American urban planning!
When I moved to my city, the shitty car I owned immediately died. Luckily, I thought, the apartment we'd moved to had a bus stop right outside and there were bus stops right down the road from my job, and the city's website even had a convenient little route planner!
4 hours. The trip that took 20 minutes by car would require 4 hours, with multiple changeovers, to do on the bus.
When Americans say "public transportation sucks," it's not because we just hate the concept of public transportation; it's because in most places it exists here, it is deliberately underfunded, underserved, and poorly implemented.
Most of this comes from the initial planning back in the 60s and 70s in a lot of places. Where I live all the public transit has one job - to get you downtown to work from 8 to 5 and home again. And even that isn't going to be easy. But trying to plan any other kind of trip is just into the realms of impossible. (For example for me to take the bus to work, a 7 min drive door to door, is over an hour and a half.)

Sonic fans didn’t just eat well this year, they FEASTED.
My teen says it was all well and good til the end of Sonic Frontiers. At which point he came into my room in floods of tears because it was traumatic and required cuddles from his Mom.
shout out to other cripples who just smell terrible all the time. whether because you don't shower/bathe, don't use deodorant, don't change your clothes often, live in an environment that smells bad so it rubs off on you, or can't smell so you can't tell you smell bad. hygiene is difficult and a pain in the ass and being bad at it doesn't mean you're any less worthy of respect and care
Agreed. But I am going to add that you deserve to have the help you need to not have to struggle with hygiene, and it's criminal that wealthy countries are so cheap about providing that help.
“My lord, I know you are the demon lord and I am but a lowly advisor, but please listen to me. I suggest that instead of sending the hero slightly stronger demons to kill each time, we just send the strongest one right away”
“Do you know why the heroes fight us, advisor?”
“Because…. because we threaten their homeland, my lord?”
“And why do we threaten their homeland?”
“Because Kushiel rules it and she exiled you?”
“Close. Because Kushiel rules it and she must be stopped. But we cannot stop her.”
“I’m… not sure I follow, my liege.”
“I am not surprised. This war started long before you were born, did it not?”
“Yes, my lord, at least a dozen centuries before.”
“And I was at least a dozen centuries old when this war began. We sent our strongest soldiers, our mightiest armies. And Kushiel sent children.”
“Children…? Then… how did we not win?”
“Would you like to fight an army of children? See the light that should have burned a century be snuffed out after barely a decade?”
“Well… not particularly, no.”
“Nor did we, and Kushiel knew this. She gives them no training for she knows the worse off they are the worse it will be for us to face them. This went on for several centuries. She fills her people’s heads with stories, false prophecies about how a child will someday defeat the tyrannical ruler who threatens them. And so, we are helping that prophecy become true.”
“Wait, what?”
“We cannot hope to defeat Kushiel. We do not know her with any intimacy. We cannot predict her movements. All we know is she will keep sending children. So we train them. We send out weakest soldiers, those willing to die knowing their sacrifice will eventually be her undoing. Someday, a hero will come who is able to defeat us. A hero who will slaughter our weakest, then our next weakest, and will continue to do so until even I lay dead at their feet. And then the hero will come here and sit in my throne and peer from my grand window. Sit. Tell me what they will see.”
“It…. It’s a graveyard, sir.”
“Those are the graves of all the children Kushiel has sent to die at our hands. Some became adults before they finally fell, but they were always children when they started. We bury them here. And someday a hero will come who will free us from this grievous task. They will take my throne, sit upon it, and see what Kushiel deemed a worthy price for this mere chair. And then the hero will realize who they must fight next. And thanks to us, they will have gained the strength and training necessary to make sure the prophecy is fulfilled and the tyrant will finally die.”
Ouch. I love it.
