'reasons' for honour killings.

Renouncing faith, homosexuality, socialising with men, adopting behaviours outside of the religion, sex outside of marriage, being in a relationship with someone of the wrong religion.

Non religious reasons: being a victim of sexual assault, refusing an arranged marriage. These can arguably be connected back to religion.

Many will say that these are cultural reasons, but it's our job to be critical, challenge, and utilising information already established within radical feminism. Its not my postion. Radical feminism is critical of religion, and honour killings sit in that category.

The thing I've experienced is that Christian and Muslim women who are faithful are told that they aren't even allowed to be included in radical feminism (for some reason cults like zionism get a pass). I get being critical of religion but to me it just seems obvious it's the same kind of power dynamic that has resulted in a woman being murdered by a family member every 10 minutes in the US. The problem with liberal “equality” feminism is that it sees femininity and masculinity as morally neutral, natural alignments. Created equal. Just two sets of behaviors and expectations, and the real problem is just that people are restricted to one of these at a time when they should be free to ~play with gender~.

There’s no acknowledgment that the expectations and trappings of femininity are intended to turn their adherent into an object, while masculinity is about empowerment, grooming an oppressive class. They’re not created equal!

Femininity is about restricting movement, mandatory time and money investments into ever-changing beauty rituals, being small and subservient and accommodating. It’s literally about becoming a decoration. The fact that men don’t have as much access to a clearly oppressive role is not the problem here! The fact that they are being taught violence and to repress their humanity in order to subjugate women, over whom they are told they are inherently superior, is definitely more of a problem!

Essentializing gender as morally neutral instead of the framework through which women’s oppression is carried out is the worst possible thing for feminism.

Societies have always had ways of “managing” those who do not conform to gender norms. The murder of girls and women being lumped with genders and sexualities under the MMIWGLGBTQIA+ acronym reminds me of that thing I posted a while ago about how they’re really trying to brand the oppression of women as an “identity”. Just like they’re trying to push “sex worker “as a type of gendered identity.

The point is to make external social circumstances (violence against women) an internal event that forms the basis of your self concept. So that you can, ultimately, auto-oppress yourself and be perpetually stuck in your social position.

They’ve already succeeded in doing this with sexism/gender roles. Sexist gender roles, artificially created by society, is now your “innate identity”. Instead of a boy wondering why his interest in “feminine” things renders him low status amongst other men- he now just goes ahead and identifies as the low status classification (ie: female/girl/woman). Thus, there is no opportunity for questioning or resistance to the hegemonic masculine structure.

Similarly, by including missing and murdered women in an identity acronym you’re supposed to just cognitively accept that Indigenous women are the type to go missing and be murdered. Instead of drawing attention to the external forces that cause this phenomenon, with this language, we’re supposed code the experience of being missing or murdered as just part of these women’s innate identity.

Transfeminism accuses radical feminism of being obsessed with the “negatives” of womanhood. But it’s the opposite- the radical feminist position sees womanhood as the neutral experience of being human and having a female body. We seek to highlight the oppressive external social structures imposed on said body.

Transfeminism is concerned with the internal experience of “being feminine”. That’s why to them, to discuss external oppressive structures is to attack the state of “being a woman”. They have decided that external circumstances is now a part of their identity and self-concept and so when you focus on the oppression of women, you’re muddying their self concept with negativity.

i remember being read The Giving Tree as a little girl. i remember the little boys thinking it was a great story, while me and my friends, all girls, were left shocked. we had expected some message at the end about how taking and taking from someone while giving nothing in return is wrong. it was like pages had been ripped from the book. the little boys saw nothing wrong, but we understood that the book was saying we were supposed to give and give and give until we had nothing left, and it was a happy ending. because the boy got everything he could ever want, and the tree got the boys attention for an hour or two.

The Giving Tree should really have been called The Taking Boy. i still can't believe we read this to children.

this post has unearthed a deep forgotten memory of having this book read to me by my mother as a very young child, and crying inconsolably at the end of it. Like you say, I think because the story feels like it's missing a part where the tree receives some mutual care in return, and you wait and wait as the pages turn for this to happen, but it just never does, and the tree essentially dies as it watches the boy (now and old man) teach his grandson to plant a new tree... presumably to exploit in the same way.

