Just checked out a Disco Elysium speedrun to see what they could do to this game, and it turns out thereâs (at least in some versions) a glitch that lets you start with max stats/skills. So they put on their pants, run outside, grab kim, grab money from the company rep, buy a book, and then read (skipping time) for two days until the map opens up and they can solve the entire case. They notably:
Do not examine the corpse, you know, the one whose murder you are solving
Do not put any thought in the thought cabinet
Do not remember their name or face
Do not examine the car
Talk to Kim like twice
Never talk to several characters like Evrart
Do not save Kim during the tribunal
Never visit the church
Donât have the ex-something dream
Donât talk to the [REDACTED] because they didnât do any side content
I feel the need to emphasize, they never put on a goddamn shirt or any shoes
So to summarize, an amnesiac, half-naked freak-of-nature with 0 thoughts in his head wakes up, haggles his way out of debt and into money, re-reads a trashy fantasy novel for two solid days, and then solves a bizarre murder mystery single-handedly, forcing his precinct to reluctantly take him back, all while having never learned a single lesson about himself or the world.

[audio description: the lyrics to âfitter happierâ by radiohead read aloud by the tiktok text-to-speech voice. it is an artificial sounding overly cheerful feminine voice. the music of the original song plays in the background. transcript is as follows:
âfitter, happier, more productive, comfortable, not drinking too much, regular exercise at the gym (3 days a week), getting on better with your associate employee contemporaries, at ease, eating well (no more microwave dinners and saturated fats), a patient, better driver, a safer car (baby smiling in back seat), sleeping well (no bad dreams), no paranoia, careful to all animals (never washing spiders down the plughole), keep in contact with old friends (enjoy a drink now and then), will frequently check credit at (moral) bank (hole in the wall), favours for favours, fond but not in love, charity standing orders, on, sundays ring road supermarket, (no killing moths or putting boiling water on the ants), car wash (also on sundays), no longer afraid of the dark or midday shadows, nothing so ridiculously teenage and desperate, nothing so childish, at a better pace, slower and more calculated, no chance of escape, now self-employed, concerned (but powerless), an empowered and informed member of society (pragmatism not idealism), will not cry in public, less chance of illness, tyres that grip in the wet (shot of baby strapped in back seat), a good memory, still cries at a good film, still kisses with saliva, no longer empty and frantic, like a cat, tied to a stick, that's driven into frozen winter shit (the ability to laugh at weakness), calm, fitter, healthier and more productive, a pig, in a cage, on antibiotics.â

running a d&d campaign is actually so easy you literally just have your friends make up some people and then figure out what are the funniest possible problems for those people to have
i am not joking we need to force teach cooking in schools. like. it is an essential thing for survival. do you know how easy it is to make things if you know even the bare bones shit about how cooking works. we need to teach teenagers how far you can take an onion and some other veggies itââs sad that people grow up not knowing how to prepare literally anything. and iâm not talking about oh this home ed class taught me how to make chicken nuggets at home iâm talking about learning the balancing of sweetness and acidity and saltiness and bitterness and shit like that and techniques and oil temperatures and how meats cook. it needs to be taught because itâs literally not even that difficult and it matters so much
i truly believe that knowing how to cook is a basic survival concept and the fact that so many people canât even make simple dishes is depressing as hell this is the sorta thing that should be taught at a young age. being able to take the ingredients you have around your home and turn them into a meal is like, essential and will make life so much better. you donât need to be a high end chef you just need to understand some things that can be easily taught⊠but then again maybe the education system is playing a roll against this and ultimately they want you to grow up to rely on mcdonalds for dinner. i donât know. please learn how to cook for yourself if youâre able. iâm not asking you to hunt for specific ingredients to make some expensive youtuberâs âbestâ recipe but if you know the basics of cooking you can do a lot with cheap canned ingredients. cooking can be affordable i promise you just need to learn how to make do with what you can get
Can anyone point me towards resources that teach those basics cus I would LOVE to teach my child this stuff but i dont know how to cook
not comprehensive but heres some:
internet shaquilleâs basics but especially:
making rice
making scrambled eggs
making oatmeal
levels of cooking meat
using & storing vegetables with recipes in the description (this one has a bit of Sassiness directed at people who dont like vegetables but the content is solid)
food safety + a recipe to demonstrate
how to learn to cook (just a list of subtopics, no actual tips)
cooking techniques playlist
how to cut x
basics with babish s1 & 2, but particularly:
freezer meals,
weeknight meals,
kitchen tools (although the specific suggestions are pretty expensive even with the lower end scale items the basic categories are solid, and you can evaluate what items you will realistcially need - eg. if you dont need to read temp for steaks etc the temp reader will not be relevant) &
kitchen care (mid-high advanced home cooking)
basic knife skills
picking the right pan for each recipe
j. kenji lopez-altâs tips and tricks playlist
egg recipes
a little more complicated, involved, and longer than any of the rest of these but good breakdown of flavor & how and why to use the basic seasoning/flavor profiles
and then recipe channels representing various cuisines:
j. kenji lopez-alt (various)
marionâs kitchen (southeast & east asian, western/asian fusion)
maangchi (korean)
future neighbor (mostly korean)
the western supermarket playlist of chinese cooking demystified (more recipes available but these are accessible if you dont have âspecialtyâ ingredients)
family recipes playlist by made with lau (chinese)
not another cooking show (various)
cooking with boris (bear with me here i know he does it exaggeratedly humorously but a lot of them are actually solid and beginner cook friendly. mostly slavic/russian)
you suck at cooking (also falls into the intentionally humorous category but most of the recipes are pretty solid anyway)
how to cook that (baking, also does debunking videos of viral cooking hacks - breaks down the reasons the hacks dont work, pretty important to understand those basics imo)
internet shaquille (various)
babish culinary universe (various)
i REFUSE to recommended joshua weissman because he is fucking insufferable but if you want you can try if you can deal with it, the techniques/recipes seem fine for the most part
again definitely not a comprehensive list but it touches on most of the basics

