op disabled reblogs but I think the point still stands
reminder that the books themselves also suck ass actually. there's an entire plotline endorsing slavery. the one character who advocates to end slavery is bullied and made fun of. the one slave who doesnt like being enslaved is bullied and treated as an outcast. the bankers are the picture of racist stereotypes of jewish people. the one asian character is named fckn Cho Chang. the worldbuilding SUCKS. fuck harry potter and fuck rowling. stop giving her your money.
This is all true, but we need to talk about how to explain JK Rowling to normies who aren't in any of the circles where JK Rowling's awful choices are discussed regularly. How do you talk to someone who, if you mention Harry Potter, says, "Oh, I really liked those books" or "Oh, I really liked those movies?" and get them to understand what a shitstain she is without seeming to just be calling THEM names for saying they liked something?
Yes, she mocks rape victims. She threatens litigation against the mildest criticism against her. She has created an LGB group to make it so very clear that trans people are not welcome where she gives money. She is the funding behind Scotland saying trans women aren't legally women. The list goes on.
But. I promise you, 99% of the people around you don't know she's done any of this because they aren't following her social media or stories about her. To them, she is just the author of those fun wizard books. You gotta talk about how she's SO WEIRD and ISN'T IT SAD.
You need to tell the normies how she uses the funds from all her payout agreements for ALL Harry Potter licensing, including the re-release of these movies.
"It's so fucking weird. It's so fucking off-putting. It's so fucking sad." Say that over and over. Don't try to tie it into larger ideas. This is not how people will listen. "Isn't it just fucking sad she has all this money that could go to literacy or scholarships, and she's using it to attack people who are just living their lives? What a weird fucking choice."
We need to out-Morbius Morbius in terms of this tanking, and the way you do that is talk to normies about how fucking WEIRD and RUDE she is. How ODD that the second Fantastic Beasts movie gave a "actually, fascism isn't too bad" vibe all the way through and especially at the end. How she has complained that the child actors from those movies particularly don't agree with her views on trans people and that she's publicly said that's why she wanted a new show.
What a WEIRD thing to say about child actors you worked with over a decade ago. It's so WEIRD she would care that those child actors have different opinions than her. It's really SAD she apparently has no hobbies except posting on social media about how she hates trans people. A beloved author who could be using her name to raise money for animal rescues and homeless people and all sorts of really great causes that could improve people's lives, and she's out here doing THIS? It just bums me out. I just can't support someone who uses their money to harass and harm other people like this. I don't know WHY she acts like this or WHY she's chosen to make it her whole personality, but it just makes it really hard for me to want to support any Harry Potter stuff, even when I loved it so much. Knowing any money made from that franchise goes into her pocket to just pour out onto orgs and laws that tell adults they can't just live their lives and be left alone is WEIRD.
And then say what you're gonna be doing instead. You know, I'm going to go and find some new fantasy books at the library. I'm going to boardgame day down at the game store. I'm going to a stitching group. I'm going to host a 1980s fantasy fest at my place; do you have any favorites you recommend? We should have a film fest where we watch all the movies that scared the shit out of us as kids.
If the normie goes, "Well, I'm going anyway," say, "Okay," and change the subject. If they try to justify because you clearly aren't into their decision, don't let them. "Hey, do whatever you want. I'll be [doing whatever you said you'd be doing." And then change the subject again. You don't have to threaten to cut someone off or yell at them or say they're terrible. They have to make the decision on their own, but you can make your point in a way that hopefully resonates and also refuse to back down but also refuse to absolve them.
DCxDP Prompt/Idea
Becoming a halfa rendered Danny sterile. When he first found out about this, Danny didn't really care much. I mean, he was a teenager/young adult, so he wasn't exactly thinking about kids. But now, as he's older, he's a bit sad. He knows he has other options, adopting kids, or marrying someone with with kids, he could still be a dad, but a small part of him can't help but still feel sad, can't help but still want a biological kid.
And then he was presented with an opportunity. After crashing a new pop up cloning lab with the rest of the Justice League, Phantom stumbles upon the only stable pod. Inside, is a little baby with sparkling white hair, and a small, stable, baby ghost core. The moment Phantom holds them, hes smitten, chirping and cooing over the delicate little bundle in his arms, all but melted when they reached out to grasp his fingers.
The only problem was, this clone had the DNA of another hero, another hero also had claim to this baby, but Phantom wasn't sure he'd be willing to give the baby up.
Basically: Sterile Phantom wants kids but knows it can't really happen. He works with the Justice League and one day finds a clone made using his and [hero of your choosing]'s DNA, and Phantom fears how the other "parent" will react.
