Martina McBride didn't win Country Music Association Song of the Year for a song about how burning your house down with your abusive husband still inside it is good, noble, and an allegory for the American Revolution for people to act like the genre belongs to bootlicking fucks
other things people didn't do for you to act like country music belongs to bootlicking fucks:
Garth Brooks winning video of the year at the ACMs for a song about how none of us are free as long as there's racism and homophobia
Reba McEntire charting with a gothic horror song about an innocent man being executed by an incompetent judge and a corrupt sheriff
Willie Nelson being, well, his entire self tbh
Dolly Parton recording the hating capitalism banger of all time
Kacey Musgraves telling everyone to ignore the haters, smoke weed, and be a bisexual slut
how the hell did I leave Morgan Wade off this list. wrote a song about being depressed, alcoholic, and suicidal and how mental illness stigma sucks, saw how much people connected with it, wrote a Part II of that song about how she's doing better now but you're never totally free of the risk of relapse. fucking icon.
I specifically curated this list so people couldn't be like "ah yes but you see here is my simple binary of good and bad country music which always works", I made sure to add different genders, eras, subgenres, etc and y'all are still pulling that shit in the tags!
listen. Alan Jackson, the archetypal mister big hat man sitting on a tractor singing about a pickup truck, wrote a shockingly normal song about 9/11 that was like "yeah I don't know jack shit about politics but my copy of the bible says we're supposed to love everyone" and then went on the radio and explained how he specifically wanted to write a song about that day that "wasn't vengeful". Miranda Lambert took the southern leftist slogan "y'all means all" and made it the title of a corny ass pop-country song for the Queer Eye soundtrack. Kenny Chesney stole a horse from a cop and Tim McGraw put the cop in a chokehold defending him, and I know that's not about their music but it is, and this is very important, fucking sick as hell
it's fine if you only listen to female country artists or pre-1990 country artists or whatever the fuck you want but stop acting like you've cracked the secret code to dividing a whole genre of art into good pure anti-establishment folk songs vs bad corrupted right-wing sellout pulp
updating this post for 2025:
Luke Combs covering Fast Car and keeping the line "I work in the market as a checkout girl" and doing an interview about how he couldn't change a single word because it's not his story. king shit
Morgan Wallen doing I Had Some Help, literally the first song that spoke to me as a male survivor of domestic abuse. also shoutout to the guy for getting caught saying a racial slur and responding by specifically telling his fans not to defend him and raising a bunch of money for the Black Music Action Coalition. bro had an engraved invitation to the culture war and said "nah I'd rather be normal"
Shaboozey just absolutely obliterating the drunk roadhouse anthem glass ceiling
Maren Morris and Brothers Osborne with a song that okay, released in 2019 but I didn't hear until recently, about how good friends mind their own business and let you love whoever you want and also get high with you when you're broke
Kimberley Perry! If I Die Young Part 2!! "actually I'm glad I lived, bitch" ass song that I bet is gonna mean a LOT to kids fighting depression
Kelsea Ballerini and Noah Kahan with Cowboys Cry Too. okay it's shallow and corny but genuinely a shallow and corny song about how men shouldn't be afraid to have feelings is what a lot of men need
bringing the full version of this post back around because people are pissing me off today
Okay. I am wanting to focus more on writing, since I've been so fiber arts fixated lately, and I think starting a few small things will help. So.... surprise prompt party!!
First five prompts in my inbox are guaranteed a ficlet of some kind (not necessarily today, but soon). Anything received throughout today will also be considered.
Prompts will close 11:59pm EST.
I ended up not receiving 5 prompt requests, so inbox will remain open for the time being!
(I think I may have overestimated what remains of the fandom here lol)
You are trying to move into an apartment with your favorite Pokemon. The building is strict about which Pokemon are allowed inside but it’s super affordable. How hard do you think it will be to convince the landlord to let you keep it in the building?
Easy as can be, perfect apartment dweller
Might take some convincing
Basically a coin flip
It will be an uphill battle but I might be able to, while saying goodbye to my deposit
No increased rent, deposit or argument could convince any landlord to let us in

Let's be real, this guy has a better credit score than I do. I'm getting in because HIS name is on the application.
always 🙏
I want to boost everything this person has said and add on.
The reason I call myself a tomboy now, despite it being seen as a childish word and having had someone swear at me over it because ‘tHeRe’S nO suCh thInG as BoY thInGs anD giRL thIngS sHut uP’ is because I couldn’t call myself that or be like that when I was a kid. It was seen as a negative thing and I was already bullied enough. “Looking like a boy” was the worst thing that could happen to a girl.
And I’m not even 26 yet. We aren’t talking 30+ years ago, we are talking 2000s and even 2010s. It’s only since trans people have become more accepted in the past few years that gender nonconformity has too.
