Taking a 40 minute break from the BookConline panels this afternoon for some food and to read a little bit.
I am currently reading “Tell The Story to It’s End” but this con has definitely given me a bunch more books and authors to read.
Already in my list of loved authors: Nic Stone, Angie Thomas, Becky Albertelli
New authors: Adam Silvera, Aisha Saeed
We always talk about how annoying it is when people think the library is a quiet place to work.
But today.
I was back in the library. Just me and one coworker on my floor and a circ aid who was shelving on multiple floors so rotated through.
No patrons.
AND IT WAS SO QUIET
AND I HATED IT
I have 8 more hours of work there this week with nobody but my coworker and I. Then next week we begin to offer curbside. No idea if our phone will be ringing non stop or if its gonna be pretty chill still? Anybody else out there doing library curbside pick ups?
Curbside is not going anywhere near as intense as I thought it would be. I know it’s only been a couple of days and I think we will probably see an increase once it’s summer or once the rain comes back. We also are making take home packets each week so once those start (in June) I think people will start coming
I am working my way through our juvenile fiction classroom sets!
What book do you most remember reading in school? What book were you supposed to read in school but you never did?
I recently finished On My Honor and am surprised we never read it growing up. Today’s reads (after the SLJ webinar on engagement in isolation) Flat Stanley and then White Bird. Both are pretty short so I shouldn’t have trouble finishing both of them before my next shift.

A Covid 19 update
I have read a lot of books and watched a lot of webinars and listened to a lot of podcast over the past couple months working from home. I’ve been filming a 6ish minute long stories and steam weekly but I really do miss my 45 minutes of in person time with actual kids.
I am very excited, although slightly nervous, to be back in my building starting on Tuesday. We will be opening for curbside pick up a week after that and I am again excited though slightly nervous.
Summer reading is only happening in the month of July and will be online as well.
This is not at all how I expected to be spending the last year of my 20s but here we are!
I hope you all enjoy the journey with me through podcasts, books, reopenings, and more!
February Owlcrate
Just got the notification while I am at work that my owlcrate has been delivered, my guess for the book is Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto.
I will let you guys know tonight when I get home if I was correct
I have been slower at getting through my 6 books this month...I’ve read 3 other books though.
So far I have read 2 graphic novels. One was called Sheets by Brenna Thummler and I LOOOOVED it. I read Ridley Pearsons “Super sons” and I thought I’d love it because batman and supermans children....what’s not to love...but I did not.
But you know what I DID love...Holly Black’s The Cruel Prince! I can not wait until my hold the The Wicked King comes in and I really wish I had ordered the Owlcrate special box when it came out.
Speaking of Owlcrate...does anyone think they know what book is coming in February? I have my guess but I am going to wait a few days to post it.
February!
As I mentioned, I am in the middle of Ivy Aberdeen’s Letter to the World and Cruel Prince.
This months “grid” books are:
Poetry: Mouthful of Forevers
Nonfiction: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
MiddleGrade: The Crossover
Classic: The Scarlett Letter
Contemporary: Happiness for Beginners
Script: Fences
I am also super excited because a few of my coworkers and I have started a book group and we are starting this month with the book “ How to Be a Good Creature: A Memoir in Thirteen Animals”
January Recap
I finished all 6 of my books on my 72 book grid for January, plus 3 other books.
My grid included: Around the World in Eighty Days (a quick fun read of a classic book), a book of poems called Lord of the Butterflies, a very insightful and thought provoking non fiction book titled “Jesus + Nothing = Everything”, a script of Judgement at Nuremberg (an interesting read given the current political climate), the 2nd and 3rd books in the volume I like Him He Likes her of Alice books, and the Librarian of Auschwitz.
I really enjoyed all of these books but Librarian of Auschwitz was probably my favorite with Judgement at Nuremberg being my least favorite.
In addition to my grid I also read a nonfiction book called Unafraid and two middle grade fiction books, Wednesday Wars and Lifeboat 12 which were both good books but also a little heavy. I am hoping February brings a couple of lighter reads.

Owlcrate
January Owlcrate Spoiler says: “Our book pick is an intricate and mysterious tale about a group of misfits seeking a very important artifact. Join them as they lurk around the city streets of historical Paris – what dark secrets will they encounter?”
What book do you guys think is coming this month? My guess is The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi
I was correct! It is Gilded Wolves and it’s a beautiful cover. I am really excited for this book and can’t wait to read it (hopefully soon!)
I also loved the DH socks (I had a party this weekend where shoes weren’t allowed so the timing on getting those were great) and am going to be bringing the tapestry in to work to replace a mediocre Peter Pan painting I made last year.
What was your favorite thing from your Owlcrate? Are you excited for the February Whimsical Beast box? I know I am!
I created a groundhog day challenge for one of the goodreads groups that I’m in :)

My Netgalley review of Lord of the Butterflies
Okay so I know this book is already out but if you haven’t read it PLEASE DO.
I loved this book. Andrea Gibson is a very talented poet and even though many of our life experiences are very different so I didn't "relate to" as many of their poems as I do with other writers, I loved reading them. A few of my favorite poems from this collection included "Ode to the Panic Attack" and "The Day you Died Because You Wanted To". Battling subjects from self worth in "All the Good in You" (which honestly everyone should post on their bathroom mirror), to political climate in "Thankstaking" and "America Wakes Me in the Middle of the Night" to mental health in the previously mentioned "Ode to the Panic Attack" to gender/sexuality related poems such as "Bad at Love" and "Gender in the Key of Lyme Disease" there is something here for everyone. Thanks for another great collection of poetry!
My first book finished in 2019 was...
Around the World in 80 Days.
I am currently reading
-Lord of the Butterflies
-Jesus + Nothing = Everything
and
-The Librarian of Auscwitz.
January Books
As promised here are the books I am reading next month
NonFiction: Jesus + Nothing = Everything (quite a few of my NF picks are Christian books but not all of them will be...)
Poetry: Lord of the Butterflies by Andrea Gibson (it took a lot of effort to save this book but I wanted to start off with a poetry book I’d love and I trust this one!)
Classic: Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne (this was a change up after my grid was made when my friends did an absolutely adorable production of this show!)
Script: Judgement at Nuremburg
Middle grade: Simply Alice (this is book 14 in a series I stopped reading for awhile but want to get back to)
Contemporary: The Librarian of Auschwitz
I originally wanted to have a theme each month, and I will be holding the theme slightly better in some months than others. January 27th is Holocaust Rememberance day so I wanted to read a few books that fit that category. I have already read The Diary of Anne Frank and didn’t want to get too heavy to start off. If I finish these 6 books my bonus book for the month will be The Book Thief to tie in to that piece of history.
2019
So I’m not doing goodreads competitions...so how do I decide what to read?
Don’t worry! I have a grid of 72 books already made. Each month I will be reading 6 books from 6 genres: one nonfiction book, one middle grade book, one book of poetry, one script, one contemporary novel (YA or up), and one classic novel. I have a BEAUTIFUL reading planner from my December Owlcrate (if you don’t subscribe you should really think about it! let me know if you want my referral code!) that I think will help me stay on track.
I am really excited about this as I think it will help me to read some books I maybe wouldn’t otherwise but it is also helping me step back from competitions and reading just to get it done. I hope you guys follow along for this exciting journey! Although I already have my 72 books all picked out, I will inform you all of each set of 6 on the last day of the previous month so that you know what to be looking out for!
