WarGames premiered on June 3, 1983. The movie was one of the first to feature computer hacking, which wasn't illegal until after this film. In fact, approximately 4 minutes of the film was used in the opening proceedings that lead to the Comprehensive Crime Control Act in 1984. It was also the first time a computer "firewall" was mentioned in a film. David (Matthew Broderick) was supposedly based on real-life hacker David Scott Lewis, Professor Falken (John Wood) on Stephen Hawking, and the WOPR NORAD computer on the BRGR NORAD computer. The NORAD set cost 1 million dollars, becoming the most expensive set at the time (those in the know have said it was more impressive than the real NORAD war room). Ally Sheedy, who played Jennifer, would go on to also star in Short Circuit (1986), which was directed by WarGames director John Badham. Screenwriters Lawrence Lasker and Walter F Parkes spent time with real hackers and would go on to make the hacking film Sneakers (1992). Matthew Broderick would also play a hacker in Farris Bueller's Day Off (1986). The largest hacker convention, Defcon, was named in honor of the film. WarGames was about a teen who thought he was hacking into a beta version of a new video game, but instead had hacked into a war simulator in NORAD, possibly leading the country into a nuclear war. Steddie with witch!Eddie and Fae!Steve but they're both kinda bad at it?

Like after Eddie's mom dies, he finds a locked box under her bed. It's one of the few things he's able to save from his dad's drunken rampages. After he moves in with Wayne he finally gets a chance to open it. Inside he finds what he firsts assume are journals but what turn out to be, not only his mother's Grimoire, but a few from his grandmother and a great great uncle as well.

Lonely, awkward thirteen year old is elated to learn magic might be real and tries the first spell he sees, immediately burning off his eyebrows and what little hair was finally growing back from his buzz cut.

After that uncle Wayne sits him down for a serious conversation. Wayne sets some ground rules (no cursing, no love spells, potions should be made outside, ect). Unfortunately, aside from being a decent herbalist, Wayne has no magic of his own so telling Eddie not to be stupid is about all he can do which is inconvenient when they discover Eddie's magic is as excitable and easily distracted as he is.

Meanwhile, "Steve Harrington" (as close to his real name as human language gets) is the son of two prominent Unseelie families who have decided it's more practical to gain power in the human realm then squabbling with the rest of the court in the feywild.

Luckily (or unluckily), his parents don't really know what to do with a child so they leave him to be raised by nannies and, when he's deemed old enough, himself. So instead of creating the most malicious and cunning creature to ever walk the human realm, they end up with just ...Steve.

He's not all the way good but he's certainly not evil. He's just kinda a guy. Granted he's a guy that can steal your name and gets his best gossip from like trees and the family dog when you forget to give it a piece of your snack. But otherwise he's a comfortable light grey morally which enrages his already concerningly homicidal father.

It's an idiot4idiot meet disaster. Not to mention the Upsidedown is still kicking around.

Found in northern Australia. It is the only Australian bat that preys on large vertebrates – birds, reptiles and other mammals – which they detect using acute sight and hearing, combined with echolocation, while waiting in ambush at a perch. Prey may be taken at or to the ground, where it is enveloped with the wings and killed with bites to the neck. Their sharp teeth and strong jaws are able to subdue animals as large as the bar-shouldered dove.
