Hey there. I don't think I'll make many original posts on here, but I wanted to introduce myself anyway.

- You can call me Octo, I guess. I'm a female in my late 20s. I peaked around Nov. 2025 after coming to the conclusion that "gender" and "gender roles" are essentially the same thing. I kept asking myself what it meant to feel like a woman, and I just couldn't come up with an answer. My sex, on the other hand, is a biological reality. Never really "felt" like a woman, whatever that means.

- Was raised Mormon. The treatment of women was one of the main reasons I left. Might talk about my experience growing up in the church later.

- Radfem leaning. I'm in the beginning stages of learning more about radical feminism and refining my stances as I go.

- not every reblog is an endorsement- I reblog things I find interesting, or that bring a new perspective to the table.

- this is a sideblog. Most fandom/crafting/art stuff stays on my main. My interests include knitting (and other misc. crafts), reading (mostly sci-fi/fantasy), and video games (legend of zelda, animal crossing, stardew valley). If we have similar interests I would love to chat!

- I've been with my male partner for 5 years now, and while I love him very much and we make a great team, I've been unable to bring up any of this radfem/gender critical stuff to him. I don't really have anybody in my life I can talk to about this, thus this blog was born.

I've dealt with crippling shyness for most of my life. In college things got a lot better- I was still pretty awkward, but I was able to meet a lot of new people and make some really great friends! I really thought I had defeated shyness forever. But since covid, and then moving to a new state four years ago, it's back in a bad way. I just feel crushed under the realization that I'm the same shy person I always was. I guess if I work at it, my social abilities will come back, but it just feels like I have to work at it harder than most folks.

Writing this all out, I'm starting to think that a change of environment is in order. I've been trying to make things work in this place for the past four years. it's time to seriously consider moving somewhere else. I'm going back to community college for a certificate- it'll give me the qualifications to enter a different field that will bring me more satisfaction and the opportunity to relocate, not to mention the chance to meet more like-minded people.

The Norwegian team on the left got fined a ridiculous amount of money for wearing shorts to the games

When you compare the men and women, it becomes very clear how sexist the uniforms are.

It’s not just the uniforms and skin exposed (the men get to wear pants that cover their legs and feet and the women don’t, the women’s uniforms are glittery/sequined and the men’s are not) it’s also the posing (the men are just standing, the women are contorting their bodies into what I would guess are supposed to be enticing postures) and the styling (the women have their hair done and are all wearing makeup).

Yes, gymnastics is about flexibility, but it’s also about strength and athleticism. The men get to stand and thump their chests and chalk their hands. Why can’t the women do the same? Imagine if the men were posing like the women were. Wouldn’t it look ridiculous? Imagine now the men are also wearing glittery uniforms that show half their ass and leave their legs bare. The men are shaved and are all wearing makeup and hair gel in addition to the poses the women are doing, legs kicked high and quarter turns with arms flared. If you think that imagined image is degrading for the men’s team, then it is equally degrading for the women’s team too. You’re just used to women being degradeed.

parents of 6+ kids say that they have enough love and resources for their kids, so it's ok to have that many. but that only works if you think of love as a feeling alone and resources as money alone.

i'm sure you love (feeling) each of your 6+ kids as much as the parents of 1-2 kids love theirs. i'm glad that you have the resources (money) to keep them all fed and clothed. however, you literally cannot love (action, attention, consideration) them enough or have enough resources (time, mental allocation, space) to meet their emotional needs.

As a woman in a fair few male dominated spaces, nothing annoys me more than seeing men come into a female dominated space like 'oh I'm so scared, I'm so worried. Is there space here for little old me? Will you welcome the smol bean that is me?"

Because 90% of the time they're just attention seeking and also a woman can't do that in a male space because it would count against her immediately. Women in male professions/hobbies have to bravado everything. You know you're not welcome, and you have to force them to even give you a chance, and they fight you at every step.

If I turned up to my motorcycle school with the "I'm a nervous widdle baby pls validate me" attitude that men turn up to our crafting group with, then they wouldn't have let me in the door.

Women can't show any weakness, men get to act like fucking babies and receive fawning compliments and welcomes.

right wing handwringing over birth rates has always unsubtly been a combination of wanting more white babies/wanting control over women, so it's bothersome that the popular response to that is just pointing out the cost of living. "we Would be having more kids if you guys made some positive changes to society" and such. pronatalist sentiment is becoming so much more explicit that I don't think many self-styled progressives are ready to reconcile with the fact that many women simply do not want to have children. we already see how women are demonized for refusing to undertake the thankless burdens of their mother and grandmother's generations lol, I can't imagine how full abdication from child rearing will come across to some people.

I can't even see "we Would be having kids" as a strategic approach to get conservatives to consider advocating for a higher quality of life considering that they truly could not care less if you, specifically, are poor. it's true that more couples would have kids if it was cheaper, but that will not be enough for these types until women's subservience is codified. even now, they consider the lack of child rearing in today's insane society to be a matter of selfishness. they view themselves as completely different animals than you. they have and will continue to advocate for more advantages for people of their specific backgrounds and income brackets to reinforce this lol.

being a girl and hitting puberty is so traumatic. you go from being a genderless little free thing to being hit with shaving and makeup and growing breasts and skincare and menstruation and suddenly being sexualised when like a few years ago you could take your shirt off to play in the stream and trade yugioh cards with the boys and come home covered in mud and not even think about it. and then you spend years hating being a girl and hating everything puberty did to you and wishing you could be a boy or be completely genderless again and it takes you Many years to come to terms with yourself Or you simply try to Lean In to everything and do makeup tutorials on YouTube and claim it’s for fun. like how can this be treated as normal