âLetâs just think about what the reality of our minds directly sharing experiences â outside the realm of language â would mean for the process of, for example, erotic seduction. Imagine a seduction scene between two subjects whose brains are wired so that the otherâs train of thought is accessible. If my prospective partner can directly experience my intention, what remains of the intricacies of seduction games? Will the other person not react with something like: âOK, I know you desperately want to f**k me, so why are you asking me all those stupid things about the movies I enjoy and what I would like to have for dinner? Canât you feel that I would never have sex with you?â All would be over in a second.â

I don't use this Tumblr much, but I like to keep people updated on what I'm writing, so:
Here's my latest D&D work, a one-shot adventure for level 5-9, titled Spores of the Undone:
It's a beefy one-shot (~36 pages!) built around a cave setting of creepy-cute mushroom people and their mushroom people problems. Also features unique monsters, magic items, a surfing sidequest, and a gift shop!
You can get it here:

I just published D&D content on DMsGuild for the first time!

It's a set of character archetypes based on the Ravnica setting. You can buy them individually or in a bundle and save 20%.
I'm proud of all of them, and they all have unique mechanics that feel very Ravnica but can be ported over to your favorite setting (and come with advice on doing so).
DMsGuild is also running a promotion called PlayItForward from now until May 17th -- if you buy something from the store, the creator gets 100% of the cost, so this is a great time to support independent RPG writers!
C-3PO makes me laugh because you have to remember he was assembled by a child out of things from a scrap heap. Everything about him makes sense if you bear that in mind. Anakin wanted a droid who could help his mother, but the only AI package he could find was one somebody threw out for being too fussy. The combination of tweaking to give him a worried/caring personality makes him constantly anxious. A protocol droid comes with a fair amount of language packages, but why stop there? Somebody threw out like, three different galactic language dictionaries because they werenât the recent edition. Just load âem all up. all of them, even the packs that contain things like ewok and a thousand variants of different manufacturersâ droid codecs. donât add half the other requirements most legal protocol droids have included at the factory like emergency wipe protocols or shutdown failsafes, or programmed obsolescence. Build that sucker out of non-commercial materials that are already over a hundred years old and still good, tweak it to withstand tatooine of all places.
so now you have this droid that is over thirty years old and it could never be obsolete because it was never manufactured by anybody but a kid on a sand ball somewhere, itâs never running down because it was built to last on tatooine and thereâs nothing programmed in to try and urge you to buy the latest model because there is no latest model. 3P0 is simultaneously totally useless yet hyper functional because he was not made according to any specs except âthe best most toughest things possible to help my mom for a long long time on a hot desert planetâ