I remember my mother telling me "Why are you crying? The tree was happy! It's a story about love. The tree gave itself because it loved the boy," and not knowing how to articulate what upset me so deeply about the book. It may sound dramatic to say but I felt deeply scarred by this book just from the few times it was read to me, and I think that's because even if we cannot put it into words at that age, even very small female children have some sort of subconscious awareness the book is about their mothers, and by extension about our own future as women, and about the unfairness and cruelty we will experience which will be treated as a virtuous expectation.

i remember, as a little girl, hearing all these stories about "sacrifice". "she sacrificed everything for me, she's the best mom" or "my mom sacrificed her whole life to help me" or even our own mothers saying that "love is sacrifice" and how she was happy to give up her dreams or goals because she loved her husband and her kids. The Giving Tree is about our mothers that gave everything to this world, to their husbands, to their children, and it's called love. it's romanticized. it feels like the best thing a woman can be is someone who gives everything up, sacrifices everything, until she's not even a real person but a driving force in someone else's life. we watched our moms in relationships where she gave and gave for so little in return, and called it love. kids pick up on that, especially daughters. The Giving Tree is our mothers.

What you describe is something I have noticed over and over in TV and documentary interviews where adult children are asked to speak about their mothers. Both men and women will mention appreciating how their mothers sacrificed for them, but almost without fail, this will be the only thing the men have to say about who their mothers were. Women will often speak about her sense of humor, her style, her favorite hobbies, her talents unrelated to care-giving, but the men almost never mention a single thing about their mothers aside from what she did for them. To them, their mother's greatest achievement is having given up everything to make them a successful man.

In the male mind, women are not their own people with their own lives, but vessels that carry and sacrifice to make and support the people with actual lives... men.

Why aren't we talking about the real reason male college enrollment is dropping? (Celeste Davis, Oct 6 2024)

"White flight is a term that describes how white people move out of neighborhoods when more people of color move in.

White flight is especially common when minority populations become the majority. That neighborhood then declines in value.

Male flight describes a similar phenomenon when large numbers of females enter a profession, group, hobby or industry—the men leave. That industry is then devalued.

Take veterinary school for example:

In 1969 almost all veterinary students were male at 89%.

By 1987, male enrollment was equal to female at 50%.

By 2009, male enrollment in veterinary schools had plummeted to 22.4%

A sociologist studying gender in veterinary schools, Dr. Anne Lincoln says that in an attempt to describe this drastic drop in male enrollment, many keep pointing to financial reasons like the debt-to-income ratio or the high cost of schooling.

But Lincoln’s research found that “men and women are equally affected by tuition and salaries.”

Her research shows that the reason fewer men are enrolling in veterinary school boils down to one factor: the number of women in the classroom.

For every 1% increase in the proportion of women in the student body, 1.7 fewer men applied.

One more woman applying was a greater deterrent than $1000 in extra tuition! (…)

Since males had dominated these professions for centuries, you would think they would leave slowly, hesitantly or maybe linger at 40%, 35%, 30%, but that’s not what happens.

Once the tipping point reaches majority female- the men flee. And boy do they flee!

It’s a slippery slope. When the number of women hits 60% the men who are there make a swift exit and other men stop joining.

Morty Schapiro, economist and former president of Northwestern University has noticed this trend when studying college enrollment numbers across universities:

“There’s a cliff you fall off once you become 60/40 female/male. It then becomes exponentially more difficult to recruit men.”

Now we’ve reached that 60% point of no return for colleges.

As we’ve seen with teachers, nurses and interior design, once an institution is majority female, the public perception of its value plummets.

Scanning through Reddit and Quora threads, many men seem to be in agreement - college is stupid and unnecessary.

A waste of time and money. You’re much better off going into the trades, a tech boot camp or becoming an entrepreneur. No need for college. (…)

When mostly men went to college? Prestigious. Aspirational. Important.

Now that mostly women go to college? Unnecessary. De-valued. A bad choice. (…)

Thank you members, for taking the time to be here today, and thank you staff for making this happen.

My name is Aliya Rahman, and I am a resident of South Minneapolis. I am a Bangladeshi American born in Northern Wisconsin. And I’m a disabled person with autism and a traumatic brain injury.

