defending religion is crazy business, you're only validating the terfs even more
organized religion = bad
it is inherently dangerous to have someone else tell you what the divine wants. it creates unhealthy power dynamics, it justifies oppression
but which is the cause and which is the effect?
misogyny doesn’t go away without religion. i was really active on r/atheism around ElevatorGate and it absolutely made it clear that women hating is not a *product* of religion, more that religion is often used as a *justification* for woman hating
Christianity has been used to oppress and harm women, as pretty much every other religion has
but does that mean we have to throw it out? is there really no value to be found?
i’m not a literalist by any means. the Bible was written by humans attempting to grapple with the divine, and many of those humans were fucked up. a lot of the OT is also political - a narrative uniting Judah and the Northern Kingdom as a single polity
but i like the idea of Jesus so much. the idea that god would *choose* to suffer, to try to understand what it is to be like us. that he would have to experience the same aches and pains that go with being human, that he would take torture and death as an anti-colonial revolutionary
and think about how Jesus treats women! how he doesn’t see a prostitute as “impure,” how he honestly treats them as equals. many leaders in the early church were women! the first to see the empty tomb were women!
idk, is there really something wrong with hope? the idea of salvation and forgiveness; that someday the sheep and the goats will be separated?
