so youāre telling me that after what happened to louella/lou lou haymitch had to watch peeta come back from the capitol as a āmutt version of himselfā and question whether the shell of a human with peetaās face was even peeta at all
and he had to do all that SOBER???
He would never say it to Katniss. He couldn't. And even when he finally gets his voice to work he whispers like speaking it will bring it to pass.
"Are we positive this is Peeta?"
Coin turns to look at him, eyes unamaused.
Beetee frowns, "It's clear that there is some psychological damage but-"
"No, no I mean-" he wishes more than anything to down a full bottle of whiskey. Twin braids flash before his eyes but with a body too small and frail for his first sweetheart. "Are we sure he's not a mutt. An actual one. Peeta's face stretched over a random body."
He doesn't talk about his own game. He never talks about it. He tries not to even think about it but this... This is all too familiar.
Coin's words are clipped. Disapproving. "The Capitol is barbaric, but even they can't -"
"No," Beetee interjects. "No I remember. The second Quarter Quell they had us-" An anguish look crosses his face before he shakes it away, glancing at Haymitch. "It's possible. They've done it before."
And with twenty-five years to perfect their technique who's to say how convincing they may be.
Maybe their Peeta is still in the Captiol. Maybe their Peeta is dead already.
"Very well." Coin's voice drips with distaste. This is something she clearly doesn't feel she has time for. "Test Peeta's blood. Make sure it's him."
"And if it's not?" Haymitch makes direct eye contact, something Coin doesn't shy away from.
"Then we'll dispose of him like all of the other Capitol Mutts."
Haymitch leaves the meaning up to interpretation when he says only. "Murderers."
That night without the aid of his sweet nepenthe he dreams of a little girl who cried when given bread, of sweet bee balm and deadly pollen, of a too small body cradled in his arms.
And like he does most every night now, he dreams of the murderers.
Faith is not a form of āknowingā in the sense in which that word is used in science and philosophy. It is, in the Bible, a mode, of listening. The supreme expression of Jewish faith, usually translated as āHear, O Israel, the Lord our God is oneā (Deuteronomy 6:4), really means āListen, O Israelā. Listening is an existential act of encounter, a way of hearing the person beneath the words, the music beneath the noise.

jewish culture is wanting to buy all the pretty judaica but not having enough money š
.
Iām obsessed with Zsuzsa Ujjās work. (sold under shop name Judaica Hungarica on Etsy and Modern Tribe)
Look at these!!!!
no offense, but what was the point of that cool older lady character in Spirited Away
except, you know, to make me question my sexuality at 12 during midnight rewatches as I looked at her weirdly pretty mouth and had Questions
!!!Ā
me, falling in love with every woman I see whose purpose is to eat and be pretty:
#her and Ursula from Kikiās Delivery Service#the archetype is ālesbian who accidentally adopted this childā
I mean, Iām pretty sure Lin is supposed to represent what Chihiroās future might be like if she accepted her role in the bath house and didnāt try to maintain her own identity and values. Sheās not a bad person, but sheās hedonistic to exactly the extent that the bath house culture allows her to be as an employee and has no ambition beyond the system of favors, bribes, and petty intimidation between low-level workers. Sheās traded her individuality and opportunity to better herself for the security of predictable exploitation and she doesnāt seem to regret it.
I donāt think itās a coincidence that Lin is the only other major character who looks human throughout the movie - Iām not certain she started out human, but I suspect she may have, and may have fully traded away her humanity. I do think itās significant that she, unlike Chihiro and Haku, doesnāt reclaim her name at the end of the story.
She doesnāt want her independence or identity back. Her purpose is to eat and look pretty.
Alternate interpretation: I always thought Lin meant to be a comforting presence.
Sheās the first bathhouse worker who is kind to Chihiro, helping her get her clothes and navigate her first work assignment and sneak food. One of the core themes of Spirited AwayĀ is finding your footing in a new and terrifying place, and Lin and Haku are key allies in Chihiroās struggle to gain the skills and self-assurance she needs in order to thrive.
Linās human appearance helps us and Chihiro feel more sympathetic towards her . Her familiarity with the system of favors and bribes makes her appealing as a role model who can demystify Chihiroās new environment for her. Unlike the more inhuman occupants of the bathhouse, Lin looks like someone Chihiro could become in the future, and thatās a good thing! Sheās living proof that the bathhouse is not such a monstrous and scary place. Because Lin treats the bathhouse like home, Chihiro begins to see it as a home, too.
And once Chihiro starts to think of the bathhouse as her territory, sheĀ realizes that she has agency in this place as well. She uses its rules to her own advantage to free Haku and herself.
And that is the point of Chihiroās journey in Spirited Away: itās a metaphor for starting over in a new place and overcoming fear of the unfamiliar. After all, the frame story is Chihiroās family moving to a new city. At the beginning of the movie, Chihiro is despondent, unhappy to be leaving her old friends behind. By the end, after making it through the spirit world, sheās taking a much more active role in helping her parents settle into their new home.
TLDR: Lin is there to be Chihiroās friend.
These theories coexist really well, I think. Lin has accepted her place within this system, and thatās given her the confidence and experience to be a mentor for Chihiro. Because she knows the system, she can make things a little better for Chihiro.
Because Chihiro has a mentor and friend, she learns how to survive and even do well in the Bathhouse. Itās because of Lin that Chihiro is able to not accept her place within this system and instead fight back, and in the end to make things a little better for everyone.
Thereās something there about community, and easing the path for those who come after you. Lin doesnāt regret her choices because they were the best choices she could make, and thatās okay. Itās not a tragedy. She got as far as she could get, and because she did, sheās there to help Chihiro get farther.Ā
And isnāt that what weāre all here for, in the end? To go as far as we can, and then give a hand up to those coming after us? Itās never a tragedy when children can go farther than their mentors ever could. Thatās a triumph.

