Speaking as a survivor of child sex abuse: the world would be a lot better if yall spent less time talking about the ways in which pedophiles should be punished and more time supporting survivors and preventing abuse
I get it, punishment can feel cathartic. I’ve certainly spent time imagining all the ways in which my own abuser might be punished. But ultimately, him dying, or being jailed, or publicly shamed, isn’t actually going to help me nor will it stop more kids from getting hurt in the future.
I don’t want more prisoners. I want free therapy with trauma informed counselors. I want better sex education for young children that teaches them about consent and body autonomy. And I want a society in which I can openly discuss my trauma, or at least as openly as yall discuss the evils of pedophiles
I’ve been saying this!!! Some people don’t actually care about preventing abuse and supporting survivors, and it shows. All they want is to fulfill some weird revenge fantasy through punishment. And just to be clear, this is not me defending anyone who has abused children or calling for them to not be punished. But it’s often clear and telling where your priorities are. Imagining these elaborate ways to hurt/punish abusers does not actually prevent abuse from happening. You know what does? Comprehensive sex education (STARTING AT HOME, NOT SCHOOL.) Therapy and psychological treatment access. Functional social service programs.
A lot of the time when people talk about abusing pedophiles, it feels the exact same way as when people fantasize about going to war in order to kill people. They don’t actually care about the people they talk about punishing, they just want to be violent towards somebody that they look down on.
I think it can also be an easy way for people to gain social points. Everybody (hopefully) agrees that pedophilia is wrong. So talking about how much you hate pedophiles can be an easy way to bond with other people.
(This is talking about the reblog not the OG Post)
Comprehensive sex education needs to start at school because a lot of the time parents don’t know anything either. That information doesn’t just come out of the ether it needs to be taught.

I say it should start at home, not school, because really it should start before children are school aged. Sex ed also includes correct names for body parts and the concept of privacy, consent, and private parts of the body. It should still be happening explicitly at school, but ideally it should start sooner.
I completely agree with you. The way you had it worded in the original post made it seem like sex is something that should only be taught to older children and not younger ones. It’s a relatively common opinion that people should only start receiving sex ED. information once they hit period age.
Fair enough! I can see how it game across that way.

I just saw a story on AO3 tagged "pet p!ay"
TIK TOK MUST BE STOPPED BEFORE IT DESTROYS LANGUAGE
Ok, unless something's going on I'm not aware of (extremely likely), I gotta point out the term "Pet Play" is significantly older than Tik Tok, or most of its userbase for that matter.
Yeah, I'm not mad about using the term "pet play". That's a perfectly fine term. I'm mad because they didn't use that term: they used "pet p!ay", a censored version
Oh. Oh gawd I missed that. Objection withdrawn, that is objectively terrible.
To anybody who is new to posting on ao3, if you’re using a tag you have to use the correct spelling of that tag. People aren’t going to type in every version of a censored word to hide or look for your content
For everyone new to tumblr, the same rule applies to tumblr too.
You cannot censor your tags! Censored tags cannot be block or filtered. Censoring tags HARMS your audience, it does not protect them
So I know this is diverging from the point a little, but I’m a high school ELA teacher and this type of censorship is actually a problem. Like students will use this exact type of censorship while hand writing essays. Or they will write things like “unalived” instead of died or “SA” instead of sexual assault. They’ve forgotten that the reason for that type of censorship is to avoid social media flags, and they’re incorporating it into their speech and writing.
HC that Leo just grabs hot shit out of the oven with no oven mits and the first time Jason watches him do it he panics so bad he flies into a complete meltdown
happy pride month you gorgeous wonderful perfect little queer angel you 💋🌈
🧵 THREAD: This #PrideMonth, don’t forget that the fight for queer liberation didn’t start or end with marriage equality.
💪✨ We need to keep fighting for our rights.
Here’s are a few examples:
💋 Before the 2003 Supreme Court ruling in Lawrence v. Texas, same-smex smexual activity was illegal in fourteen U.S. states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. military
👶 Before 2015, LGBTQ+ couples couldn’t adopt in all 50 states. Before the Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, laws varied wildly by state.
🏳️🌈 Before 1973, the American Psychiatric Association listed homosmexuality as a ‘mental illness.’ In December 1973, a vote was successfully held to remove it.
🗳️ Before 1974, there were no openly gay elected officials. That changed with Kathy Kozachenko, who became the first openly gay American elected to public office in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
🎖️ Before 2011, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” banned LGBTQ+ people from serving openly in the military.
💍 Before 2015, LGBTQ+ couples couldn’t get married in all 50 states. At the time, laws varied by state, and while many states allowed for civil unions for same-sex couples, it created a separate but equal standard.
💼 Before 2020, employers could legally discriminate against queer and trans employees. It wasn’t until the U.S. Supreme Court held that an employer who fires or otherwise discriminates against an individual simply for being gay or transgender is in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