What if the other parent is someone who's dead — or dead at the time cause, y'know, comics?
Danny would obviously get primary custody in that case; being the only living genetic donor; but he'd probably also share with/get roped into the family of the other hero so they have plenty of visitation time with this little echo of their loved one.
Then, if it's during one of those 'not really dead' plotlines; you could have a bit of drama when the other hero comes back some months/years later.
Batman is lost to the time stream.
Phantom realizes this at some point. Probably because he tries to check in with Bruce's kids. Only to find out that Robin was replaced. Then he finds out about the drama that occured, with Tim being called crazy. Danny asks to see the evidence that Tim tried to show before. Dick tries to brush Phantom off and just have them focus on the baby, but Phantom doesn't trust Dick. After all, he has heard a little of what the Blood Son tried to do to Tim. And is very suspicious about how not a single person in the manor knows where Tim is. Read: he thinks Damian did something to Tim and Dick brushed it off or is hiding the evidence. He doesn't trust Dick near the baby. So he goes searching for Tim.
Long story short, Bruce comes back into the timeline. Only to find out that there's a baby that everyone else knows is his. He thinks he fell into the wrong timeline.
Rb-ing this one for the "thinks he fell into the Wrong Timeline" part, as the Best argument for that parent and timing. HA.
Man is SO confused, and Concerned. Can he be introduced to Clockwork? Because he might need to be introduced to Clockwork. Possibly AFTER he nagged the entire League into contributing their own methods of confirming he is The Right Batman in The Right Timeline, because that's more trustworthy than some unknown who may have an agenda.
such insolence... guards? seize her! ...no. stop. not like that. you are doing it gay. why are you seizing her gay style

Grace is having a similar problem to Rocky, Rocky cannot seem to just give Grace his full attention sometimes which is fine mostly but.. well. Grace is a little greedy and a little bored, and one day he’s rummaging around in the storage area, opening boxes he’s never opened before and he finds..
A dog whistle!!
He almost goes to blow on it experimentally but then he pauses.
This is a brilliant scientific opportunity!!
Grace has about a million thoughts at once but it all boils down to this: Can Eridians be trained to react positively to certain sounds?
ilya pre-outing having a picture of the sunset at the cottage as his phone lockscreen. like all of his other references only shane would understand, he does this because he feels like it's a way he can keep shane close to him when they aren't together. everyone else has pictures with their wife, their children, both as their backgrounds and damn it ilya wants to do that so bad. he wants to make the picture of shane and anya in matching ROZANOV 81 jerseys his lockscreen but he can't, so this will have to do
and the centaurs notice! he rarely leaves his phone laying around like he used to be so lax doing, but occasionally the centaurs will get a glimpse of that background and just wonder. someone comments on it one day and asks where it is, do you have a vacation home roz you should bring us one day during the off season, and ilya just shrugs. it's a sunset. it'll be months years weeks before they ever know that shane and his parents are just off frame, and cut out of the photo is anya's collar they took off while she was swimming, and his mother is in that sunset. they won't know that picture is all of his favorite people
straight white people making a romance movie: haha what if it was illegal to have sex? wait what's lawrence v texas. wait what's mclaughlin v florida. wait what's loving v virginia
As preposterous and stupid as this fucking movie's premise sounded (for a light-hearted rom-com, and not The Handmaid's Tale) I didn't want to think about it too much until the movie actually came out, and then I could see if it was somehow more intelligent and subversive than the trailer let on, but guess what, it's even worse!
If this is what it takes to get a rom-com greenlit these days, maybe we should just let them die.
Sex workers are thrown under the bus, shown only as thieves who fleece men in the woods at night, while queer sexuality is relegated to a few scenes with Allie’s roommate (a woefully underused Quintessa Swindell) and a handful of pans past blurry same-sex extras making out in the background. “This night is for the straights,” Swindell’s character says to Allie, before saying that queer people have worked around straight laws for centuries. This is supposed to be a nod to queer resilience, but largely comes off as straightwashing the history of anti-LGBTQ legislation in this country that led towards raids of queer clubs and incarceration of queer people in the not-too-distant past (let alone the current barrage of anti-Trans and LGBTQ legislation currently in the works and on the books). It’s also ignorant of the long and fraught fight for the normalization of age-of-consent laws, which, by the way, did not happen in all states in this very country until 2003. Yes, that’s not even thirty years ago. By the end, our intrepid protagonists have not had sex with anyone, because this is a film about Romance with a Capital R (and I guess sex is not part of romance!) and for that very same reason they ultimately embrace the fascist state of things. They aren’t the only ones who refuse to fight back. No one in this cursed film is protesting this mandate beyond “repeal” signs in various windows and some creative graffiti (...) (...) If we are supposed to believe that the film is making some subversive statement about the state of sex and bodily autonomy in this country, it cannot end with its leads embracing their chains. That’s just warmed-over conservatism running around in sheep’s clothing.