One of those retellings of Batman as a fairy tale things but instead of a fairy tale itās Talmud
Baruch Atalef of Gat went into the city and saw a traveler die. He took the traveler's son as a student. Kal-el said to him, "why do you not bless him [as a father blesses his son]?" Baruch said: I shall not bless him, for it is written, "you shall revere your mother and father".
At night, Baruch Atalef of Gat would go by the houses of the poor and the elders [who had no children] and leave coins at their door. His student Dror ben Yohanon asked him, "why do you not give in the daylight?" Baruch Atalef replied, "does a mitzvah exist to be seen?"
Another rabbi tells, Baruch Atalef of Gat went into the city and saw a traveler die. He took the traveler's son as a student. Kal-el said to him, "why do you not bless him [as a father blesses his son]?" Baruch said: I shall not bless him, for it is written, "you were strangers in the land of Egypt".
When Baruch Atalef's second student was slain in battle, he sought vengeance. But Kal-el said: is this the justice for a departed soul? And Baruch stayed his anger. Later, Baruch had a vision of his student returning. His student said, āwhy do you not avenge me? I have died, yet my killer still lives.ā Baruch said: does the Torah not teach us āthe bloods of your brother cry outā?
Why was Baruch of Gat called Baruch Atalef? Because he would rise at dawn to study Torah and do good needs under the cover of darkness. Others say, because of his care for the orphans, as the bat shelters its young.
Dror Ben Yohanon asked his teacher, "why do you study in the dark?" Baruch said, "is it not written, 'you shall remember them all the days of your life'?"
Rabbi Baruch said the world stands on three things: upon questions, study of the world, and teaching [of the law]. Kalel said: The world stands upon truth, justice, and the work for the future.
When Bentzion Ben Ilan died, his student Naftali refused to teach. But Dror Ben Yohanon said, ādo you not remember his teachings? You are not free to desist from the work.ā
When Rabbi Baruch Atalef's student Yosef was killed by the Romans, he refused to leave his house of mourning. Decius HaTam asked him how he can continue to wear sackcloth as a man of his stature, Rabbi Baruch replied, "Yaakov our forefather mourned his son Yosef for twenty-two years, do not try to console me".
Not telling your kid they have a learning disability, chronic illness, mental illness etc. so they can āfeel normalā actually does the opposite. They will not feel normal if they do not have the context to understand that their normal will be different from that of their peers.
The amount of times Iāve heard a parent say something like āIām just not going to tell my son he has ADHD, I want him to feel normal.ā HE DOES NOT. HE DOES NOT FEEL NORMAL. HE IS WONDERING WHY HE IS STRUGGLING AND COMING TO THE CONCLUSION HE IS AN IRREDEEMABLE FAILURE.
toddler started playing a game a while ago where he points at dad and says "you're [toddler]. I'm Dada" and then they roleplay being each other. I gotta say. the schadenfreude, the absolute satisfaction, when toddler says "eat your hot dog" and dad says "no! I want a lot!!" (imitating what the toddler does when he refuses to eat unless he is given a GIANT PILE of food, which he will eat approximately 5% of) and toddler says "you can have this" (exactly what we say to him in this situation) and dad says "I WANT A LOT!!" and the toddler tries to think of a way to convince him and says "EAT IT!!" with visible frustration. exquisite. incredible
I've been out and did stuff that is not studying and / or staying home.
Got home to angry, swearing quarreling, because I did not help clean the mess they made.

āTo try to not be more interesting but be more interestedā literally changed my life perspective btw
To do things not for the sake of coming off a certain way or fitting a certain aesthetic or to grab pplās attention more ā¦. But to simply do them bc youāre curious and invested and would do them regardless of whether anyone was perceiving you or not ā¦. That is literally the point
Iām genuinely understating how important this lesson has been for me bc we literally live in a world thatās all about aesthetics and branding and how to package urself even if youāre not even an influencer⦠dating tips that advise you to āfocus on yourselfā ātake on more hobbies to have something to talk about and be interestingā like what if you just did those things bc you want to ā¦. for the whimsy ā¦.. bc we have one life ā¦.. and then the rest just naturally follows . What if being interesting does not presuppose the interest. What if that sabotages it actually . What if the only actual way to be interesting and to evoke something in ppl and to capture their interest is by doing things bc you truly love them and for no other purpose
#this! #it's the: #you're so obsessed with how you are perceived that you can't fully enjoy living #let's enjoy living!!
afternoon tea with my new kettle and the mug i found with my grandmothers name on it
actually devastating that you can expose your struggles and health condition in intimate detail for some anonymous stranger to go "not good enough" and decline to award you the pittance that is disability support
