Itās Meerkat Manor but about penguins instead
There is a specific and terrifying difference between ānever wereā monsters and āare not anymoreā monsters
āThe thing that was not a deerā implies a creature which mimics a deer but imperfectly and the details which are wrong are what makes it terrifying
āThe thing that was not a deer anymoreā on the other hand implies a thing that USED to be a deer before it was somehow mutated, possessed, parasitically controlled or reanimated improperly and what makes THAT terrifying is the details that are still right and recognizable poking out of all the wrong and horrible malformations.
hey I totally fucked up and forgot the 3rd type, which is āIs Not Anymore And Maybe Never Wasā monsters āThe thing which was no longer a deer and maybe never wasā implies a creature that, at first glance, completely appears to be a deer, but over time degrades very slowly until you realize (probably too late) that it is not a deer anymore, and had you seen it in this state first, you wouldnāt have recognized it as a deer at all, and thereās a decent chance that it was never actually a deer to begin with but only a very good mimic, and what makes this one scary is the slow change from everything being right to everything being wrong, happening slowly enough that you donāt even notice it until its too late, as well as the fact that something now so clearly not a deer could have fooled you to begin with.
And the fourth type, which is, āI dunno, but it sure aināt a deer.ā Which implies complete confusion about what the creature could be, to the point that even a person as comfortable in this world as someone who would use the word aināt unironically is uncertain, which should horrify you to the deepest depths of your soul.

Succulents that look like something out of this world
Clear Succulent Plant
Rose Succulents
Bunny Succulents
Some of the fantastically strange plants likeĀ the mermaid tailĀ orĀ the opal-like clear succulentsĀ look like theyāre from another planet and something that aliens keep on their alien desks in their alien offices.
If you want to get one of these peculiar succulents for yourself or for your loved ones as a gift, the mermaid one is called a crested Senecio Vitalis while the clear one is the Haworthia Cooperi plant.
Haworthia succulents are popular because of their āleaf windowsā which let in a lot of light for the plant. The āwindowsā also minimize water loss from evaporation because the rest of the plant is buried underground. Haworthia plants also have accordion-like roots that pull them deeper into the ground so that they can thrive.

Trachyandra
Albuca
Haworthia plants are easy to take care ofĀ and are great succulents for beginners: just pop them on the windowsill and theyāll be happy. Especially if you plop it into some gritty soil.
In general,Ā succulents need plenty of lightĀ and you need to rotate them occasionally so all parts of it can enjoy the sun and to help it grow straight.
Overwatering is a big no-no, so check the soil regularly: if itās dry, get your watering can ready. Also, keep in mind that succulents need more water during Spring and Summer and barely need any in Fall and Winter when theyāre āresting.ā Finally, wipe the dust off your succulents to help them grow and become your picture-perfect plant-pals.

