I want to put this in perspective for anyone else in Canada: this has happened within less than a century. These are 1665 human beings who would have otherwise been elders today. Straight people, especially those who hide their hatred behind religion really are something else. This week Brazil lost a great actor to covid, he was a great comedian and main movies always made me laugh. He was gay. He had a husband. He had two kids. News outlets are talking about it. Everybody’s moved. Everybody’s angry. Everybody’s grieving in a way. Yet fucking straight, hateful people have the nerve to celebrate it. To joke about it. To find reasons to justify it. “He messed with god”, “one less worm in the world”, “he wasn’t a husband because that wasn’t marriage”, “he was an abomination and got what he deserved”. Those are just the comments I can remember and that’s what I fucking hate about the internet, that it gives these people a voice. I fucking hate them and I’m scared of them because from the comfort of my home they’re just words on a screen to me but there are people who have it so much worse and it makes me sick to my stomach. The fucking nerve those people have of thinking their shitty little opinions should be shared, especially in a moment like this... I just hate it on my bones.

The first run was five hardbacks of progressively increasing girth. The stack is hefty, but the books are comfortable. Each chapter has chapter art too, which I consider a plus in all fantasy books.

Later runs were single-book softcover monstrosities. I think I saw another five-volume hardback run recently, but I’m not deeply involved in the fandom anymore.

I still think the 5-volume split was the best option.  It’s a big damn story.

Ok, I Kind of hate that I know this, but I’m pretty sure that anon’s teacher did NOT write the books the others are showing off. He wrote the darker, edgier and somehow even longer fanfic OF that fanfic called Project Horizons.

Original Fallout Equestria was written by someone known as Kkat who I’m 90% sure is a woman and the story only has some PG-13ish scenes at worst (you know, aside from the violence and gore that comes with a Fallout setting.) Project Horizons was written by a guy known as Somber, who I remember him mentioning in the post-chapter notes that he got fired for failing the wrong student once and the fic itself includes multiple explicit sex scenes.

I wonder what killed the Ice-age Cave bears. They're one of the few animals humans almost certainly didn't extinct and they were just about the perfect apex animal. Hell they were even omnivores.

Okay so the really neat thing about cave bears is that like anon said they were pretty much the perfect apex predator, but they were SCAVENGERS. They went out of their way to be extremely powerful and used it to bully other predators out of their kills. Not that they couldn't kill things on their own, but why do that when you could instead find stuff that someone else killed and steal it from them? One of the prevailing theories about their extinction though is that once more and more megafauna started dying out they stopped being able to find the large carcasses needed to sustain their incredible size and power and weren't able to survive on the slimmer pickings left available to them.