What a bride SHOULD wear
Today, I had a really lovely woman come in. She was a plus size widow who was getting remarried at about age 50, and was a complete ball of nerves about what she SHOULD be wearing given all that. She came in asking if it was okay that she wear certain silhouettes or details or colors, like "But am I allowed to wear sequins at my age/size/2nd wedding?" There was so much "am I allowed?", and it broke my heart.
I used to be a wedding and event planner as well, and I think it's important that everyone hear what I told that bride. I'm a professional at this, so if you want to take one thing as law, make it this one.
I want you to take every idea you have about what a bride should be allowed to wear at your age/size/situation... And then I want you to set all those ideas on fire and dropkick 'em a mile away.
There are only two rules to what you're "allowed" to wear as a bride: one, that you feel comfortable, and two, that you feel beautiful. That's it. If you're an 86 year old bride who wants a purple see-through mini dress with a V down to your bellybutton with 15 layers of poof under the skirt and crystal pasties where your nipples are, girl... Go for it. I will bust my ass to make it happen.
Anyone who says anything different can take a long walk off a short pier. It's about you, and only you. All that matters is that YOU'RE happy.
(And by the way. that bride found a dress she loved so much she happy-cried.)
There are no wedding police. Just jealous bitches.
“here’s what to pack in a bag to give to homeless people: first you-“ MONEY. GIVE THEM MONEY. it’s fucking money.
a homeless person on the street will not appreciate being given a fucking can of soggy green beans that they cannot open and an entire plastic container of peanuts. they fucking need money. give them money. if you want to help homeless people GIVE THEM MONEY
“they’re just going to spend it on drugs- if i buy food for them that won’t happen” i cannot tell you how much i do not care.
Maybe, because going through withdrawal alone on the street is absolute fucking torture.
so can we start hunting down white liberals now or what
The full picture is even more heart breaking after you open the uncropped version. Just a heads-up, it's rough
“The Roman Catholic Parish in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan was just grafitted.”
Nah let’s post it. Let’s feel it. Don’t look away.
I notice alot of my followers on here skipping these posts just to mess with my lgbt ones, suspiciously the white popular ones.
Heres a not so friendly reminder, as an lgbt metis person, i dont give a single fuck what your blog is themed or if this is too painful for you to look at. Reblog this post. Reblog this post with the sources of the 751 children who were found.
Your compliance and silence as well as the compliance and silence of your ancestors is what allowed these schools to open and kill first nations children. The children of MY people.
Dont follow me if you cant reblog this post or the one with sources to your political blog or your most popular blog. Add trigger warnings if you must but if your political blog is only focused on the harms you personally face like being lgbt then you need to see some bigger pictures and stop being afraid of angering your racist mutural or actually saying some shit about racism. If you can reblog some antifa graphics or add blm to your bio to be a surface level ally, you can reblog some sources on the genocide first nations people faced and still face today.
They were CHILDREN.
They were murdered in cold blood.
I’d like to add this photo I took last night in Victoria of the statue of Captain Cook. Though I myself am not indigenous, I 100% agree that these murderers, kidnappers and rapists shouldn’t have huge statues and plaques that decorate them and say how “great” they were.
Here’s another photo of the legislative assembly from yesterday. Later on there were more items, candles and signs at the memorial, as well as a big poster with 1505 painted on it but I didn’t get a picture
People need to see this. Not just quickly glance at the photos and keep on scrolling. They need to see this.
Reblog this or just stop following me
I had seen the first picture of the church, but not the second.
I went to a “Cancel Canada Day” event and burst into tears - not because I was surprised to learn of the unmarked graves (survivors told us they were there. Our government pushed it aside, and we let them), but because seeing all the people gathered in mourning drove it home: They. Were. Children.
This is my country’s legacy - and it’s not history. The last schools closed during my lifetime. My Father went to school with students who lived at the local residential school, after it was changed to a boarding house (read: holding centre) for indigenous youth who went to local schools.
