Okay i got a twst au idea

So leona we know in the novel he was born with his unique magic and we also know he is talented and super strong you cant tell me there wasent people who want to use that power and him and leona smart too just imagine instead of fearing him and outcasting him instead they make him like a weapon we know from cloudcalling that he is supposd to be the sunset warriors leader and yeah you get the point do you know what would change like savanaclaw would change a lot to be honest

On the whole making him into a weapon i dont see kifaji/neji or falena reacting to this well

I dont know can someone help me expand this this has been in my head?! Give me ideas please

Like in the lion guard scar original name was askari which means soilder and i can see so many implacations of that you know

Just warning im going to add a few headcanons of mine. That being *said*.

Leona wasnt an expected birth. In the Manga we see that Leona is pretty much ignored by everyone in favor of his brother. He doesnt even mention his parents and when he visits his father he speaks and acts like its a duty he *has* to do than any desire. He doesn't even mention his mother. Typical golden child vs black sheep. So Neji basically became his father figure. If we go with him being made into a weapon for his magic, Id probably go with the route that his father had another member of his council take over- maybe even the captain of the lion guard then(unknown who, since there isnt a mention of a brother of his father and so on). Whoever it is is of course ill intentioned. They see him as a weapon- so they mold little Leona into something more, and Leona takes to it. Because he's being seen and praised and made to feel like hes *worth something*. This is something his brother CAN'T take from him. So he trains. His resentment honed into something dangerous.

When the king finds out, he isnt happy. Because this is peace times and having a son who is a living weapon and was made under his nose would look so bad for the kingdom. More so Falena is upset (but like in series, never truly noticed it because he was focused on his own duties and becoming king instead of what his little brother has been through). So maybe they banish the old advisor. Maybe jail him. Neji is beyond distraught but cant say anything ill against the king. He would partially blame himself for not speaking up and insisting he help raise Leona instead of being ordered to focus entirely on Falena. Maybe he could have prevented Leona from becoming...*this*.

Leona is angry, but his rage has been fine tuned and so it simmers. His only companion is gone- and sure Leona is intelligent as hell and probably knew after a few years he was being used, but there was something genuine about it that made him feel seen for once in his life.

When Cheka is born he is both made to and wants to join NRC. To get away.

Ok, I HAVE to talk about these lines. Cuz I legit screamed when I first read them.

Leona’s literally just talking about his experience with Malleus. Think about it.

His first year at NRC, he excels. He’s pretty smart, so the classes are easy, and he’s probably above his peers in magical ability. Plus, as a FRESHMAN, he’s able to not only get on the Spelldrive team for the interdorm tournament, but he leads his whole team to victory. For once in his life he doesn’t have that deal with the expectations of being the “despised second son.” No one is looking down on him or comparing him to anyone else. He’s away from his family and their ignorant attitudes. He’s on the top of the world.

Then his second year comes around… there’s this new freshman. A really talented one. And he’s a crowned prince. Everyone’s talking about him. Leona probably doesn’t think much of him at first. But then he faces him in the Spelldrive tournament, the place where Leona made a name for himself just one year prior. This was his terf. And Malleus completely crushes him. Embarrasses him. And then he dares to look down on Leona with pity, with the same exact look in his eyes as Falena.

How foolish of me… Leona thinks. How foolish he was to think that he could escape. That he could rid himself of the boulder that has held him down since birth. There will always a be a bigger fish. There will always be someone who was born into a better position than him. No matter how hard he works, Leona can never be king. And no matter how hard he works, he will never beat Malleus. Leona can’t matter anywhere. He will always be insignificant.

This is the stuff I *mean* whenever I talk about Leona to my friends and GOOODDSSSS

Its the Neverending feeling of futility. The knowledge that no matter what he does he will never be anything but the *hated prince*. Especially in the Manga when it shows Leona in his first year from Jack's POV. Hes *Smiling* and its genuine and free of the burdens he felt before. Its the first damn time he ever felt important and worth something!

And then its *crushed* by someone who basically has everything he does not. He has extreme levels of power, he has a family-like group who loves and would die for him- *he has the throne to a kingdom and surely the kingdom there adores him because of it*. Worst of all Malleus didnt have to *try* to get any of it. He just had to be born. All the while Leona clawed and tried and *tried* to be recognized but never was because he was little more than a spare. A second son with naught, and a terrifying ability that scared the servants around him.

And the way Leona speaks is just.. I know you said apathetic but I thinks its defeated. The pain remains. Its always there and festering but hes lived with it for so long he doesnt even notice when it grows. Nothing he does will ever heal the wound. So he pretends he doesnt care and that it doesnt hurt every second of the day. All he has is his pride and if he admits to even himself the pain even that is gone.
