I received my first “bare minimum” annual employee review yesterday. It’s scored on a 1-5 scale. Per company policy nobody gets a five. Ever. 1 means you need re-training in that area. 2 means you meet minimum requirements for that area. I got a 2 in 4/6 categories. I would like to figure out how I can get those 3s down to 2s.
For example, it was noted that I “may” have superior knowledge but I don’t share it with my coworkers. Yes, I am one of the old guard who were here back when the County administered our program. Yes, by contract if I am training a coworker I am to receive “proctor” pay. That is not offered, so I am not training. No extra money for me means I’m a dunce at work.
My written and verbal communication skills were rated as a 3 “successfully meets all performance standards”. Being a weirdo outcast in an office setting I know for a fact that my verbal skills are already fucked so I’d better focus on worsening my written communication. How can I make my written communication worse without getting my head examined?
Job knowledge relevant to position was also rated as a 3. Unfortunately I am still seen as an expert in this area despite literally forgetting everything from the County days. I ask my supervisor multiple dumb questions daily in attempt to prove my worthlessness as an employee. What more can I do here?
I don’t recommend this course of action in actual work duties. I am proficient in my work and do my best to be effective when working with people. Also I am union, so I’m not getting fired for being incompetent…yet.
You gotta understand that some people never really grow. They never learn their lesson. They never recognise their mistakes, they never acknowledge their faults, they never admit they were in the wrong. You will never receive an apology from them, and you will never see their behaviour change.
And this is karma.
Karma is the sum total of your actions, not some universal law that punishes the wicked and rewards the virtuous.
Virtue is its own reward (punishment) and wickedness is its own punishment (reward).
I feel like ODD being an official disorder in the DSM should be the thing that makes everyone go “hm” about how psychology is practiced
[looking a child directly in the eye] i diagnose you with Shitty Bitch Syndrome. this makes it legal to do medieval german tortures to you by the way
cmon man
Hi I have an undergrad psych degree! I also have ADHD! In my motherfucking TEXTBOOK, the authors said, “Research describes ADHD as a neurodevelopmental disorder in the same vein as Autism. We are putting the (miniscule) section on ADHD in the same chapter as ODD, though, because we believe really these disorders both boil down to ✨️ people not doing what we tell them to because they are lazy✨️”
So my actual TEXTBOOK admitted that it was biased and teaching these disorders based on opinion and not up to date research. And, as described above, the section on ODD was basically just, “these are bad kids. We will not look into why or how or what comorbidities exist and we will also not be exploring the possibility of ODD really being a manifestation of trauma/undiagnosed adhd/autism/pathological demand avoidance/persistent drive for autonomy. We will however be mostly focusing on how annoying these kids are to their parents and teachers ✨️”
It’s fucking crazy. “Yeah we know lots of people with autism struggle to follow demands. They may either ignore/not register demands or have meltdowns when demands are placed. They may engage in physical aggression, verbal aggression, and property desctruction when directed to complete tasks or be exposed to uncomfortable sensory input. They may need to know the why behind demands and consequently argue with authority figures. They may be easily upset by sensory input or social interactions and have emotional outbursts when pushed beyond their limits. Some children with autism seek attention and may engage in maladaptive behaviors to elicit the attention of peers and caregivers if positive attention is not given freely/if they are ignored when behaving appropriately. All of these are symptoms of their underlying neurological differences and should be met with compassion and understanding. They are not bad children. Their brains process information differently and therefore they have executive functioning, sensory processing, and emotional regulation challenges that cause these behaviors.
Those kids over there? Yeah they have all the same symptoms but they are just Morally Wrong and Bad Children. They have Oppositional Defiance Disorder. How can I tell? Well that one hand flaps and that one doesn’t.”
How would you even measure that?
Things adults wrongly identify as arguing:
Asking for clarification
Asking any kind of question
defending yourself
answering a question teh adult has just asked you
breathing
Existing