yeah i wrote this post having only seen the trailer, but jesus christ. was this movie a psyop LMAO??
also, for the unaware: mclaughlin v. florida was a 1964 supreme court case that struck down a florida anti-miscegenation law that criminalized cohabitation (and thus, as implied, sex) between white people and people of color of opposite genders. anti-miscegenation laws made marriage and sexual relationships between white people and people of color, most often specifically black people, a FELONY in several states in the united states up until the 1950s and 1960s. though it was already struck down by the supreme court, the state of alabama didn't repeal their law until 2000! there were THREE ATTEMPTS at codifying anti-miscegenation into the us constitution!
like yes, the issue here is partially straight white people's ignorance on the united states's history of homophobic policy, but it's also really important to recognize that arguably the majority of the issue here is straight white people's ignorance of the united states's history of codifying eugenics and antiblack racism.
the premise could have been interesting as a serious dystopian story, especially taking that history into account, but it wasn't written that way at all. this movie should never have been a fucking romcom making light of the violence the united states (and many other countries) has enacted on any kinds of sexual relationships it deems undesirable.
can y’all maybe reblog this version i feel like people are forgetting about the racism and just focusing on the homophobia
I won't ever get over the removal of headphone jacks, or micro sd slots, or cd drives. I won't. Fuck everyone and everything
Heated Rivalry — 1x06 ⤷ COMING OUT (part 2/2)
(sources below)
It’s so important to practice, practice, practice
The Ring of Rage sits upon the Ghost King's left hand, just as it has for all of time. It collects the King's anger, clearing their mind and storing it away for a better time, a better use. Pariah Dark's conquest was fuelled by its power and nearly depleted it. The new King (Phantom, they call him, but the Ring calls him Dan-Dan. The Ring thinks it's funny) has enough passive anger to comfortably fill it back up. ("I have issues," Dan-Dan tells it one night, "lots and lots of issues. I get it from my grandfather.") It takes on a less discreet form, at the request of the King, when they go on trips. Usually a little silver band. Sometimes gold, if the Ring is feeling particularly happy. But it likes taking on known forms. It's in its nature, of course. The Ring of a nearly god-like King should be known. Feared. Not that the King cares exceptionally much.
But the King doesn't oppose the Ring's changes. He even hums (a low vibration that would make a weaker artifact shiver) and runs his thumb across the Ring's new form. It's red now, with two curved lines and a circle on top. The King's never seen it turn red, let alone have a symbol. When he asks, the Ring proudly tells him that there are rings that feed off of anger in this new dimension. Why shouldn't it look like them?
Danny is suddenly meeting people (the civilian dressed Justice League) who treat him very nicely.
AU where Simon Mutates into a tree instead 👀
In this AU Ryland has been living on Erid for a while and is fully engaged with Eridian culture.
They decide to send more automated ships out to save other stars besides just Earth’s and Eric’s star. On the way the find a red moon fully filled with trees and plant life. The soil is obviously made with dead plant matter but it also seems to show sign of being made with blood as well…but that’s impossible, right?
They explore this planet directly by sending a team of Eridians and Ryland. They end up showing that a large portion of the plant life derives from one specific tree. The tree is large and the root grow deep into the moon. It must be hundreds of years old.
The Eridians claim the tree has a heart beat and that there is a human inside. Ryland thinks they must be mistaking a primate looking creature that lives in the tree for human. When they finally dig into the tree they find a man stuck in a coma keeping the tree alive with his heart.
The Eridians want to take the man back but Ryland worries that either the man is keeping the whole forest alive or that the tree is keeping the man alive.
They figured that, since the moon’s star died out a long time ago, they could take the man back with them to attempt to keep him alive so he doesn’t end up dying with forest.
Cue bloodymary tree Simon shenanigans!!

Rocky and Adrian bringing their younger set of pebble children to visit their weird fleshy uncles!
I personally imagine both Ryland and Simon take a while to adjust and be comfortable with physical touch, despite both being touch starved as well (thanks to trauma ;u;). So this would take place well after the long burn of slowly and naturally allowing themselves to feel safe and secure with each other to close that space. It's hard for them to trust anyone again, but I like to believe they choose to trust each other in the end.
