With everyone (me) suddenly obsessing over The Devil himself Matt Murdock (he’s deserved this kind of love for years but we love to see this level of simping), a concept crossed my mind.
What if our angsty flirtatiously-snarky blind vigilante was falling for a deaf individual who could actually keep up with his crap as a romantic partner?
Lots of communication-related questions and barriers to cross, but something about it seems like a fun challenge to me. I’ll admit I’m toying with it, though I’ll have to go through both Daredevil and The Defenders again to confidently flesh it out. Either way, I feel like a plot is coming together and I’m excited.

The worst part isn’t the pain. It’s never been the pain. The worst part isn’t the restriction of movement. The way his arm doesn’t reach all the way out. Even when he needs it too. When he’s trying to piece the “guardians” ship back together. The worst part isn’t sleeping face down on the cold metal floor the night after because his back was to stiff to settle straight.
The worst part is how the bruises linger. Maybe if he had sufficient nutrients, If he hadn’t starved himself in the weeks to come after the snap, If his body wasn’t preoccupied with other things. Maybe they would have healed. But when the ship touches down on Earth they’re still there.
He’s never regretted all the mirrors and chrome in his bathroom like he does his first night back. Pepper is trying to clean him and work some warmth back into his wasted muscle. And he has to clench his eyes shut because he can see them. From the chin mark in his collar bone to the lanky arms and thin fingers on his back. The bruises faded to sickly shades of grey and green. The outlines no longer settle right on his skin where the muscle has misaligned them. But they are still there.
Pepper’s hands avoid the area, her eyes darting elsewhere. She doesn’t ask where they came from. With the rest of the wounds on his body they are hardly the biggest concern. But they’re different. Darker, deeper, than the other splotches. So much more defined. And yet less deliberate.
Tony doesn’t open his eyes but he settles one shaky hand on his own shoulder right where he knows Peter’s hand is. Still clutching him in desperate fear long after the dust has settled.