Race and the Mental Representation of Individuals Diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder: Implications for Diagnosis
Results: Classification images (CIs) showed that the children selected as having ODD appeared more prototypically Black in facial appearance than children not chosen as having ODD. No differences emerged in the gendered appearance of the two group-level CIs. Judged rates of ODD were higher for the children who appeared to be Black. However, diagnostic judgments of clinical trainees and practitioners were unaffected by appearance factors, suggesting that formal clinical training might attenuate the influence of stereotypes on judgment. Discussion: These results indicate that an overlap in Black stereotypes and diagnostic criteria for ODD might contribute to elevated diagnosis of ODD in African American children.
Overwhelmingly Black diagnosis.
Pathologizes problems with authority to dismiss them as irrational.
hmmmm...
This Venn diagram comes across my dash very frequently and while I agree with the sentiment it just... it pisses me off so much. So many of these are nonsensical. What do you mean Lord of the Flies is a cross between The Handmaid's Tale, Brave New World, and 1984? That makes no sense whatsoever. The society in Gattaca is obsessed with knowledge and educational attainment, it is the opposite of Fahrenheit 451. Did whoever make this even read/watch any of these. I am this close to reading everything in the chart that I haven't yet (Animal Farm, Logan's Run, and A Clockwork Orange) just so I can be pissed off even more.
@mckitterick I did a thing

when they want to rape or kill someone: 15 years old isn't a child, that's a grown adult
when they want to medically abuse someone: 25 year olds are basically children. their brains aren't developed, and they can't be trusted to make decisions about their bodies
The note inside a bullet.
B-17 bomber is riddled with German anti-aircraft fire but miraculously survives. Later they discover the explosive shells were all inert; sabotaged by Nazi slaves working in armament factories.
Inside one empty shell is a written note: it's all we can do for you now.
The most important part of all this is that these small acts of bravery and noncompliance cannot be known as long as the enemy still stands, and might never be known. Just because it doesn’t seem like anyone is doing anything doesn’t mean it’s true. The best malicious compliance or subtle sabotage is the one that’s never detected, but makes ravages nonetheless.

"there comes a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part. You can't even passively take part. And you've got to throw your bodies upon the wheels and upon the gears. Upon the levers. Upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop!"

I really like how the scientology speedrunning trend is developing, in this clip we see that the participants are
Not deterred by the closed door
Working as a group
Protecting their identities
Inflicting material costs to the institution via property destruction
Getting away at the end
These ideas were not all here from the beginning. They are genuinely gaining experience that can be applied elsewhere
this is so funny. it even has a wikipedia page. who'd have thought that nearly 20 years on, project chanology and urbex/infiltration would combine as a speedrun meme?
anyway apropos of nothing, let me mention Deviant Ollam's many videos and hacker conference talks about penetration testing. a whole lot of physical security systems are completely trivial to bypass, though social engineering is harder when you're a group of bloc'd up kids trying to make a speedrun video
I'm not okay. Took a mental health day to do my part and make some art about it. No matter the opposition, we won't be erased. A world without trans people has never existed, and it never will! 🏳️⚧️

“Holy shit two cakes,” I mutter to myself as I do fucking anything these days, this post was a godsend
I know it’s not July yet, but guys, happy 10 years of “two cakes”. This post on god has been a godsend not only as a writer myself but as a friend of artists and writers who I love to encourage. This was legitimately a game-changer.
OP thank you so much for this.
(getting a taste of my own medicine) actually this is okay. Is this what you guys have bene whining about? Jesus christ

Rest = Lying Down, Eyes Closed Because other parts of the program from England made sense, I decided to try resting every afternoon. After some experimentation, I determined that the most restorative rest resulted from lying down in a quiet place with my eyes closed. I was surprised at the results from taking a 15-minute rest in mid-afternoon. Even that short break seemed to help, reducing my symptoms, increasing my stamina and making my life more stable. After a while I added a similar rest in late morning. Over time, I came to believe that my scheduled rest was the most important strategy I used in my recovery. Resting everyday according to a fixed schedule, not just when I felt sick or tired, was part of a shift from living in response to symptoms to living a planned life. The experience showed me that rest could be used for more than recovering from doing too much; it could be employed as a preventive measure as well. In the terms suggested by someone in our self-help program, I learned the difference between recuperative rest and pre-emptive rest. Surprisingly, taking pre-emptive rests greatly reduced the time I spent in recuperative rest, because I was experiencing much less Post-Exertional Malaise. The result was that my total rest time was reduced.
sometimes like an idiot i assume everyone has read bruce campbell on resting/pacing to handle post-exertional malaise affiliated with chronic fatigue. that is obviously not true! anyway here's the hot guide, i linked straight to the "schedule in mandatory complete 15 min rest as part of your day and hopefully you will get to do less surprise many hours of rest to recover" section but the whole thing is laid out pretty clearly
