Figured I might as well share this because why not but I have been working on another world building project that isn’t Rum angels, it’s called Evaria and it’s a fantasy land with magic and stuff. I haven’t gotten the lore fully down yet so I’m probably just gonna show you the map point out the major cultures/races and call it a day.
There’s the map. Look at it. Are you done looking at it? Ok cool here’s some info. Evaria is about the size of Alaska, non of these names are final, and raw magic is leaking in from the side
They’re humans, bog standard fantasy humans. There split into 2 different groups, the people of the central plane who basic Western European, ya know your Frances and your Germanys, boring stuff like that. They are famed for their architecture, in particular the city of Punzrik set near the base of the mountain of the same name is often viewed as a cultural hub.
The Veltic people’s are from the velt and they fill the role of the Hungarian but they probably would have darker skin. They are famed for their skills in archery and their terror bird cavalry.
Humans are a hardy race but they struggle with magic. This has led to humans often being stereotyped as unintelligent brutes. This is not true. One look at Punzrik will tell you that, but even other human city’s can disprove this claim. And should you be lucky enough to hear a Veltic ballad or see a Veltic shadow puppet play then you’ll see that it’s not just the fancy architecture of the central people’s.
Now there are other reasons why humans may be maligned other then the aren’t good with magic, mainly stemming from human bandits and especially war lords doing not very nice things, but also their encroachment upon wilderness like the great wilds and especially the rainy woods. The rainy wood in particular has seen some of the encroaching duchys and fiefdoms have used the enslavement of the local Beastian peoples. And unfortunately this horade practice has spread in the into central regions I’ll be it to a much lesser extent.
Now of course not all human kingdoms or city states endorse this institution, whether it was merely banning the sale or the practice all together, and of course slave rebellions are a common occurrence, but it is still worth mentioning.
Scarabs are a beetle like race hailing from the river system at the mouth of the ash dunes. They are inspired by the west African city of Timbuktu, the Arabs and Mesopotamia (not the Latin American version) and live in a great many city states. They are famed for their vast collection of knowledge and their mastery of spells.
Now all this knowledge has been known to get to their heads a little, which has led to them being seen as prideful knowitall ass holes and that nobody else can possibly understand our high level of intelligence, also known as NERDS! However, many other Scarabs resolved to teach other peoples of their of their wisdom but to also learn the knowledge of others. Also they love trading.
Unfortunately the Scarabs also engage in slavery, come on man I said they were based off of Timbuktu this was kind of a given. Now they don’t really differentiate by race, they do it to all peoples which is still bad obviously.
But with the Scarab world being such an arena of knowledge debates about morality and slavery has lead to a movement for abolition, a small movement, but a movement nonetheless.
Elvs live in the snowy forested fjord lands of Evaria. They are slit up into different groups, the Ruthu (classical elvs), the Kobali (goblins/kobalds), and the Onga (Ogres). They draw most of their inspiration from the Sami of Scandinavia but I am also considering incorporating influences from the Ainu.
Elvs are naturally tolerant to cold temperatures, they are also incredibly stealthy and posses the ability to digest raw meat. They are famed for their fishing, seriously they catch SO many fish, their hauntingly beautiful songs, and their ski warriors.
Elvs are often seen as monstrous and animalistic by people who either have never met one or probably only met them during warfare as Elvs are very friendly except for maybe the Onga. For the Kobali however, it’s a bit more complicated.
Long ago there was a mad Kobali sorcerer named Rekedhar /r̊ekeðar̊/. Rekedhar formed a great and terrible army to bring about eternal night. He brought the Kobali and Onga under his comand. Some chose to fight by his side, others resisted but failed. Thankfully Rekedhar was defeated by 3 legndary hero’s but that is a story for another time.
Bestians are animal people, and no it’s not like trans puppy girls and anarchist cat boys, these are like anthro furry people, so I guess exactly like the aforementioned groups actually. They are split up into Felines, Canids, and Bears and they are based off of the Pueblo peoples of New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona. The Canids are known for their comradely, The Bears are known for their Strength, And the Felines are known for their hunting. They are all known for their Oral traditions.
Bestians much like Elv are often stereotyped as savage animals, which is of course complete Bull shit, but the Felines often get it the worst Because they don’t have a home land (like the Roma and Jews) and thus “ThEY caN’t PosSiblY be A peOPlE thEy dOn’T hAve a HOmE LaNd” is an argument often used by Feline slave owners or people who are bigoted against Felines. Hell some of the Canids have beef with the Felines.
As a result of the bigotry Felines have faced they constitute a large amount of bandits, thieves, and other unsavory things, not because they wanted to, but because they were forced to by society. Bears and Canids also deal with similar bigotry and face the same problems as the Felines.
And yet, despite all the strife they have endured, the Bestians have held on too an indomitable spirit, they have always been here, and they always will be here.
The fay are probably the smallest cultural group that exists in Evaria, they only exist on the Fay isle and in the great wilds, they are ruled by the Fay Queen.
The Fay are mainly interested I saving Evaria from all manner of threats, so long as they are sworn to the Queen, however those that aren’t enjoy rage baiting literally everyone (although with the Elvs it’s more of a whimsy competition). Important the Fay sworn to the Queen enlist the help of member of all the other races in order to protect Evaria from destruction.
Also the Fay Queen is trans.
