Nobody asked but I decided to re-read Windbreaker (yes, again) and I want to express my love for the way expressions are drawn. So I’m choosing my favorite expression/panel by each chapter and talking about it :)

Pt. 1! Chapters 1-5

Chapter One

So lowkey I had a hard time choosing one, it was harder than I thought. But this one was because we see that Sakura’s truly a kind boy, and he’s been hurt by so many people that this is the face of a kid thinking that being kind was being “weak” and he was only going to continue to get hurt. Hiragi saving him is truly one of the first acts of kindness in response to his kindness.

Chapter Two

He’s so determined and you can feel it with every line in this scene, and there’s just so much detail. We see very early on Nirei is not an emotionally or morally weak person, his resolve is just as strong as everyone else’s. He just doesn’t see himself like this.

Chapter Three

I absolutely love the way the shading gives me charcoal vibes. Like every character has their own style and I feel we can even see/sense it in the way they’re drawn, and Sugishita’s messy but powerful, and the charcoal shading and the smudges inder his fist and the almost sketchy feeling in the lines??? I can’t explain it.

Chapter Four

Anytime we see Sakura’s face after he gets true, genuine affection will always stab me in the heart. This poor boy is so unused to people being kind and gentle and loving he doesn’t know how to respond.

Chapter Five

*ahem* they’re just such badasses

Suo is extremely overrated like woah ..m this kid is talking like mature adult. All he does is being nirei's dog atp

and for the record I feel like Suo’s over hated :P

He’s that one mysterious character that gets readers on their toes dying to find out his backstory.

It builds tension to the overall story and shows how much thought Nii-sensei put into designing and making each character unique as they are.

I don’t really get the talking mature part, though. Is having a relatively mature mindset a bad thing?

Don’t make me laugh.

Just because he isn’t fooling around like a typical teenager doesn’t make him weird or overrated, either.

And Nirei’s dog? God forbid a person to want to protect their friend 😭😭

Sakura does this too- he literally fought off a bunch of punks for Nirei on his first day of school… and that’s when they barely knew each other.

Does that make our GOAT a dog for him too? Probably. (He will never admit this)

Is it an insult? Hell no.

Don’t go hating if you don’t like the character, please.

PREACH!!! IVE NEVER UNDERSTOOD THE HATE!!!! i love suo’s character- i think he matches the dynamic perfectly and i think nii sensei is doing a wonderful job with all the tension in the story right now, leading up to everyone’s back stories!! it just makes me more excited truth be told!!!! <33
