i think this is something @demonprincex has written about? there's also an important distinction between what i believe the structures and systems of our society should do (ie no death penalty) and what i as an individual person want. the example i remember for dr price's writing was when a trans youth was killed by her classmates. me as a trans person feeling rage and hurt and personally wishing death upon those students is not structurally the same and me wanting to implement the death penalty on those students.

i've noticed a lot of leftists struggle with the distinction between individual action and structural systems. people accused me of "replicating the punitive systems we're seeking to dismantle" because i didn't want an ex to have access to my apartment...

it also goes with the conversation that if we want to be abolitionists we can't be conflict avoidant. rather than relying on calling law enforcement and building systems and governments that punish and police, i need to be able to assert my own boundaries and maybe punch a bitch sometimes. those actions are not the same scale.

Ok like. Imagine life without ads. You wake up, check your messages across a variety of apps, no ads. You get up and put on the tv while you prep your breakfast, no ads. Maybe you drive somewhere and switch on the radio, no ads. Maybe you drive a long distance, yet somehow, not a single billboard on your path. You pick up a newspaper or magazine to pass the time, no advertisements only articles. You turn on your game console, the home screen is just about your games, no ads to buy more. You open a streaming app, you don't pay extra for no ads, there's just no ads ever.

Think about how much of your time is spent looking at ads. "Download ublock" yeah I know, I have. But that doesn't change that the world is covered with endless advertising. Imagine never seeing that again. How much better our lives would be.

The expectation that you will refer to a trans person by their preferred pronouns and name is not them ‘forcing you to accept them’ it is basic respect. You don’t have to like trans people, you don’t have to ‘believe’ our identities or whatever. You do have an obligation to treat us like people, though. If you had a 40 something cis male coworker named Bill and you repeatedly, pointedly and aggressively called him ‘Shirley’ and exclusively used she/her pronouns to refer to him, that would be a major HR problem. It is not persecution to have to show basic human decency.

Love the message but these posts are always about how trans women are treated and not trans men or non-binary people, we are also deeply affected by this! Treating people with respect is common human decency!

I am quite literally a trans man and this post was inspired by a trans man speaking about his experience being forcefully and purposefully misgendered by a transphobic coworker in an office environment. I’m not sure how you could read this post and think “What about trans men? This post excludes trans men and nonbinary people.”
