In a way, he made me think of a child doll, with brilliant faintly red-brown glass eyes—a doll that had been found in an attic. I wanted to polish him with kisses, clean him up, make him even more radiant than he was. “That’s what you always want,” he said softly. His voice shocked me. If he had any French or Italian accent left, I couldn’t hear it. His tone was melancholy and had no meanness in it at all. “When you found me under Les Innocents,” he said, “you wanted to bathe me with perfume and dress me in velvet with great embroidered sleeves.” “Yes,” I said, “and comb your hair, your beautiful russet hair.” My tone was angry. “You look good to me, you damnable little devil, good to embrace and good to love.” We eyed each other for a moment. And then he surprised me, rising and coming towards me just as I moved to take him in my arms. His gesture wasn’t tentative, but it was extremely gentle. I could have backed away. I didn’t. We held each other tight for a moment. The cold embracing the cold. The hard embracing the hard. Anne Rice

AND ANOTHER THING ☝🏽
armand is like canonically the most beautiful person that anyone in the vampire chronicles books has ever seen. both louis and lestat spend a significant amount of their respective books waxing poetic about how they met armand and immediately fell in love with him, this beautiful ethereal cherub who was so smart and interesting and magnetic, and then armand revealed himself to be a horrible little freak of a guy and they still loved him anyway. armand pushed lestat off a tower and broke every bone in his body, he cut off his first boyfriend's hands, he forced him to participate in a trial to kill his daughter, and yet when lestat sees armand in the modern day he's still like oh my god armand baby hiiiiiiii~ 😍💖💕 because he can't stay mad at armand. and daniel oh my god, daniel doesn't even see armand as this beautiful angel from a renaissance painting like absolutely everyone else does, he sees him as this fucked up evil creature who's killed a million people and he's like hell yeah i'm in love with you please make me a vampire so we can be fucked up evil creatures together forever please please please
and first two seasons had that vibe down. armand is ancient and beautiful and sympathetic and strange, with his big sad orange eyes and a face you could literally find in the louvre in the same room as the mona lisa. he's a little bit uncanny, eerily unmoving in the way that is unsettling, a good way to convey visually that vampires become more and more like statues the older they get. and he does terrible things but you the viewer understands WHY he's doing them so you can't stay mad at him. yeah sure blame the guy who's fault it is, i stand with my cancelled wife, free my man he did all that shit but i don't care, etc etc etc
but in tvl armand is being punished for being loved by the audience. because we weren't supposed to love him, no one loves him, he's a horrible pathetic little gremlin who is evil for the sake of being evil, he's miserable and pitiful but you shouldn't pity him too much because look at this disgusting act of violence he's doing for basically no reason! he can't still be your favourite character after this! lestat makes fun of his csa and tells him to go kill himself, and daniel calls him a bottom twink (said like a slur) and gags at the idea of armand confessing his love, and louis can only show him a crumb of sympathy after being horrifically tortured by him first
and what's so different about book armand and show armand? what's the ONE BIG DIFFERENCE about the character of armand in the books and who armand is in the show? and what big changes happened in the writers room that might have caused this significant shift in the way that we the audience are being expected to percieve the character of armand?
(this is an essay question, rolin jones. and i want it on my desk by monday morning. 1500 words minimum)

I finally managed to finish this drawing. It was inspired by the rumors about the 3rd season of Trop, with a more fantastical touch from my imagination.
armandstat + parallels
we are kith and kin, armand and me.
A gothic horror show with a chilling twist: the horror is reserved exclusively for the Black characters.
Are you into watching Black characters suffer for no reason other than shock value? Are you into watching Black characters be tortured, then made to apologize to their abusers? Are you into Black characters being told that slavery is in their DNA? Are you into watching Black characters be branded like cattle by their torturer and abuser? Are you into watching Black characters be brutalized, humiliated, and blamed for their own suffering? Do you enjoy victim-blaming? What about abuse apologia? Are you drawn to narratives that seem more interested in excusing these things than condemning them?
If so, then The Vampire Lestat, streaming on AMC+, is the show for you. You'll love it.
And don't feel bad. After all, it's just fiction, and fiction has nothing to do with the real world. We all live in a vacuum, right?
Official poster + We're getting the teaser on Friday.
