I dream of a world where readers of fanfiction outpour all the feelings they felt while reading. I dream of readers sharing their headcanons it reminded them of, or new ones it spawned. I dream of discourse thatâs friendly among readers who all like the same fic, a unique dynamic for longform content that would not and could not exist to a bunch of different people immediately reacting to a 10 second video, with mixed opinions. This could naturally happen in a comment section, if weâd just let it. If we did not leave it to the AI Bots to spit out commentary, and the humans be silent. I dream of a world where readers speculate in the comments what will happen, and that may change the course of the story. I dream of a world where fandom becomes an INTERPLAY of people again, not this accidental echo of mindless consumption that corporations have us hooked on.
