These are my aquariums, the gold rimmed one is 100l and the black rimmed is a 64l corner tank (so like... 23 gal and 16 gal if ive done the conversions right) they are 2 and 1 years old respectively, and have more or less the same plants. Lots of stems in the back, mainly limnophilia, ludwigia palustris super red, altheranea reiinikki, a bunch of anubias and an assortment of crypts and mosses. Floaters are red root floaters and salvinia minima, i also have some amazon frog bits but my tetras keep the roots very short. I started with just one anubias and some limnophilia, and then have accumulated more and more through different swaps and sales at my local shop :)
The 16 gal used to house my betta but I can't manage to keep them alive for long so for now it's just a growout tank for shrimp and one juvenile bristlenose pleco.
I'd like to upgrade my big tank to 150l exclusively to fit more plants lol
Jesus Christ what a flex I’m so jealous. I assume these are CO2? I want to shrink down real small and go snorkeling in them.
Someday I want a huge tank that’s just jungle vals. I love giant grass tanks.
My tank isn't a pretty as Nienn's but I do have a lot of val! Val Nana and Val Erecta as it's a native Australian walstad tank. It's 283L, I admire Nienn's ability to manage water quality in such small tanks.
I am currently learning with my quarantine tank and god it is so much more difficult than a large tank!
That tank is so cool! Very overgrown riverbed :) I wish had space for a proper big tank. For now i just have a bunch of small ones.
This is my little 7l filterless bowl with 2 male cherry shrimp and a couple ramshorn snails
And this is my 7 week old 10l waterfall shrimpbowl. It's been almost a year of planning and collecting tech, anubias cuttings and glueing rocks and wood together. I'm super happy with how it's growing in!

No co2, just very strong lights (they are basic but strong diy lamp bulbs with flower pot shades), and lots of time. I don't have the budget for fancy lights or co2 rn, but honestly idk if id be able to keep up with growth if i added co2 to this. They already need a lot of trimming. And it's taken a while for them to grow in this thick. I started with one pot or a couple cuttings per plant.
Huge val tanks are so cool. I have a lil patch of spiral val that came w one of the tanks, but the limnophilia is outcompeting it pretty strongly. I'd love to have a huge jungle tank full of tiny rasboras one day.
Also as someone who has never managed to keep a houseplant alive for longer than 3 weeks im so happy to finally have lil gardens I don't need to remember to water.
Remember when Lil Nas X beautifully explored his sexuality, seduced and killed the devil to the banger of all time, and instead of cheering on this openly gay and proud Black artist for his artistry and fighting back against respectability politics, suddenly said respectability politics was all the Queerest Place on the Internet cared about? Hm. Wonder what happened there.
Anyway I miss him and hope he's doing better with his mental health 🙏🏾
Like say what you want about "bad queer representation", but this was the song that made me openly and happily accept that I was bisexual. To see him up there Black and beautiful, making music that I love, absolutely killing it? Yeah. You couldn't tell me shit. This man made me proud to be out. "This will make them think we're evil for being gay" hey newsflash dawg-
🌈 happy pride month! 🌈
ADD + Autism, but same.
For the love of god if your native language is different from the majority language of the country you’re living in don’t raise your baby speaking the local language. Either have each parent speak to them in a different language or only speak your native language at home. The kid will be okay. Get your native language in their head. You may think you’re helping them in the long term giving them the local language but no. When they’re an adult they’ll wonder why you never taught them your language. They can and will learn the local language in school. They’ll be okay. Produce more bilingual children. They are good for society.
And also, being bilingual helps with executive function. Not all kids have to reach the same language development at the same time as everyone else, it’s okay to have your kid speaking in more complex sentences a month or so later than the “normal” kids.
I've studied the science linguistically but I'd like to put that aside. PLEASE teach your kid the native language. It can go so much deeper than "wondering why", it can create a schism-like pain when you know there's a heritage you have but all access has been cut off. Yes, ALL. If you're fortunate enough to visit the country of your native language but dont teach your kid, they will be miserable, quiet, and alone, and go through difficult phases of hating that heritage because the ladders were cut for them.
And in the United States, this starts young. I've seen teachers tell a Kazakhstani parent that she should tell her kid to speak English INSTEAD. The kid was 2 and a half. A friend's five year old told him "Dad this is America we dont speak Chinese". If you don't teach your kid your native language this country will wrest all pride and heritage from them by force. An occasional visit or two to the home country will not stop the bleeding.