in this house we believe:
this place is not a place of honor
no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here
nothing valued is here
what is here is dangerous and repulsive to us
the danger is in a particular location
the danger is still present in your time as it was in ours
This is a Nuclear Waste Warning Message.
Yâall that link is an incredibly interesting read
oh, iâm in love with this! the story behind this message is that weâre storing a lot of radioactive waste in an isolation plant in new mexico and we need to tell future humans: âwe buried something dangerous here, donât disturb it or youâll die. this place should be left alone for 10,000 years. tell future generations as well.â and this raises several problems: how do you explain contemporary time conventions to future humans so they understand what â10,000 yearsâ means, and starting from when? how do you account for the fact that we have no idea what level of technological development future humans will have? will they still understand any of the languages we speak today? and my absolute favorite: how do you combat humansâ natural tendency to immediately go do the thing they were just told not to do?Â
so in 1993 a report was developed by two panels of materials science experts, linguists, anthropologists, architects, geologists and astronomers to create a marking system for the site. they proposed different levels of messages to be placed in the area. and the language part of the report is amazing because theyâre really trying to cover everything. my favorite parts:
should we just design the whole structure to look ominous and scary and not put any messages on it? no, because when has that ever stopped humans from doing anything.
but also some facial expressions are universal and have been basically since weâve been around, so there should be pictographs of faces conveying horror and sickness, as well as âwhat is here is dangerous and repulsive to us.â
we have to explain what we buried here and what would happen if they went looking, because if we donât theyâll absolutely go looking. so the expert panel suggested including both a detailed message where we explain in scientific terms what radioactivity is, and one that says: âthe danger is to the body, and it can kill. the form of the danger is an emanation of energy.â
star maps will be used to convey the passage of time, and weâre including instructions on what they mean and how to use them.
we have to explain that this fancy structure isnât actually hiding anything interesting. i.e. the tomb of some great leader thatâs filled with treasure. hence the part of the message that says: 'this place is not a place of honor. no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here. nothing valued is here.âÂ
but also we shouldnât make it not interesting because thereâs a lot of potential in designing the site so it develops deep cultural significance for future humans:
âa monumental, intellectually stimulating system would enhance performance with higher probability than would a less energetic design based on minimal investment, thought at creativity. an oral tradition tethered to the marker system would emphasize (1) that it was designed to be the worldâs longest lasting human artifact, (2) that it was intended as a gift to guard the health of future generations, and (3) that it is the worldâs largest celestial âclockâ marking the millennia. hyperbole and altruism are strong themes in the worldâs folk tales, songs and myths.â
and finally, part of the message:Â 'we have found it extremely difficult to imagine all the forms of human society and available technology that over the next 10,000 years might give people the desire and ability to intrude into the repository level and thus potentially bring great harm to themselves. nevertheless, we have done the best we can in the design of a marker system that will survive over this period, that will be understood by those who encounter it, and that will be effective in countering their natural curiosity to dig at such a uniquely marked and fascinating place.â
#what really gets me#what really really gets me about the proposed message#is âthis is not a place of honorâ#because itâs meant to be very practical i.e. you wonât find any treasure here so donât dig it up#but to me it really reads like âthis terrible thing is our fault and weâre sorryâ (via @vrabia)
I hope he wins the lawsuit, a police officer was finally doing the right thing and they penalize him for not being a racist monster!
his name is stephen mader and not only did he refuse to shoot, he actively wanted to help the man (ronald ârjâ williams) because he could tell that he was only acting out because of mental illness. rj williams was suicidal and holding an unloaded gun and, while mader didnât shoot him, a fellow officer (ryan kuzma) did and murdered him on the spot. here is the source and hereâs to hoping rj williams gets justice
âSaying the words âJust shoot meâ sent up the red flag that he was just trying to harm himself and no one else ⊠Thatâs what made me make my decision. He needed helpâ I hate this fucking world. The guy was actually trying to do his job by actually desculating the situation the right way (desculating these days apparently just means shoot them) and was fired for âfailing to eliminate a threat.â
HE WON THE LAWSUIT AND GOT $175,000
I read this whole story. It is wild !! The conversations between him and his ex coworkers about what went down that day đ§đ¶
Listen to it all here:
A shocking story of police and lethal force. Just not the one you might expect.
when I say there are no good cops, this is part of the reason why.
âgood copsâ lose their jobs for doing the right thing.
âgood copsâ die mysteriously after whistleblowing.
âgood copsâ are forced to choose between their livelihood and becoming just like the rest.
For all the people who genuinely want to be âgood cops,â please consider:
today i learned that, when Jared Leto sent Margot Robbie a live rat as a part of his rude, bullshit âmethod actingâ for Suicide Squad, she was scared but still refused to abandon or harm the rat.
she overcame her initial fear in order to buy him a proper set up and take care of him until she found the rat a reliable owner, who⊠ended up being Guillermo del Toro for some reason?
so yeah thatâs what happened with the Suicide Squad rat
@mityfresh !