Sorry to say, but they do the exact same thing for humans too.
Itās amazing how people in the notes and comments are absolutely FURIOUS at me for the included Frozen comparison. Special shout out to everyone trying to prove that real people look like this.
Not to mention that when people edit these characters to have better facial proportions, the originals look like bizarre fish people.
How humans draw themselves is always fascinating to me
op why are you speaking like you arenāt human iām scared
Ehā¦perhaps read my blog description.
this post has EVERYTHING
I think I know the reason for why people prefer āunrealisticā animation.
For some reason, humans really donāt like things that look like humans but arenāt quite human. Hence why a lot of people are uncomfortable with movies with animation like Monster House and The Polar Express. It looks too realistic to us and sets us off.
Scientists call this the āUncanny Valleyā effect and its thought to be an evolutionary tactic for survival.
The funny part is. No other animals that we know of experience the uncanny valley effect. Only humans. Which leaves the question: what was out there that mimicked humans so well and was so dangerous to us that we evolved to have this as a tactic for survival?
Oh hell yeah this is what Iām here for
Which leaves the question: what was out there that mimicked humans so well and was so dangerous to us that we evolved to have this as a tactic for survival?Ā
@hitodama89
Okay, Iāve seen this thread a dozen times before, but not with this addendum.
i made the original post in the throes of unmedicated depression because thatās where my sense of humor was at the time. i donāt check my activity page. seeing it barge onto my dash months later with +250k notes and this exchange attached to it like a bunch of rattling tin cans attached to the tail of a rabid dog running loose is fucking WILD
So sometime after whenever humans developed the uncanny valley effect, did we just hunt this mysterious predator to extinction? Or did it die out on itās own? Or did it evolve as well into something⦠else? Could it still be living on Earth today?
Idk why dont we ask the āpeople eating cryptidā who claims to be from a species thatās easy to hide and apparently passes as human whoās like, 3 reblogs above this?
Hey fun fact;
Back when Homo sapiens werenāt the end-all of hominids, we also had some other two legged āhumanishā cousins like the Neanderthals, Denisovians, and more!
There were nine different species of āhumansā
By 10,000 years ago, they were all gone. The disappearance of these other species resembles a mass extinction. But thereās no obvious environmental catastrophe ā volcanic eruptions, climate change, asteroid impact ā driving it.
Instead, the extinctionsā timing suggests they were caused by the spread of a new species, evolving 260,000-350,000 years ago in Southern Africa: Homo sapiens.
Neanderthal skeletons show patterns of trauma consistent with warfare.
Like language or tool use, a capacity for and tendency to engage in genocide is arguably an intrinsic, instinctive part of human nature.
Optimists have painted early hunter-gatherers as peaceful, noble savages, and have argued that our culture, not our nature, creates violence. But field studies, historical accounts, and archaeology all show that war in primitive cultures was intense, pervasive and lethal.
Basically: the reason we as Homo Sapians find other human-ish figures unsettling and have an instinctual fear/aggression response called āThe Uncanny Valleyā is because we literally TOOK OVER THE WORLD by hunting down and killing every other hominid on the planet.
Dunno if the ā9 species of hominid genocideā was a result of uncanny valley or the cause of it, but itās a pretty sure bet to guess theyāre linked.
Read more about it here :)

Dinotopia - Between the ages of 6 and, er, 27+, Iām pretty sure Iāve logged about 5,000,000,000,000 hours or so of daydreaming to this particular worldās credit.
In case you were wondering what I see out there in the middle distance.
Dinotopia is such a peaceful place, my fave utopia. I wanna live there.
Fun fact! they actually made a 4 hour long mini-series about Dinotopia. I think they made another TV show but I thought the mini series was better.
It's a living
26-year-old Jamarion Robinsonās grandmother Beverly Nixon said her grandson was bipolar and schizophrenic. Still got shot 76 (!!!) times. Would a white person get the same treatment?
The witness said he saw more than a dozen patrol cars at the complex where US Marshals killed Robinson on August 5, 2016. Why were there no behavioral specialist? Surely one of them would know how to interact with a bipolar schizophrenic better than the police.
Iām absolutely disgusted.
Hereās Jamarionās motherās GoFundMe in case anyone is willing to help.

Stay woke
Is this true?
Not only is it true, it gets worse. The Susan G Komen For The Cure Foundation has actually successfully sued ācompetingā charities, becauseĀ (paraphrasing)Ā their āmessage or branding was infringing.ā
You read that correctly: they took money that people had donated to cure cancer, and hired attorneys with it, to sue ANOTHER group of people trying to find a cure for cancer, who, in turn, had to us their donated money to hire their own legal counsel to defend themselves.
Yeah signal boost because not enough people know about this and seriously FUCK SUSAN G. KOMEN THEY ARE THE ACTUAL WORST

Itās that time of year again, please remember Komen is the actual worst
Komen For The Cure is pretty much awful.
My mother died in 1996 from breast cancer. Most cancer charities are scams, in that people throw fancy parties and get rich off them and very little money goes into research or support for patients. Here are some vetted cancer charities that get good scores on Charity Navigator and pay medical expenses or fund research:
Breast Cancer Research Foundation
Cancer Research Institute
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
63 four star rated cancer charities on charity navigator