And the people who helped me accept my gender nonconformity more than anyone else? Were trans people. They taught me, “there’s nothing wrong with how you feel. You’re still a valid woman no matter what you wear, how you have your hair or what you’re into ❤️”
And don’t even get me started on how people treat gender nonconforming men. JK Rowling has a lot of nerve to be like “uwu boys can wear dresses and only us gendercrits accept that!” when she has, even in recent works, made femininity in men a negative trait, as well as making masculinity in women a negative trait also.
A lot of people still don’t accept gnc people even now. Just last year I had someone tell me they’d never let their daughter “dress like a boy”, and I’m always terrified to walk into a bathroom in case the next JK Rowling is in there, sees my gender expression and pepper sprays me or worse.
“There’s no such thing as boy things and girl things.” I don’t need to be told that and I’m sure 99% of trans people also don’t need to be told that. Tell that to the society that hates us both instead of actively encouraging that hate.
Gonna point out the og tweet thread is now full of terfs saying that life was better for gay people in the fucking 80s, that it was super easy for them to be a tomboy in the 70s and 80s and therefore it must have been that way for everyone, and that it was totally acceptable to be a gnc gay person in the 80s! 🤪
They’re rewriting history as we speak to try to argue trans acceptance is making it harder to be gay and gnc for youth than it was to be gay in the 80s. This is a blatant lie.
The fucking 80s??? As in, “aids crisis” 80s?? As in, “the government actively avoided funding research to help gay people” 80s????
Man I knew terfism was brain rot but I didn’t think it was this bad.
Actually I'm not going to just keep this in the tags
To go back to the tomboy experience OP described, as that was most of my gender growing up, I think if you didn’t grow up as one, you probably didn’t notice the “time” element. There is a very precisely delineated window of time in which tomboys are allowed to exist, and there is no way to continue past it. “Tomboy” is a very small and very precise allowance of gender, tied to time, and everyone including the child knows that it starts after 6 and ends at 12, or the most obvious onset of puberty.
After that, Tomboys go extinct forever, and you only see them echoed in the “girl disguises herself as a boy for military reasons” thing. A strange folding of spacetime: the idea of the “phase.”
The idea of fluidity and phases is occasionally enforced by the majority in surprising ways - you’ll note that it never really works in a minority’s favour. The revisionism of the legitimacy of a “phase” is interesting in political ways I haven’t fully thought through yet.

No, you see, I wish to be an author. Not in marketing. Or an influencer. I wish to tell my stories, be told I did a fantastic job, and then go back to my hovel to scribble some more. I am delicate of constitution and awkward in crowds.
god can somebody anybody just kill him please please please
I like that most my wlw ships are literally just a pure of heart dumb of ass who is fully convinced that they should one sidedly love the other one and the other is going through the horrors of being known
u know what, even if my writing isnt the BEST, i still made it all on my own. like there was a blank word doc and i filled it up with my own words, my own story. i took what was in my head and i made it a real thing. idk i feel like that alone is something to be proud of.
I know some artists are uncomfortable making fanart from fics if they haven't asked first, so I'm just gonna throw it out as a reminder that if you feel inspired to draw anything from any of my writing--that's fics or little shorties or any of my posts--you are absolutely more than welcome to.
The only thing I ask is to @ me so I can fangirl over it properly and spread it around so others may see it too.
Authors, if you feel this way, I highly recommend putting a blanket permission statement on your AO3 profile. (this also goes for things like podfic, remixes, translations, and anything else that you feel like including).
Artists, if you feel awkward asking (although 99% of authors would probably be thrilled!) look on their profile page to see if they have a blanket permission statement.
A permission statement is a way that you, as a creator, can tell other creators what you do and do not allow others to do with your work.
It's really helpful to share that information in an easily-accessible and permanent place because reblogging a post on tumblr or adding a tag to a post is only going to be seen by the people who catch that post when you put it up. Someone coming along 6 months or 2 years or a decade later will have no idea. Plus, you might have changed your mind in the intervening time.
It can be intimidating, difficult, or even impossible to directly ask someone if they'll allow you to create something based on their work, so a permission statement makes it all so much easier.
If you want to read more about permission statements, there's an article on Fanlore.
If you want to see what they look like, you can take a look at mine on my own AO3 account. Feel free to copy it and modify it however suits you.
Or you can make use of tools like @fanworkspermissionstatement that can help you build your own from the ground up.
(I got 4 podfics last year from absolute strangers, and all of them felt comfortable doing that because of my permission statement. just sayin')
«It's not okay. You have a wife who's not easy to hate, who's annoyingly kind and painfully smart.»
Reblog if you don't use Generative AI to write fanfics/original fics or to create fanart/original art.
If I can't write the idea out myself, then it's either (A) not a good idea in the first place, (B) an idea I don't believe I am capable of doing justice, or (C) it just lives in my brain until it eventually goes somewhere. Literally the only thing I want 'AI' to do when it comes to writing is check my spelling, NOT DO THE WORK FOR ME.
Now, I can't draw much of anything but I'm also not going to insult artists by using a program known for scrapping any art it can find in order to 'create' an 'original' image.
