if your answer is "No, I don't have trouble waiting my turn because I can't tell when it's my turn so I never take my turn."?

Twenty years ago, February 15th, 2004, I got married for the first time.
It was twenty years earlier than I ever expected to.
To celebrate/comemorate the date, I'm sitting down to write out everything I remember as I remember it. No checking all the pictures I took or all the times I've written about this before. I'm not going to turn to my husband (of twenty years, how the f'ing hell) to remember a detail for me.
This is not a 100% accurate recounting of that first wild weekend in San Francisco. But it -is- a 100% accurate recounting of how I remember it today, twenty years after the fact.
Join me below, if you would.

the original tweet is from May this year but there has been an update!!
yay for the Chinese destroying the American insulin industry!!!!
executive dysfunction is legitimately physically uncomfortable. iâll be trapped between two things, weirdly caught on how-much-time-it-might-take-me. i take hours worried im going to take hours doing things. iâll sit on the floor for the entire day, caught up in the middle of not-doing the chores i actually do want to be doing.
& the amount of mental energy that goes into it. & the legitimate amount of anger and discomfort and self-hate. is not âbeing lazyâ. itâd be a lot less work if i didnât have to fight myself to just get up and do it.Â
i just need you to understand itâs not effortless. itâs never effortless. itâs not âokay let me just get up and finally start doing this.â itâs more like. i am slamming my foot on the pedal but the car is in neutral and nothing is moving. itâs more like shouting instructions into a dying telephone. itâs more like being trapped in a small electric box, and someone who hates me is administering shocks.Â
im trying. im trying. please help me get up.
âaverage person eats 3 spiders a yearâ factoid actualy just statistical error. average person eats 0 spiders per year. Spiders Georg, who lives in cave & eats over 10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted
#tapping the reblog button with utmost care because iâm handling a historical artifact (via @malarkiness)
holy shit OP is not only still active but is still making absolutely banger posts in this exact style 11 years later
insulting your own work (art or writing or whatever) super openly, especially directly on your work is also insulting everyone who sees and enjoys it. you're essentially calling them a liar or telling them that they have shit taste.
i think abt this a lot (and it helped me stop being an asshole abt my own writing), but i'm especially bitter when it's people who have commission stuff all over. like. you say your stuff is worth buying, but you're calling it awful? do you see what you're saying?
i know it's not always that simple to realize, but still. ghghgh.
yeah gonna tack on here - not to put too blunt a point on it but if you post your work because you want it to be seen and interacted with, but in the same breath youâre telling people it's not good, at the very least itâll look like youâre not proud of it. implies you donât want it to be seen or spread around, itâs not work you want to be known for, etc. youâre actively harming your own chances at an audience by making people reluctant to interact with your work from the start - people will think you donât want them to
it can be dead tempting to tack on something like âi know itâs not very good butâ or âsorry itâs kind of crappyâ especially when youâre first starting to try and get confident about posting your work publicly. you wanna add that little apology because youâve seen some incredible work out there by others and you think people expect that and itâs somehow a shame that you donât make stuff quite like that. this is the devil talking. resist the urge to be apologetic about your work. donât sabotage yourself!
All of this
sometimes you gotta get those doubts and apologies out, so go ahead and type them out if you have toâŠbut then you gotta delete that shit and then write the professional thing and hold that line
by self depreciating your work, youâre also pouring shit over anyone else whoâs working at the same level and who might be feeling proud of themselves before they saw you shit all over your work, and thatâs just not acceptable. their work is awesome, and so is yours.
suck up your doubts and delete your apologies, itâs art, not heart surgery. itâs gonna be ok
