it's fucking act of service upon act of service with those two, wdym olly neglects sleep just so he can spend some time cooking with his bestie? help him make a nice meal for their children apprentices?? wdym when he accidentally ends up making 5 portions of dessert instead of 6 he lies about eating one, yet quifrey sees through his bs (because this mad lad mentally calculated the ingredients it took to make and knows there were only 5 portions to begin with) and splits a portion with him (by bringing it to his bed). wdym quifrey straight up made a SPARKLY APPLE SLICES PASTRY BOUQUET on a whim and left it in olly's room to "brighten up the space"

i personally prefer to see this from aromantic perspective but whatever type of connection these two have it sure is INTENSE

Neither of you know the first thing about how to care for even a healthy fish. This fish has been poorly cared for, has multiple diseases and the person who handed it over explicitly didn't expect it to live nearly as long as it already has.

You're frantically googling how to set up a fish tank, where to buy fish food, can you even take a fish to the vet? Your partner wants you to know that they're happy they made it home and survived their horrific ordeal, but also that if anything happens to the fish then they're going to kill everyone on this planet and then themself.

You're honestly wondering if you're even helping the fish, or just prolonging its suffering, but your partner will only accept medical help for their many injuries or engage in basic self-care once they're confident that the fish is being looked after.

So you get a tank. You set up a filter and all that stuff. You learn way more than you ever wanted to know about water temperature and ph and nitrate levels. The fish is safe. You start to develop some affection for the little guy. Your partner begins to recover. The fish begins to recover.

Which is when you learn that in its 'healthy' state, the fish regularly refuses to sleep when tired, keeps begging for food that is obviously unhealthy for it (and struggling to eat the food that you do provide because “it tastes gross”), and continually tries to persuade your partner to take it out of its nice safe tank so it can go explore the wonderful world of Outside, where the slightest mishap will kill it instantly.

It really is hilarious because whenever you start your art journey, you watch all the videos and ask artists and they all give tips and help but it all ends up coming down to "you just have to practice".

And it pisses you off because bruh how am I supposed to practice this shit if I can't even do this first couple of fucking lines to make a good cylinder.

And then you start drawing and it sucks and you keep doing it, and you learn new skills and tricks, and you even end up developing an art style naturally (which they told you you would do, and you didn't believe them, but it came free with the constantly drawing in a way that made you comfortable and learning the medium).

And at the end of it all, someone else asks wow how you did all of that, and after all this time of putting in effort you finally have to eat crow and admit that the answer is... Damn... you really have to practice 🤣🤣🤣

It doesn't have to be boring sit down for thirty minutes a day, but at some point you GOTTA LOOK at other people's stuff to learn! 99% of us are just not the magical art genius that looks at a body once and just Gets It! The rest of us peons gotta use references!

The Camarilla in Austin offering LaVonte a position of power is so good on a storytelling level because it reiterates the point Brennan made earlier about the college students not wanting to stay and build something but rather go somewhere it's already built. He's presenting LaVonte with the same choice as students like Patty Babcock. Stay in Purpee and do the hard work of creating the community you want or leave for a city where it's all established and he can just slot into the system. It's great because it pissed LaVonte of that the students didn't care. Now confronted with the same choice is he going to be true to his intentions of making New Rome or be a hypocrite?

One of the root problems of our society is a refusal or inability by media to articulate that all those “it’s gonna be an apocalypse” disasters were not disasters because we collectively did something about them.

The good news is this is actually quite correctable. I maintain my firm belief that we as humans are capable of solving almost all of our problems, when we decide to do so.

And I still think that’s going to happen. I don’t know when or how, but I do know that abandoning hope won’t help bring it about.

And I refuse to let the cynics own a chunk of my heart.