The pain of not speaking the language of my heritage is something I don't wish on anyone. And that language is one of the most spoken in the world, imagine if your native language is rarer. What happens? What happens?
When you read this post in a different context than the US, everything is very confusing until you realize it's written from a US perspective where being bilingual is something almost exclusive of the children of immigrants.
There are millions and millions of us for whom our native language is very much not the majority language of our country, but at the same time is our local language (and the majority language acts as our second language).
There are endangered languages on every continent of the world because people teach their children the majority language instead of their native language so I very much doubt that this problem doesn’t exist where you are.
Tumblr user forgets that immigrants exist.
If you met someone with the same last name as you, how surprised would you be?
Not at all, it's very common
A little surprised, but wouldn't immediately assume a connection
I would be surprised and assume there was some relation
I would be very surprised that I *hadn't* met this person, we must be related
Does anyone else with this last name even exist?
i didn’t know that about you, primeape

That raises many disturbing questions
Nah, Goofy and Pluto raise disturbing questions. This is just how plants normally work.
excuse me, but goofy and pluto are like humans and other apes. closely related species but not the same. this can be seen in how goofy walks plantigrade and bipedally, while pluto is digitigrade and quadrupedal
we are really going to have this debate today aren’t we
are you going to argue that they’re different versions of the same species, which has different types of walking? when dogs and wolves are generally regarded as different species? and wolves and coyotes are different?
Obviously different species. Look at how they walk
i am pointing out that pluto is digitigrade while goofy is plantagrade. that is not what is pictured
Sorry, gang, gotta weigh in on this one. Pluto and Goofy are both cartoon dogs. The idea of them being different species of cartoon dogs doesn't hold water for a few reasons. - Pluto does not have digitigrade legs. Here's a real dog with real digitigrade legs.
We should all know how that works. The weight rests on the 'toes', the bones which parallel our ankle joints are positioned higher and act as locomotive joints as opposed to weight-bearing joints, and the knee/hip are similar to ours. Okay, so here's Pluto:
Pluto puts his weight on his ankle, and his knee is the main locomotive joint. He's plantigrade. I'm actually finding it impossible to grab examples of him walking in a such way that doesn't suggest that he and Goofy have extremely similar anatomical structures, (minus Goofy doesn't have a tail and Pluto has less digits* - but those can be chalked up to individual variation.) *Sometimes Pluto summons a thumb out of nowhere in order to complete a gag so who knows.
Walking comfortably as a quadruped is not evidence of him being a different species; some humans can do that. He can otherwise emote as well as Goofy, shows as complex an emotional range as Goofy, is as much a character as Goofy is. Rarely we get Pluto's internal monologue, and it is complex and very human. The only reason he is considered less anthropomorphic is because he acts less anthropomorphic. And doesn't wear clothes; lots of cartoon animals don't wear clothes, though. But, I mean, Goofy can talk. Pluto can't talk. Right? - Pluto Can Talk Pluto only speaks in barks and some maybe human-sounding interjections (huh, yeah, woah), but his earliest incarnations delivered some dialogue. He could, once upon a time, speak some english and communicate with Mickey. His lines were brief, and his character's ability to talk was phased out pretty early.
It may be worth noting that 75% of his spoken dialogue was racist enough that The Walt Disney Company went back and redubbed those few lines with barking. So, I mean. That might explain why they don't let him talk anymore.
I think I started replying to all this with a different point, but now I guess my point is that the Goofy/Pluto situation raises so many questions that after taking the time to read more about Pluto and draft this reply, I am more convinced that Goofy and Pluto are the same kind of cartoon dog, and I have even more questions about what the hell is going on here.
Dinosaur cartoon.
Important reminder
This reminds me of the fact that "Ancient Egypt" goes back so many thousands of years, that the most recent "Ancient Egyptians" were already studying (even more) Ancient Egypt.
Not even the most recent ones. It was an Egyptian prince from the 13th century BCE studying and restoring artifacts from the 26th century BCE.
For context, the last Pharaoh, Cleopatra VII, lived in the 1st century BCE. Prince Khaemweset, known as "the first egyptologist", was as ancient to her as the pyramids and tombs he was studying were ancient to him.
I remember having me mind completely blown when I learned that the "New Kingdom" was pre-Bronze Age Collapse.
This has totally be mentioned in another fork of this post, but it reminds me quite a bit of Ennigaldi-Nanna's museum, a museum in Ur, c. 530 BC, which housed mesopotamian artifacts dating back in some cases to the 20th century BC
