I was thinking about the whole Ukyo-gets-stabbed part of the battle over the miracle cave, and even Hyoga's spear didn't hit anything vital, with the amount of blood Ukyo lost, it has to be deep or hit an artery or something. And in a Stone World with zero doctors (Senku doesn't count, there are certain things that require experience and can't be left up to trial and error, and there's a reason he couldn't fix Tsukasa's lung), the likelihood of any damage being perfectly fixed before they find the medusa is pretty low. Add in the fact that there are certain things even modern medicine can't fix and it wouldn't be too surprising if Ukyo ended up affected by the stab wound until Treasure Island. I know I ended up with chronic pain from a far less serious wound (though the pain is really minor), so it wouldn't be surprising if he did, as well. I don't know enough about medicine to say for sure how else it would affect him, but it can be assumed that other things would probably affect him, as well. But this is Ukyo. Ukyo who was just in the Kingdom of Might, where he had to hide any weakness. Ukyo, who hates being a burden on others. Ukyo, who doesn't appear to have any real connections with people prior to becoming one of the Five Wise Generals. There's no way he's going to mention anything to anyone, even if Senku could make pain killers or something similar. He's already pretty easy to miss. It'd be pretty easy to pretend not to be strong enough to carry something considering his lack of bulk, or slip away every once in a while when it gets too bad, pretending to be scouting or gathering or something similar. Gen will probably notice, particularly considering how they end up pretty close, but Gen could also be trusted to prod Ukyo before going to Senku, and will respect Ukyo's wishes if he asks him to keep his mouth shut. Ultimately, it probably wouldn't really be noticed until the Perseus has set sail and Ukyo's surrounded by people 24/7 and is the main sonar operator, making it so he can't quietly slip away (easily). Additionally, considering Ukyo's work ethic and lack of self confidence, it wouldn't be surprising if he felt pretty intense guilt any time he couldn't help out, too, adding another layer to this. But yeah, just thoughts.

a headcanon is a fact that you have personally made up as an elaboration of canon. it is your invention. e.g. i think morgana and gwen had a teenage lesbian situationship before the events of canon. or, i think modern morgana would love evanesence.

an interpretation is how one reads the existing text. it is not an invented fact nor is it a headcanon, it is a reading. e.g. i think merlin tries to poison morgana out of misplaced self-hatred. or, i think that one line was delivered with suppressed malice and shows a nuanced relationship.

fanon is the general fandom’s accepted headcanons and interpretations that elaborate or recontextualize canon. e.g. merlin is a badass waif and morgana is a bitch.

these are all different words with different meanings.

Also, for an interpretation to be valid it needs to be based on the text. It cannot just be a vibe. One can disagree on readings of the text, but if someone comes with quotes and/or historical context and you just have vibes, then sorry, your interpretation is inferior and may in fact just be a headcanon.

Tiger found caged in abandoned home gets second chance at wildlife sanctuary: ‘He seems to be so happy’

The estimated 350-pound tiger was transported to the facility, an affiliate of the Humane Society of the United States, on Wednesday afternoon, and is settling in well, Almrud said. There, he will have the chance to roam in enclosures of up to three acres.

Almrud, who estimates him to be about 2 years old, described the moment he first walked onto the grass at the sanctuary as remarkable.

“It was just amazing to see him walk out on grass and to see him explore and have that freedom of movement,” she said. “It was just such a reward and fulfilling to us.”

Now, he spends his days rolling around the grass in glee, Almrud said.

“He comes right up to the fence every time a staff member is present,” she said. “He seems very amenable to our presence.”

The tiger is eating well – a combination of chicken, humanely raised non-processed beef and whole prey complete with organs and bones. It appears that he was being fed chicken, which is what owners of exotic cats often feed them, but chicken alone does not provide the complete nutrition they need to thrive, Almrud said.

In addition, caregivers are tasked with keeping the tiger mentally stimulated by creating “pretend hunting” games and rotating him through different areas so he has access to new smells and environments to explore.

“He seems to happy and content,” Almrud said. “Our staff is just falling in love with him.”

Just an update! Since I got curious and the og post is from 2019.

His name is Loki now! In June he celebrated his 7th birthday at the sanctuary where he lives and thrives. Here’s a few pics of the boy:

i’ve warmed up significantly towards the concept of small talk ever since i learned that its sole purpose is to make friendly noises.

as long as you smile and nod, people are satisfied. it’s just to show that you are nice and there with good intentions. we’re small in a big world and have to rely on other people to be decent to us. so we do our little human dance to each other to say, “i’m not here to hurt you. here’s something we have in common, like the weather or sports or itchy sweaters, so we both know we’re on the same team. we both agree on a basic fact, like that it is rainy or that being itchy is uncomfortable, and this proves we can get along. i’m being light-hearted and non-threatening right now.”

small talk isn’t to get to know a person. it’s just a greeting to affirm you’re buddies in the universe.

i am motivated by wanting the other person to know i am friendly, so i have gotten pretty decent at small talk when i used to hate it.

One thing I really like about Beverly Engel's book It Wasn't Your Fault, which is about PTSD-induced toxic shame, is that quite a bit of it deals with people who haven't broken The Cycle of Abuse (TM) and have gone on to hurt others. That's a really underserved and vulnerable patient population, and statistically, it's also MASSIVE. I don't think I've read a single other self-help type book on PTSD and self-loathing that confronts the possibility that you're exactly as bad as you think you are.