Not all autistic brains do this, but mine fixates on sounds, numbers, and patterns. And while what the world saw happen to me exactly three weeks ago today on video was a terrible violation it is still nothing compared to the horrific practices I saw inside the Whipple center.

So I am here today with a duty to the people who have not had the privilege of coming home, and I offer this data because these practices must end now.

On January 13th on the way to my 39th appointment at Hennepin County’s traumatic brain injury center, I encountered a traffic jam caused by ICE vehicles and no signs indicating how to get around it. I had not wanted to pull in to a blocked, chaotic intersection, but verbally agreed to do so and rolled down my window after an agent yelled, “Move! I will break your f-ing window!”

His first instruction.

Agents on all sides of my vehicle yelled conflicting threats and instructions that I could not process while watching for pedestrians.

Then, the glass of the passenger side window flew across my face.

I yelled, “I’m disabled!” at the hands grabbing at me and an agent said, “Too late.”

I felt immersed in a pattern, and I thought of Jenoah Donald, an autistic black man killed by the police during a traffic stop in 2021.

I remembered mister Silverio Villegas González, who was killed by ICE in his vehicle last year.

An agent pulled a large combat knife in front of my face, which I thought was for cutting me, and later learned was used to cut off my seat belt. Shooting pain went through my head, neck, and wrists when I hit the ground face first and people leaned on my back.

I felt the pattern, and I thought of mister George Floyd, who was killed four blocks away.

I was carried face down through the street by my cuffed arms and legs while yelling that I had a brain injury and was disabled. I now cannot lift my arms normally.

I was never asked for ID.

Never told I was under arrest.

Never read my rights.

And never charged with a crime.

Approaching the Whipple center, I saw black and brown bodies shackled together, chained together, being marched by yelling agents outdoors. I continued to hear the word “bodies”, because that is how agents referred to us:

“We’re bringing in a body.”

“They’re bringing in bodies 7, 8 at a time, where do I put ‘em?”

“We can’t use that room, there’s already a body in there.”

You have no reason to believe you will make it out alive if you’re already being called a body.

Agents repeatedly had to stop and ask how to do tasks. I received no medical screening, phone call, or access to a lawyer. I was denied a communication navigator when my speech began to slur. Agents laughed as I tried to immobilize my own neck. I asked for my cane and was told no, pulled up by my arms and prodded forward in leg irons by agents laughing and saying, “Walk! You can do it, walk.”

Agents did not know if the facility had a wheelchair.

When I was finally placed in one to be taken to interrogation an agent taunted, “You were driving, right? So your legs do work.”

I pleaded for emergency medical care for over an hour after my vision had become blurry, my heart rate went through the roof, and the pain in my neck and head became unbearable.

It was denied.

When I became unable to speak my cellmate pleaded for me.

The last sounds I remember before I blacked out on the cell floor were my cellmate banging on the door, pleading for a medic, and a voice outside saying, “We don’t wanna step on ICE’s toes.”

When I opened my eyes at Hennepin County’s emergency room, I learned I was brought there to be treated for assault.

The impacts of DHS detention on my physical, mental and financial well-being and safety have been very severe, but I do not deserve more humane treatment than anyone else, US citizen or not. And I am here today with a strong spirit and a duty to the many people who haven’t had the privilege to tell their stories or see their loved ones come home. I am extremely distressed by the pattern that violence from law enforcement has been happening to black and indigenous communities for centuries, and to DHS survivors for over 20 years.

We call ourselves a civilized nation, but we lack rules and accountability around what a person claiming to be law enforcement is permitted to do to another human being.

I am not afraid, and I’m not afraid to keep working on this problem even after ICE is gone. Thank you for your time.

For a start, studies have shown that men have a higher self esteem than women worldwide.

Secondly, men don't know what terror is. "Terror" is not what you feel when you're nervous about a woman not being interested in sleeping with you. Terror is what you feel when you're a child bride on your first night with your paedophilic husband. Terror is when your father, uncle and brothers discuss murdering you because you've "dishonored" the family. Terror is when your boyfriend puts his hand around your neck because you threatened to leave him. Terror is when a man follows you home after you refused to answer his "hello what's your name can I have your number do you live nearby?" Ironically, terror is what women often feel when they reject men.

So here we have another case of men trying to discuss human psychology but being too self involved and misogynistic to make any sense.