They were all children, injured, abused, and killed in my country’s attempt to erase them. I want the world to see this and hold the state accountable to *active* reconciliation> I mean we could at least truly adopt UNDRIP in action instead of words for god’s sake.
Every Child Matters. And those that were made to feel that they didn't in life need to matter even more in death.
What if you predate those three options ? I started reading fanfic on random websites and collections. I used to print them out because I wasn't allowed to stay on the internet long enough to read them.

Has anyone already reblogged this with saris? It’s cool how many cultures have similarities like this hidden in plain sight.

The lungi is a traditional garment worn in many southern states of India. It's different from the dhoti, in that it is a tubular shape (like
Since we are here might as well share the dhoti and the lungi

It’s only men in the photos but really anyone can wear them. I am wearing a lungi right now.
I also know Thailand and Sri Lanka have their versions of a lungi as well.
Big cloth rectangles: easy to weave, requires no cutting or hemming, can be worn a multitude of ways without any sewing at all.
The reason for this, for the curious, was because everything was hand spun and hand woven. The clothes you wore were literally sole of the most expensive things you owned. You would will them to people when you died. By not cutting the fabric, you allow for changes due to pregnancy, illness, weight gain, growth, etc. You allow them to be handed to another family member and to have them retrimmed for a new style.
In the Western world, we were solidly into the medieval period before cutting fabric to fit became super common - especially on female presenting persons as they were often pregnant and then nursing.
Allistic people really need to stop phrasing requests as questions because it's fucking with me
"Do you want to help me cook dinner?"
No, I'm still overwhelmed from earlier and want to stay in my room.
"well fine, dinner will be ready when it's done." And now they're upset with me
And I'm just here like ???????
Oh God I hate it when they frame it like that because it sounds like a choice, but if you say no they get all offended. It’s an illusion of choice and it’s so annoying.
If I ever ask something, it’s an offer, not a demand. “Hey, wanna watch a movie with me? No? Okay, I’ll go watch it, you chill here and I hope you feel better.”
I can't count the times I got in trouble because of that as a kid while never having any idea what exactly I did wrong.
Those requests with only one correct response disguised as questions with multiple answers just made me think I couldn't actually say "no" to anything (because I had no idea which ones were the secret requests), something I still have trouble to this day.
Also when they just make an observation but they expect you to know that they’re asking for something. Like “Oh the trash can is pretty full.” But they really mean “Could you take the trash out?” Just fuckign say what you mean 😒
Here's the thing. They've literally been trained since childhood to do it this way, and probably do not realize that what they're saying can be interpreted another way. It's an Ask vs Guess problem. In particular, a lot of women are taught to phrase things is a Guess way. The way they were taught to speak, they are saying what they mean.
If you want someone in your life to switch from Guess to Ask with you, then you need to have a discussion with them, Ask them to meet you somewhere in the middle on this, possibly explain the difference in cultures, definitely explain, "When you say $THING, it does not mean to me what it means to you", and then understand that it will take them time and work to change, and that you may need to be an active participant in that change. You can do this by remembering that things do not mean the same to them that they do to you, and, when they say, "Do you want to cook dinner with me?" replying with, "Are you asking me to do that, or are you asking me if I'd like it?"
Yes, I understand that this will be hard for you also. You and this person in your life will both need to work on this, together, and be forgiving of one another.
This is not something the other person is intentionally doing to you, or at you. They are speaking as they were taught to speak, that's all. It happens to conflict with your neurodivergence. That happens. It can be dealt with.
These are some great tips. I live in a shared household (2 families one primarily AuDHD and the other Allistic) and end up advocating a lot as the adult in the room.
This thread omg
Family doesn’t have to be blood related.
Sometimes family is a righteously angry little girl, her supportive brother, a random stranger with a thirst for chaos and justice, two foreign grandmas, and The Rest Of The Plane.
yasss this makes me happy like nothing else lol
Damn - I'm not a grandma but I'd love to add Libérée, Délivrée to the song list.