I felt better that it so much as mentioned that children can react to abuse with ungovernable rage. Everybody likes the image of PTSD patients as internalizing everything and becoming doormats, which does happen, and often, but it's not the only narrative. Personally I've always hated my abusers and have always wanted everyone who so much as breathed wrong in my direction from ages 0 to 18 to burn eternally in hell. I *never* thought any of it was my fault and ever since I was a toddler I was willing to make it everybody else's problem, and it's really relieving to read a clinical perspective that acknowledges that abuse victims can act that way too.

It's wild to me that its such a neglected subset of abuse victims. Its really common. When I still lived with my parents and was still subjected to my father every fucking day I would lash out terribly at my mother, to the point when i went to visit them for years afterwards she was afraid I would lash out again. We've worked it out, I'm a much better person when I'm not regularly subjected to mental and emotional abuse, but like, its just so common.

I think it must be, at least partially, because, people hate the imperfect victim. Its easy for so many people to sympathize with someone who never lashed out. Less so for people to sympathize with people who are angry and lash out. Even though its a perfectly sensible reaction to being hurt over and over. I'm sure most people would like to think they would simply never.

I don't think this is the whole reason, but, I think it plays into it.

That if you are hurting because you caused harm, because you were the cause of harm, that you’re not allowed to grieve, because you “earned your sorrow. I had this realization a while back:

Some kids who experienced trauma would react by becoming violent, disruptive, and rageful.

This is an inherently normal and natural response for a creature to have. Attacking and fighting for survival is inherently something most animals sometimes do, it's fundamental and will always happen sometimes

But children that are violent, disruptive, hateful of authority, or angry are labeled as "bad" and are punished for it, and the label of "bad" is not just temporary but lasts a long time, as though there is something fundamentally wrong with the child

So, I thought, a child's value in the world and whether they deserve to be helped is judged in this harsh, punitive way, based on whatever natural survival response happened to pop out of them

And I thought, that is grotesque. It means that a certain fraction of traumatized kids will not be helped, but instead be considered "bad," because of basically a biological thing that their body had to do to survive.

Also it is a good point about perpetrator trauma. People are very caught up in the idea that PTSD means the same thing as being a victim, or that you have to be "innocent" to be traumatized. And many people think that people that are not "innocent" are not really traumatized, they just act like they are to get sympathy.

But in reality people can get PTSD from killing another person or torturing them or harming them in another way. Committing that violent act against another person is very devastating emotionally and mentally.

And sometimes people think that perpetrators don't deserve help for their trauma, as if trauma is a punishment for doing something bad.

Society has to change a lot for us to understand these things and truly be compassionate towards all people.

Strawhat Piercing/Tattoo Headcannons

Tw for self harm mention

Both Sanji and Usopp get the jolly roger tattooed over old self harm scars.

Usopp did his during the time skip with pigments he made from the plants on the island(Heracles'n taught him, and he had a sewing needle in his bag he used). His is on his forearm

Sanji asked Usopp to do his after Wano. It's on his thigh.

Usopp becomes the default tattoo artist of the crew, luckily he bought a tattoo machine when they returned from the Time skip

Nami's stomach still turns at the thought of getting another jolly roger tattooed, but she does have Usopp give her some waves and storm clouds on the arm beneath her pinwheel tree

Nami also has a navel piercing and a cartilage piercing on each ear(the more jewelry she can wear the more emergency cash she can have on her)

Robin never had a piercing before she joined the crew, not wanting something that would make her easier to identify, also she never had anyone she could trust to do it.

Nami convinces her to get her ears pierced since now she's protected with the crew(besides it's a basic piercing most women have, it won't single her out the way Zoro's does to him)

Robin does not get any tattoos though.

Usopp once asks Franky is his stars count as tattoos or branding, and Franky never gives him a straight answer

Brook admits he used to have a tattoo, but refuses to say what or where it was.

It was a matching tramp stamp that him and Yorki got together while drunk

Chopper is disappointed that he can't get a tattoo, so Nami gives him a piercing in his ear. (He considered getting a nose ring, but he's become very proud of his blue nose since joining the crew)

Vivi has a nose piercing. The ring she wears undercover/on the run is very subtle but she has an ornate piece she wears when she's home as Princess.

Zoro does not get anymore piercings but does get the Jolly Roger tattooed on his back, because the crew has pushed him farther than he could have ever gotten alone, and he wants to honor them

Jimbe also gets it tattooed on his back, so that it's opposite his sun mark. So that he has both his families around him.

Sanjis tongue piercing from the live action is canon to me.

Usopp gets his nipples pierced

Luffy gets ASL tattooed on his arm, with the A crossed out, to honor his brothers

One major mistake people make when looking at Snow White is assuming that they were trying to create a Disney Princess role model for little girls to emulate, when actually they were just trying their darndest to create an animated character that audiences would care about.

When we see pure and innocent Snow White being mistreated by her stepmother and later driven into exile, it's supposed to activate parental instincts that make us want to protect her. It shouldn't matter if she doesn't do anything to save herself, because she shouldn't have to. We're supposed to feel the injustice of it, feel sad and angry that she's treated this way, fear that she's going to come to harm. We're not supposed to want to be her, we're supposed to love her, and want to see her get the love she deserves, so we remain invested for the entire runtime of this 80-minute cartoon that they're afraid audiences won't sit through. That's what mattered to the story while they were making it, so applying Disney Princess expectations is ridiculous.
